Chapter 169: Chapter 169: Golden Lion Tribe

Shi Hua watched the stall owner’s hastily departing figure, her brow furrowed slightly. She couldn’t help but feel he had left in too much of a hurry, as if he had a guilty conscience.

She couldn’t help but ask Mu Feng in a low voice, "Was he lying to us? Why didn’t you stop him?"

Mu Feng thought to himself, ’Bai Wanwan’s Beast Husbands haven’t said a thing, so it’s not my place to speak up. If they aren’t doing anything, they must have their reasons.’

Yan Lie turned his head to look at Zhu Xiu and Xin Feng, a flicker of excitement in his eyes. "I don’t think he was lying. Why don’t we give it a try? If we can really catch some, Wanwan will be able to eat Cannibal Fish often in the future!"

In the Beast World, males were never afraid of taking risks for their females.

As long as they could ensure she ate well, dressed well, and lived comfortably, they were willing to bear any risk, no matter how great.

Bai Wanwan sensed something was off from their conversation and couldn’t help but ask, "What’s wrong? Is the method he mentioned dangerous?"

Xin Feng smiled, his tone relaxed. "There might be some risk if we acted alone. But with the four of us together, the risk is much smaller."

Despite what Xin Feng said, Bai Wanwan shook her head. "There’s so much other food. It’s not like I have to eat these Cannibal Fish. Forget it, forget it. Let’s just hurry up and get back on the road."

Seeing her firm attitude, the males said no more. After all, traveling with a female wasn’t a suitable time for taking risks.

After leaving the market, Mu Feng swept Shi Hua into his arms. Yan Lie also wanted to pick up Bai Wanwan, but he was a step too late—she was already lying in Zhu Xiu’s embrace.

After Zhu Xiu left ahead with Bai Wanwan in his arms, Xin Feng patted Yan Lie’s shoulder, signaling for him to follow.

Yan Lie gave Xin Feng a slightly puzzled look and asked in a low voice, "You’re always so passive. Aren’t you afraid Wanwan will stop caring about you?"

Xin Feng smiled and retorted, "Do you think Wanwan is that kind of female?"

Yan Lie froze for a moment, then it dawned on him.

Wanwan was different from other females. She was thoughtful and considerate; if she ever felt she had wronged someone, she would be sure to treat them doubly well to make up for it.

Xin Feng might have seemed passive, but in reality, he never lost out.

Yan Lie pondered this seriously for a moment. ’I can’t compete with Zhu Xiu,’ he thought. ’Maybe I really should learn a thing or two from Xin Feng.’

Bai Wanwan rested in Zhu Xiu’s arms, lulled by the gentle rhythm of his steps, and gradually grew drowsy.

She wrapped her arms around his neck, tilted her head to rest in the crook of his, and murmured softly, "I want to sleep for a bit."

"Mhm, go to sleep." Zhu Xiu’s voice was unusually gentle.

He glanced sideways at the female in his arms. Her fair cheeks looked exceptionally lovely in the sunlight, and her warm breath tickled his neck, involuntarily reminding him of those passionate nights.

His breath hitched, and he held her a little tighter.

They traveled nonstop for three days. The two females were exhausted, relying almost entirely on the males to carry them for the latter half of the journey. Finally, on the fourth day, Bai Wanwan saw the Golden Lion Tribe in the distance.

They stood at the foot of a mountain, looking out at a vast plain. In the center of the plain, a massive complex of buildings stood majestically.

Although the Black Dog Tribe was much larger than the Cat Clan Tribe, it paled in comparison to the Golden Lion Tribe before them.

The Golden Lion Tribe covered an area at least ten times larger than the Black Dog Tribe.

Bai Wanwan patted Xin Feng’s shoulder and said softly, "Xin Feng, you can put me down. I want to walk the rest of the way myself."

For the past few days, the males had taken turns carrying her, and it just so happened to be Xin Feng’s turn.

However, not only did Xin Feng not put her down, he held her even tighter. "This area is full of puddles with Cannibal Fish. We have to be extremely careful."

Only then did Bai Wanwan notice that the plain was dotted with puddles of all sizes. The surface of the water had a greasy green sheen, making it look particularly eerie.

"The Cannibal Fish are here?" she asked, surprised.

Xin Feng nodded. "Yes."

As soon as Bai Wanwan heard this, she immediately stopped insisting on being put down and proactively tightened her grip around Xin Feng’s neck.

"Mu Feng, bring Shi Hua over here and stay close," Xin Feng cautioned.

Zhu Xiu and Yan Lie automatically moved to flank them, vigilantly observing their surroundings.

"Are there really Cannibal Fish in here?" Shi Hua craned her neck curiously to look at a puddle. The water was so murky green that it was impossible to see what was underneath.

Just then, an arm-length Cannibal Fish suddenly leaped from the puddle, its massive mouth full of sharp teeth wide open as it lunged straight for Shi Hua.

Shi Hua screamed in terror, and Bai Wanwan’s heart lurched at the sudden attack.

In the sunlight, the Cannibal Fish’s teeth were as sharp as razor blades. It snapped its jaws shut viciously a few times, looking as if it could tear any flesh and blood creature to shreds.

The sight made Bai Wanwan’s scalp tingle. ’If that thing bit you,’ she thought, ’you’d be a bloody mess in seconds!’

Fortunately, Yan Lie reacted quickly, using his Talent Power to block the Cannibal Fish.

The Cannibal Fish bit at empty air and fell back into the puddle with a heavy SPLASH, sending water flying.

As they continued forward, more Cannibal Fish leaped out of the puddles one after another, trying to attack them. Zhu Xiu and Yan Lie maintained a tight defense, and the fish couldn’t get anywhere near the two females.

Despite this, Bai Wanwan was still terrified.

She glanced back and realized they had only covered less than two hundred meters. Ahead, the Golden Lion Tribe still seemed impossibly far away, as if it were over a thousand meters in the distance.

She looked around and saw many other Beastmen on the plains. Some were coming down from the mountains, others were coming out from the tribe, and all were carefully crossing this dangerous, water-logged area.

They advanced another two hundred meters and saw seven or eight males from the Golden Lion Tribe stopped by the edge of a puddle.

They were carrying prey, trying to lure the Cannibal Fish to bite. However, not only did the fish leap up to attack them, but they could even move around on the ground for a short time.

The males from the Golden Lion Tribe were forced to retreat, and the Cannibal Fish turned to devour the prey instead.

The males tried to use the opportunity to attack, but even more Cannibal Fish shot out from the puddle, forcing them back.

In the blink of an eye, the prey was completely devoured. The school of Cannibal Fish leaped back into the water, leaving the group of males standing by the puddle with faces full of disappointment.

After watching the entire process, Bai Wanwan finally understood just how difficult these Cannibal Fish were to catch.

She couldn’t help but exclaim, "No wonder they say Cannibal Fish meat is precious. You’re practically trading your life for it!"

As Bai Wanwan’s group drew closer, the males who had been fishing noticed them as well.

Bai Wanwan was surprised to see two familiar faces among them: two of Zhuo Ling’s Beast Husbands, whom she had met before in the Black Dog Tribe.

One was named Tu Shan, and the other, she thought, was Lu Da.

The two males were very surprised to see Mu Feng. "Mu Feng, what are you doing at the Golden Lion Tribe?"

"Mhm. I go wherever my wife goes."

Mu Feng didn’t seem to want to talk to them much. After their failed attempt at fishing, Tu Shan and Lu Da didn’t linger either. They soon left the puddle’s edge and headed toward the Golden Lion Tribe...

When he got home, Tu Shan immediately told Zhuo Ling about running into Mu Feng and Bai Wanwan.

Zhuo Ling’s pretty face tightened, and her voice grew taut. "So Bai Wanwan really did come to the Golden Lion Tribe!"
