Delicate Villainess, Desperate Males – A Beast World Reverse Harem
Chapter 143: Yan Lie is Here
Chapter 143: Chapter 143: Yan Lie is Here
There was no escaping this.
Xin Feng and Mu Feng were swarmed by countless Eagle Beasts, with no way to come to their rescue.
Fear wasn’t going to solve anything. She had to take advantage of the current opening and injure as many as she could.
With resolve in her eyes, she swung her arm without hesitation, viciously stabbing the knife in her hand toward the Eagle Beast’s eye.
The Eagle Beast shrieked in pain and turned its head to peck her.
Bai Wanwan pulled back so quickly she almost fell, immediately dropping into a crouch.
The Eagle Beast flapped its wings and flew away through the hole.
Just as Bai Wanwan was about to breathe a sigh of relief, two more Eagle Beasts immediately started pecking at the roof.
She gritted her teeth, suppressed the fear in her heart, and quickly stood up.
She looked for the best opportunity to attack.
But the Eagle Beasts seemed to be on guard now. They no longer stuck their heads in, instead working together to tear off the roof.
In just a short while, the hole had doubled in size. Before long, an entire Eagle Beast would be able to squeeze through.
Bai Wanwan saw the situation was dire. If she got any closer, the Eagle Beast’s beak could peck a hole right through her head.
She decisively gripped her knife and climbed down from the stone bed.
"Shi Hua, quick! Help me move the cubs’ nest to the room next door."
The next room might not be safe for long either, but for now, every moment they could hide counted.
Shi Hua immediately complied, quickly walking over to help her move the nest.
But just then, the roof gave way, and an Eagle Beast burst right in.
"Sister, look out!"
Shi Hua shoved her aside and was nearly pecked by the Eagle Beast herself.
But Shi Hua was agile and managed to dodge away at the critical moment.
The Eagle Beast didn’t continue attacking the two females. Instead, it stared at the cubs in the nest.
Seeing this, Bai Wanwan hid the knife behind her back and moved slowly toward the nest.
The commotion woke the cubs, who opened their hazy, sleepy eyes.
Seeing their Mother by the nest, they even hopped out, wagging their tails.
The Eagle Beast’s sharp, cruel gaze fell upon the cub that had hopped from the nest, and it beat its wings fiercely.
Bai Wanwan tightened her grip on the knife. Faced with such a scene, was she not afraid?
She was scared to death; her calves were cramping up.
She knew that if she provoked this Eagle Beast, its long, sharp beak would easily pierce her stomach.
The two females held their breath, terrified of making the slightest sound that might enrage the Eagle Beast.
The young cub trotted over to its Mother’s feet and circled them twice, then turned and waddled toward the Eagle Beast.
"Come back!"
The Eagle Beast was already growing excited, its eyes looking down at the cub on the ground.
Bai Wanwan shot forward and snatched up her cub.
But she was a step too late. The Eagle Beast grabbed both her and the cub in its talons and, with a beat of its wings, flew toward the roof...
"Sister!"
Shi Hua braced herself and rushed over, trying to pull her back...
Outside, the two males were already in a killing frenzy, fighting for their lives against the endless horde of Eagle Beasts.
Suddenly hearing the female’s cry, Xin Feng whipped his head around.
’Did something happen to Wanwan?’
His heart felt as if it had been viciously stabbed with a needle. He ignored the attack of a nearby Eagle Beast, taking a peck to his arm that left blood gushing out.
He turned and charged toward the stone house.
The moment he burst in, he saw Wanwan and the cub being dragged through the roof by an Eagle Beast.
"Wanwan!"
The blood-soaked Silver Wolf let out a furious roar, his four paws digging into the ground as he prepared to stop the Eagle Beast.
At that critical moment, a grayish-white leopard shot onto the roof like a bolt of lightning. It opened its jaws and sank its sharp teeth into the Eagle Beast’s throat.
The Eagle Beast let out a single whimper. Its talons loosened, and Bai Wanwan fell into Yan Lie’s arms.
Yan Lie, now in his human form, held her tightly, his heart still trembling.
As he had rushed over, he had seen the huge hole in the roof of Wanwan’s home and an Eagle Beast flying out of it.
He had sprinted with all his might. Thankfully... he had made it in time.
He landed with Bai Wanwan and her cub in his arms, just as Eagle Beasts from other areas began to dive down and attack.
Xin Feng didn’t have time to say a single word to Bai Wanwan. In a rage born from nearly losing her, he leaped into the air, tearing out the throat of one Eagle Beast after another.
After several Eagle Beasts were killed in quick succession, the others beat their wings and flew high, circling nearby and watching but not daring to attack again immediately.
Xin Feng turned, shifted back into his human form, and strode quickly toward Bai Wanwan and Yan Lie.
Yan Lie’s hand was still wrapped around her slender waist. He was reluctant to let go, but he knew that with his status, he had no right to hold her.
He forced himself to release her and stepped to the side.
Xin Feng reached Bai Wanwan in a few strides and pulled her into a tight embrace. "You were frightened."
Bai Wanwan didn’t deny it. She had been terrified.
After holding her for a moment, Xin Feng looked up at Yan Lie. "Thank you for saving Wanwan and my cub."
Yan Lie was watching the two of them in their loving embrace, his eyes filled with envy and longing. Hearing Xin Feng’s voice, he shook his head bitterly. "No need for thanks. I saved Wanwan because I wanted to."
Bai Wanwan also turned her head to look at Xin Feng. In that instant, she had truly thought she was going to croak again.
She didn’t know if fortune would smile upon her and give her another system for a second chance at life.
But in that same instant, a profound reluctance to leave had bloomed in her heart.
This world had so many flaws—it was backward, lacked resources, and was fraught with all kinds of dangers.
But she also had a family here now—those who loved her, and those she loved in return.
Yan Lie had saved her with such fierce power, and she was incredibly grateful. Because of him, she wouldn’t have to croak again; she could continue to live with the ones she loved.
Meeting Bai Wanwan’s gaze, Yan Lie looked away, feeling a bit guilty.
’I pestered her for so long, and I’d already said I was leaving, but here I am again...’
"Since you’re all right... I’ll be going now."
Yan Lie desperately wanted to look at Bai Wanwan again but was afraid she would hate him for it. He forced himself to look away and turned to walk out the door.
"Wait..." Xin Feng called out to stop him.
Yan Lie immediately turned his head. In truth, he hadn’t planned on actually leaving. The Eagle Beasts hadn’t retreated, and he was planning to hide nearby to protect her.
But if he could stay, being by Wanwan’s side was definitely the better option.
Of course, Xin Feng could see what the burning light in Yan Lie’s eyes represented.
If having another male in the family could better ensure Wanwan’s safety, he could overcome his own jealousy and discomfort.
"Zhu Xiu had to leave on urgent business and won’t be back for a while. The Eagle Beasts will likely return. Yan Lie, can you stay and help me protect Wanwan?"
"Yes."
Yan Lie’s heart was filled with joyful surprise, and he answered without a moment’s hesitation.
After answering, he worried his eagerness might have annoyed Wanwan, so he forcefully suppressed his emotions to appear calmer.
Just as they were speaking, the Eagle Beasts circling overhead let out sharp, high-pitched cries, as if summoning their companions for a joint attack.
"Yan Lie, you look after Wanwan. I’ll go out and hold off those Eagle Beasts."
"No, I’ll go with you."
Yan Lie looked at the other male, whom he knew to be Shi Hua’s Beast Husband.
"Please take care of Wanwan. Xin Feng and I will go deal with the Eagle Beasts."
’If the Eagle Beasts outside regroup, the injured Xin Feng and that Green Rank male won’t be able to hold them off,’ he thought.
Only then did he bravely let his gaze fall upon Bai Wanwan. "Don’t worry. I’ll protect Xin Feng with my life. I won’t let anything happen to him."
A warmth spread through Bai Wanwan’s heart, and her gaze was no longer deliberately distant. "You have to protect yourself, too."
