Delicate Villainess, Desperate Males – A Beast World Reverse Harem
Chapter 219: This is Bad
Chapter 219: Chapter 219: This is Bad
Yan Lie was the first to notice his movement, his gaze shifting to the side.
"You’re awake?"
Jin Yi quickly got up. "Yeah, I’m going to take a look outside."
In that instant, a bone-chilling cold had shot up his spine.
That feeling had saved his life several times during moments of crisis.
He strode quickly to the cave entrance, his golden pupils constricting in the darkness.
There were black dots in the sky, which was already beginning to lighten. Wanting to see them more clearly, he unconsciously took a few more steps forward, right to the edge of the cliff.
Yan Lie looked down to check on the still soundly asleep Bai Wanwan. When he looked up, he found Jin Yi standing at the cliff’s edge and asked alertly, "What is it?"
"I don’t know..." Jin Yi’s voice was low, his eyes fixed on the black dots.
Then, his pupils shrank. "It’s Eagle Beasts!"
The words had barely left his mouth when a sharp eagle’s cry tore through the night sky, immediately followed by a second, then a third...
The dense drone of beating wings drew closer, like a dark, oppressive cloud of death approaching the cliff.
"It’s a flock of Eagle Beasts!" Jin Yi whipped his head around, his voice cold and sharp. "They seize caves on cliff faces. We need to get out of here right now!"
Yan Lie also heard the chorus of eagle cries. He swore under his breath and scooped up the soundly sleeping Bai Wanwan.
Bai Wanwan lay limply on his back, her eyelashes fluttering as she slowly opened her eyes.
"Where are we going?"
Bai Wanwan yawned, looking at the sky outside, which was still pitch-black.
She soon heard the sound of beating wings outside and keenly sensed that something was wrong.
"Wanwan, there are Eagle Beasts. We have to leave the cliff immediately."
As Yan Lie spoke, he carried her on his back and scrambled out of the cave. Jin Yi led the way, with Yan Lie following close behind.
Bai Wanwan hugged Yan Lie’s neck and turned her head to look.
The Eagle Beasts were getting closer and closer; there had to be at least a hundred of them.
Her heart couldn’t help but tighten, and her hands gripping the Snow Leopard’s neck squeezed harder.
SCREECH!
Before they could even scramble up the cliff face, a few Eagle Beasts spotted them.
Their sharp beaks glinted coldly in the moonlight. The lead Eagle Beast let out a piercing shriek and suddenly dove!
"Go!"
Jin Yi moved to the side, letting Yan Lie get past with Bai Wanwan first.
Yan Lie didn’t stand on ceremony, not when he was carrying his female on his back.
Jin Yi let out a furious roar and exploded with power, meeting the first attacking Eagle Beast head-on.
With the muffled sound of sharp claws tearing through feathers, fresh blood splattered onto the rock wall.
Once he leaped to the top of the cliff, Yan Lie turned his head and shouted to Jin Yi below, "Hurry up!"
More and more Eagle Beasts were circling in the sky. It would be trouble if they got tied down.
He bared his deadly white fangs and let out a threatening roar at the eager Eagle Beasts in the sky.
After attacking two Eagle Beasts, Jin Yi quickly leaped onto the cliff. "Go!"
Seeing he had made it up safely, Yan Lie continued forward with Bai Wanwan on his back.
Jin Yi voluntarily stayed behind to cover their retreat. Bai Wanwan glanced back at him from time to time, afraid he would fall behind and be swarmed by the Eagle Beasts.
The dense forest was just ahead, but the eagle cries overhead grew more and more frequent.
Another five Eagle Beasts dove toward Jin Yi.
Bai Wanwan grabbed Yan Lie’s fur. "Yan Lie, quick, go help Jin Yi!"
"If I go back, you’ll be on my back. An Eagle Beast could easily snatch you away!"
They were Land Beastmen; they were at a disadvantage against Flying Beasts.
He also really wanted to help Jin Yi. After all, Jin Yi had been protecting Wanwan alongside him this whole time.
"How about this... I’ll hide under your belly."
As Bai Wanwan spoke, she slid down from his back, wrapped her arms around his neck, and clung to him with all her might. "I can’t hold on for long. Quick, go help him."
"Alright!"
Yan Lie pushed off powerfully with all four limbs and charged in Jin Yi’s direction.
Bai Wanwan turned her head just in time to see an Eagle Beast’s talons dig into Yan Lie’s shoulder, sending blood flying.
Jin Yi quickly counter-attacked, biting straight through the Eagle Beast’s belly.
Meanwhile, the other four Eagle Beasts launched their attack on him.
ROAR!
The Snow Leopard charged over, sending one Eagle Beast flying before swiping his claws at two others that were trying to attack Jin Yi.
Jin Yi also turned back and bit the last one.
The fierce assault from the two males scared off this wave of Eagle Beasts.
"Go!" Jin Yi shouted at them.
Yan Lie noticed Bai Wanwan’s grip loosening. Growing anxious, he immediately used a paw to hoist her up. "Wanwan, climb onto my back."
Bai Wanwan used all her strength and, with his help, finally managed to climb from under his belly onto his back.
The forest was right ahead. Bai Wanwan wanted to turn and look at Jin Yi, who was following behind.
"Don’t look back!" Jin Yi’s voice was heavy and laced with the stench of blood. "Get into the forest."
The Eagle Beasts circling in the sky all dove towards their prey on the ground in unison.
Yan Lie broke into a frantic run, and he and Jin Yi plunged into the dense woods, one after the other.
Branches whipped against their bodies, but their hearts finally began to settle.
The dense canopy finally blocked the Eagle Beasts’ dives. They lost their advantage once their prey entered the dense forest...
After running for some distance, Bai Wanwan noticed that the Eagle Beasts were no longer chasing them and let out a long sigh of relief.
After rushing into the forest, it was inevitable that they would encounter other beasts. Jin Yi always rushed ahead to take care of them for Yan Lie first.
The Golden Lion’s fur was almost completely dyed red with blood, especially from two huge wounds on his back.
Bai Wanwan patted Yan Lie’s neck. "Yan Lie, let me down."
Yan Lie stopped at once and set Bai Wanwan down.
Jin Yi watched her walk towards him and reminded her, "We’re not completely safe yet. We need to find a new hiding place before we’re trapped by a large-scale beast tide."
"I know, but your wounds need to be treated right away, or they’ll attract more beasts."
Bai Wanwan had just finished speaking when two wild wolves charged out from the side.
Yan Lie reacted instantly, swatting one away with a paw and biting clean through the neck of the other.
"Do you still have yesterday’s ointment?"
After giving him the ointment yesterday, Bai Wanwan had returned to Yan Lie’s side and later fallen asleep, so she hadn’t asked for it back from Jin Yi.
"I do."
His golden paw stretched out, and a snow-white tube of ointment appeared in his palm.
Bai Wanwan couldn’t help but glance at him a couple more times. She’d always found it magical how Beastmen could transform; if they were wearing clothes, they would somehow remain perfectly intact.
But then again, if beasts could turn into people, there was little point in questioning other oddities.
"I can do it myself."
Jin Yi didn’t hand the ointment to her. Instead, he transformed into his human form, intending to apply it himself.
But just as he was about to twist off the cap, Bai Wanwan reached out and took the ointment from his palm.
"Your wounds are on your shoulder and back. Can you even see them?"
She shot him a sidelong glance, twisted open the tube, and swiftly applied the cool ointment from her fingertips onto his gruesome wounds.
Her movements were clean and efficient, yet she didn’t forget to vigilantly scan her surroundings.
Ten paces away, Yan Lie was in the middle of a fight. As his sharp claws tore out the throat of a fourth beast, warm blood splashed at Bai Wanwan’s feet.
"That’s enough,"
Jin Yi quickly tugged his clothes back into place to cover the wounds, but the warmth from the female’s fingertips seemed to linger on them...
