Chapter 235: Looks Like You Got in a Fight
Chapter 235: Chapter 235: Looks Like You Got in a Fight
Bai Wanwan slowly opened her eyes, her trembling lashes casting faint shadows on her pale face.
"Mm, I’m okay."
She gave Yan Lie a weak smile, a flicker like a candle flame in the morning light.
Zhu Xiu immediately took her cold hand. The rough pads of his fingers gently rubbed the inside of her wrist, his red-tinged eyes filled with worry.
"Does anywhere else hurt?"
She *was* in pain.
Bai Wanwan felt as if her body had been crushed and then pieced back together. Every bone in her body ached dully.
During the time she was unconscious, it was as if she had battled an army of thousands in her dreams. Even her breathing felt heavy with exhaustion.
"I’m just a little tired."
She managed a smile, but her voice was as light as a feather. "I’ll be fine after a little rest."
With that, she closed her eyes.
In the depths of her consciousness, she called out to her system. ’Hua Sheng, check if the toxins in my body have been completely cleared.’
"DING—Scan complete."
The system’s mechanical voice had a rare, cheerful lilt to it. "The host can rest assured. All toxins have been eliminated."
"Then why..." She let out a sigh of relief. "...do I feel like I’ve been trampled by a herd of beasts?"
"This is a normal reaction."
The system explained, "When the Ghost Orchid Grass was clearing the toxins, it activated your entire immune system to fight them. To put it another way, it’s as if every one of your cells just went through a life-or-death battle."
Bai Wanwan let out a breath. "Then how long will it take to recover?"
"Three to four days of rest should be enough for a full recovery."
When she opened her eyes again, she was met with several pairs of intense gazes fixed on her.
She curved her lips into a smile, giving her Beast Husbands gathered around her a reassuring look. "Don’t worry, I’m alright now. Just a little weak."
As she spoke, she tried to push herself up with her elbows, only to fall back the next second...
A pair of powerful arms slipped under her waist, lifting her effortlessly and settling her securely against his chest.
She decided to just lean lazily into his embrace.
"What’s the situation outside? Can we go back now?"
Yan Lie eagerly leaned closer, a wide grin on his bright, cheerful face that was as warm and brilliant as the sun. "Jin Yi just scouted ahead. The beast tide has retreated! We can go back anytime."
"That’s great! So we’re leaving now?"
Bai Wanwan didn’t want to be trapped in these dark caves any longer. She just wanted to return to her own little den, cuddle her cubs, and have a nice, long sleep.
Jin Yi looked at her delicate, helpless state. "If you’re not feeling well, we can wait here for a few days and leave when you’re better."
"No need," Bai Wanwan said, shaking her head. "We’re going back now."
’The beast tide has retreated. If we don’t go now and wait a few more days, what if it comes back?’
’She didn’t know how many lives she had to spare.’
Xin Feng’s warm palm rested on her forehead. "Don’t push yourself. We can wait a little longer before we go back."
"Don’t be so nervous. I’m just exhausted."
Bai Wanwan insisted, "The beast tide has receded. This is the best time to go back. With you all protecting me, I won’t have to walk myself. What if we delay and the beast tide returns?"
They all understood that this was the perfect time to return; they were just concerned about her physical condition.
The males hesitated for a moment, exchanged glances, and finally reached a consensus.
’Wanwan can’t eat or sleep well out here. It’s not a good place for her to recuperate.’
’Only by returning to the tribe, free from fear and the need to hide, can she truly rest.’
Once decided, they acted. The males quickly agreed on a plan: Xin Feng would carry Bai Wanwan, Zhu Xiu would clear the path ahead, and Jin Yi and Yan Lie would guard the flanks.
Emerging from the dark underground cave, Bai Wanwan’s eyes hadn’t yet adjusted to the bright light outside.
She squinted for a long while before slowly opening them.
The males moved quickly. There were hardly any wild beasts around.
In the distance, mountains rose and fell, and birds chirped. It was as if the preceding beast tide had been nothing but a nightmare.
They encountered two small groups of beasts on their way to the foot of the mountain, but Zhu Xiu handled them all by himself.
The group passed through a dense jungle and finally arrived on a wide plain.
The beasts roaming the plain sensed their presence and swarmed toward them like hungry wolves that had caught the scent of blood.
A few dozen scattered beasts gathered and launched an attack on Zhu Xiu.
In the past, Bai Wanwan would have been sweating with nervousness.
But now, having witnessed a true beast tide, her expression didn’t even flicker as she watched her three males fight a few dozen beasts.
Zhu Xiu’s Snake Tail swept out like a steel whip, Yan Lie’s sharp claws sent blood flying, and Jin Yi’s lion roar made the beasts hesitate and falter...
In just three minutes, the beasts were reduced to a field of corpses.
"Keep moving."
The King Cobra turned his massive head. He should have looked like a terrifying Fierce Beast, but in Bai Wanwan’s eyes, he wasn’t the least bit scary.
Just as the walls of the Golden Lion Tribe came into distant view, the sky suddenly darkened.
Bai Wanwan looked up, her pupils constricting.
A flock of Eagle Beasts that blotted out the sun descended like a dark cloud, their sharp cries tearing through the sky.
"Quick, charge through!" Zhu Xiu roared, his massive beast form rapidly clearing a path ahead.
Seeing such a huge flock of Eagle Beasts, the hearts of the males sank.
Eagle Beasts were the nightmare of all Land Beastmen. Even for a powerful male beast like Zhu Xiu, they were still his natural enemy.
If they stopped and were surrounded by the Eagle Beasts, it would be nearly impossible for them to escape unscathed.
The males protected Bai Wanwan, streaking across the plain like bolts of lightning.
Whenever an Eagle Beast swooped down to attack, they would abruptly change direction.
Their frantic, evasive maneuvers caused many of the Eagle Beasts’ attacks to miss.
The Eagle Beasts flapped their wings in irritation, letting out piercing cries.
Circling, circling, they suddenly dove again.
"Not good. It seems they’re all after Wanwan," Zhu Xiu said, having keenly perceived their target. He immediately warned the other males, "Protect Wanwan!"
As soon as he finished speaking, countless Eagle Beasts rained down from the sky.
Yan Lie roared and leaped into the air, sinking his teeth into an Eagle Beast’s wing.
Jin Yi opened his beastly jaws and snapped the neck of another Eagle Beast.
Bai Wanwan watched the dense, sky-blotting swarm of Eagle Beasts attacking them, took a deep breath, and tightened her grip on Xin Feng’s fur.
Xin Feng sensed her nervousness and comforted her, "Wanwan, it’s okay. If you’re scared, just duck down and hold onto me tightly."
"Okay."
Bai Wanwan hugged the Silver Wolf tightly and turned her head to look toward the Golden Lion Tribe.
The walls were so close, yet they seemed as distant as the edge of the sky.
Bai Wanwan gritted her teeth. ’We have to get through this and reach the tribe safely.’
As she turned her gaze back, she saw three Eagle Beasts diving straight for Jin Yi.
"Jin Yi, watch out above you!"
But her warning came a step too late.
SPLAT...
A spray of blood blossomed in the air and spattered across Bai Wanwan’s face.
