As she finished speaking, she saw undisguised anger in Zhu Xiu’s eyes—even a hint of killing intent.

A chill ran down her spine. She looked closer, but all she could see was the fury burning in his crimson eyes.

Zhu Xiu stared at the little female before him, his eyes cold and dark.

He raised his hand. His palm brushed against her cheek and slowly slid down.

His palm slid down to her neck...

For a fleeting moment, he truly wanted to swallow her whole.

If he swallowed her, maybe the pain would stop.

But if he swallowed her... Bai Wanwan would be gone from this world. He would never again hear her clear, gentle voice, or see her smile at him with bright, shining eyes.

Bai Wanwan stared into his crimson eyes, a cold sweat breaking out on her back, but she still managed a smile.

Zhu Xiu took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and his hand slowly loosened.

’The source of all this is actually me. If I hadn’t been afflicted by the Dark Curse and had stayed by her side to protect her, no other male would have had the chance to get close to her.’

Yan Lie, who had been worried, crept inside only to see Zhu Xiu with his hand around Bai Wanwan’s neck. He rushed in, trying to snatch Bai Wanwan away from him.

"Let go of Wanwan..."

Sensing Yan Lie’s approach, Zhu Xiu’s heart seethed with rage. He pulled his arm back, sweeping Bai Wanwan into his embrace with one arm while flinging Yan Lie away with the other.

Yan Lie stared directly at him and warned, "You can’t hurt Wanwan."

Bai Wanwan didn’t actually believe Zhu Xiu would hurt her.

He might be a cold-blooded King Cobra, but he had always been incredibly patient with her. Even when he was under the control of the Dark Curse, he had never once harmed her.

"Yan Lie, I’m fine. Don’t worry. You can go outside and wait for me."

Yan Lie frowned, his face full of worry. "But... I’m worried."

Xin Feng walked in from outside and first spoke to Zhu Xiu. "Zhu Xiu, control yourself. Don’t frighten Wanwan."

Then, he turned to Yan Lie. "Zhu Xiu won’t hurt Wanwan. Come outside with me."

Yan Lie pressed his lips together. The look in Zhu Xiu’s eyes as he held Wanwan was cold and fierce, filled with killing intent when he looked at him.

"Let Wanwan talk to him. You should come out."

After speaking, Xin Feng turned and left.

Yan Lie hesitated for a moment before turning and walking out of the stone house, looking back with every few steps.

Seeing Xin Feng standing outside, his handsome, long eyebrows knitted together so tightly they could have crushed a bug.

"He looks really angry. Are you sure he won’t hurt Wanwan?"

"Mm. His temper may be bad, but he would absolutely never hurt Wanwan."

This was something Xin Feng had realized from their time together.

Powerful males all wanted to possess their females exclusively. He had once thought the same way, so he could understand Zhu Xiu’s feelings.

But Wanwan was a Holy Female. If other Beastmen were to learn of her identity in the future, neither he nor Zhu Xiu could protect her on their own against the numerous contenders who would come for her.

Rather than stand by and watch Wanwan be snatched away, it was better to join forces and protect her together.

This was his way of thinking. Zhu Xiu, with his colder personality and habit of acting alone, would find it much harder to accept sharing his female with another male.

Xin Feng said no more. He calmly turned and went to cut strips of meat to feed the cubs.

Yan Lie, however, continued to pace back and forth at the entrance of the stone house.

He didn’t know Zhu Xiu well enough to feel at ease.

On the stone bed, after being pulled into Zhu Xiu’s embrace, Bai Wanwan simply wrapped her arms around his waist. "Don’t be angry anymore, okay?"

Zhu Xiu turned back to gaze at her. "Did you send him out because you were afraid I’d hurt him?"

"You’ve wronged me!"

Bai Wanwan immediately raised her hands, her eyes filled with innocence. "I was obviously afraid you’d get even angrier."

Zhu Xiu’s expression was no longer as furious as it had been initially, but Bai Wanwan couldn’t guess what he was thinking now.

So she kept watching him, trying to figure out his thoughts.

Her beast-soothing words didn’t elicit much of a reaction from Zhu Xiu. He lifted her with one arm and gently laid her back down.

Bai Wanwan seized the opportunity to take his hand. "You just got back, are you tired? Do you want to lie with me for a while?"

"I’m not tired. In a bit, I’m going to have a chat with that panther."

Bai Wanwan immediately wanted to throw back the covers and sit up, but then she noticed Zhu Xiu staring at her face, seemingly studying her expression.

So, she quickly took a shallow breath to relax her expression. "Alright then. We’re all family from now on. You go ahead and meet with him. I’ll just sleep for a bit."

After speaking, she even faked a yawn and turned over to face the inside of the bed.

Zhu Xiu sat on the edge of the bed, staring at her back for a long while.

He had completely reined in his emotions; no trace of them could be seen on the surface.

Bai Wanwan closed her eyes, but her ears were on high alert.

There was no movement beside her for a long time. Growing a little anxious, she pretended to roll over again.

Zhu Xiu was long gone from the edge of the stone bed.

Bai Wanwan threw back the covers and was about to get out of bed when she heard footsteps approaching from outside.

Xin Feng walked in, carrying a cooked meat steak.

He walked to the side of the stone bed and offered it to her. "Are you hungry? Have something to eat."

Bai Wanwan reached out and grabbed his arm. "I can’t eat right now."

Xin Feng pondered for a moment before asking, "Are you worried Zhu Xiu will attack Yan Lie?"

His gentleness and tolerance allowed Bai Wanwan to speak without reservation, so she told him the truth. "Yes. Zhu Xiu is furious, and I don’t know if he’ll do something drastic."

Just now, Zhu Xiu had almost exploded right in front of her, but then somehow managed to suppress it.

But that didn’t mean the matter was over.

Xin Feng placed the food on a stone stool and sat down beside her.

"If Zhu Xiu could accept me, he’ll accept Yan Lie too. He just needs some time to adjust."

Bai Wanwan’s lips twitched. "You’re right. I should trust him."

A smile appeared on Xin Feng’s lips. "Then eat something first. I’ll go outside and keep an eye on things for you. If anything happens, I’ll come back and tell you."

Bai Wanwan nodded repeatedly. "Then you should go quickly..."

At Bai Wanwan’s urging, Xin Feng had no choice but to get up and walk out of the house.

Zhu Xiu and Yan Lie were standing under a tree not far away.

Xin Feng glanced at the two of them, then simply picked up a cub and sat down on the stone stool by the entrance.

Zhu Xiu’s crimson eyes were locked on Yan Lie, as if trying to see through him by skinning him and dissecting his bones.

The pressure emanating from the King Cobra was too intense. Yan Lie’s scalp tingled under his gaze, but even so, he braced himself and said, "I’m the one who’s been pestering Wanwan. If you’re unhappy, you can take it out on me. Don’t take your anger out on her."

Zhu Xiu sneered. "So you’ve decided to be her protector now? She’s my female, too."

"I know. The Eagle Beast attack last time was really dangerous. With me here, I can help you take care of Wanwan."

Afraid Zhu Xiu wouldn’t accept him as a member of the family, Yan Lie’s eyes filled with sincerity as he immediately said, "I can swear to the Beast God, I will protect Wanwan’s safety with my life."

Yan Lie said all this in one breath, but Zhu Xiu still didn’t respond.

He felt a little uneasy, not knowing what Zhu Xiu was planning to do.

’A fight? Fine. Letting him beat me up to vent his anger would be okay too.’

He could actually understand Zhu Xiu’s feelings. If Wanwan were to fall for another male, he wouldn’t find it so easy to accept either.
