Chapter 107: Chapter 107: Why Didn’t You Say So Earlier?

But then, Zhu Xiu watched as the young woman suddenly spun around, shielding him with her body. She yelled at the Silver Wolf, "Zhu Xiu is in a bad state! You can’t hurt him! If you want to hurt him again, you’ll have to kill me first!"

Bai Wanwan shielded Zhu Xiu, faced Xin Feng, and repeatedly blinked at him.

Xin Feng was already seriously injured. Seeing her actions, he thought she was protecting Zhu Xiu, and it didn’t sit well with him.

But when he saw Wanwan blinking at him, he immediately understood. She was worried he was outmatched and would be injured.

Understanding Wanwan’s intentions, Xin Feng sighed. Seizing the moment while the King Cobra was unresponsive, he leaped backward and vanished into the jungle.

Seeing that Xin Feng understood her, she let out a long sigh of relief.

Only after Xin Feng’s figure had vanished did she turn back to look at Zhu Xiu.

The dense black mist gathered back from all directions, swirling around his body.

"Zhu Xiu?" she asked tentatively.

She couldn’t see his condition clearly, as he was shrouded in the black mist.

After calling out a few times, she heard a loud THUD.

Zhu Xiu’s massive beast form had crashed onto the ground.

"Zhu Xiu! Don’t scare me."

She reached out to touch him, but before her hand made contact, the massive beast form rapidly shrank right before her eyes, transforming back into a human.

Bai Wanwan stared in pleasant surprise at Zhu Xiu, who had returned to his human form.

She hurried to his side and reached out to help him up.

Zhu Xiu coughed, spraying a mouthful of pitch-black blood. The moment it touched the surrounding trees, they withered instantly, losing all signs of life.

Bai Wanwan jumped in fright. ’Is it that toxic?’

She carefully cradled Zhu Xiu, then, holding a tissue between her fingertips, she wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and quickly tossed it aside.

"Zhu Xiu, wake up."

She called his name several times, but Zhu Xiu’s eyes remained tightly shut. He was completely unresponsive.

His face, usually cold and aloof, was now a deathly pale, giving him an air of vulnerability.

"Hua Sheng, Zhu Xiu is injured. Is there any medicine that can heal him?"

"The injury isn’t a major problem. His body can repair it quickly on its own."

’So it’s not a big deal. That gave me a scare.’

Just as she breathed a sigh of relief, Hua Sheng spoke again. "But he just forcibly used too much Talent Power. The Dark Curse has backfired, and his condition is even more serious than before."

Bai Wanwan’s brow furrowed into a tight knot.

She looked down at the unconscious Zhu Xiu in her arms, feeling a pang of guilt.

Just a moment ago, she’d been worried about Xin Feng’s serious injuries. She had pretended to protect Zhu Xiu, but it was really a ploy to give Xin Feng a chance to escape.

’I never thought using his Talent Power would cause such a backlash.’

’Right now, probably any common wild beast could come along and devour both of us.’

She felt torn between them. Knowing Zhu Xiu was suffering from the backlash, Bai Wanwan’s heart ached for him terribly.

Looking at the man with his eyes shut tight, she realized he had never been this vulnerable in front of her before.

She sighed and began to drag him into the cave with all her might.

It was too dangerous to stay outside. If a beast approached, she wouldn’t be able to protect Zhu Xiu.

After a Herculean effort, she finally managed to drag Zhu Xiu into the cave and struggled to lift him onto the mattress.

She collapsed beside it, panting heavily, but she couldn’t rest yet.

With Zhu Xiu unconscious, she had lost her protector. She was on her own now.

The cave wasn’t safe; a beast could barge in at any moment.

She had to find a way to block the entrance.

There were some stones inside the cave, but they were too large, and she struggled to move them.

After a long and difficult struggle, she had only blocked half the opening.

"Ahem... Host, you can buy a black cloth from the System Mall to cover the entrance. Then, buy some scent-eliminating powder. That way, no beasts will come near."

Bai Wanwan was gasping for breath. With her hands on her hips, she said, "Why didn’t you say so earlier?"

"I was in the middle of an upgrade. I only saw what was happening after it was completed."

"Buy it. Buy it right now."

’Nothing is more important than my own life.’

’No matter how many Points it costs. I have to survive to earn more Points later.’

Thankfully, the price was reasonable this time. It only cost two hundred Points for the black cloth and the scent-eliminating powder.

After hanging the black cloth over the entrance and carefully sprinkling the powder, Bai Wanwan was utterly exhausted and plopped down on the spot.

She rested for at least twenty minutes, but not only did her exhaustion not fade, she also started to feel drowsy.

Forcing her heavy eyelids open, she glanced at Zhu Xiu on the mattress, then shook her head to dispel the drowsiness and got back on her feet.

"Hua Sheng, he’s unconscious. Is there anything I can do to help him?"

"You don’t have enough Points to help him. You’ll just have to wait for him to wake up on his own."

The cave was too dark and gloomy. Without Zhu Xiu to protect her, she felt completely insecure.

So, she had no choice but to buy a lamp from the System Mall.

In a flash, the light illuminated the dark cave, casting its glow upon Zhu Xiu’s face.

Only then did Bai Wanwan notice that Zhu Xiu’s face was an extremely unnatural shade of red.

She reached out to touch his forehead; his skin was alarmingly hot.

It reminded her of the last time his curse had flared up.

She quickly got up to fetch water and began wiping him down over and over.

Each time, his temperature would drop slightly, but it would quickly spike again.

After she had been wiping him down continuously for two hours, Zhu Xiu’s eyes suddenly snapped open.

She looked at him, pleasantly surprised. "Zhu Xiu, you’re awake! Are you feeling uncomf—"

Before she could finish, Zhu Xiu’s hand shot out, grabbing her by the throat and flinging her to the other side of the mattress.

"Zhu Xiu, snap out of it!"

His eyes were pure, pitch-black voids, utterly terrifying.

Bai Wanwan was terrified, but she held onto him tightly.

"Zhu Xiu, don’t be afraid. You’re going to be okay."

The hand around her throat slowly tightened, and Bai Wanwan struggled to speak. "Does it hurt badly? I’ll stay with you."

"Zhu Xiu, wake up! It’s me, Bai Wanwan."

"Wanwan..."

Hearing Zhu Xiu’s voice, tears immediately welled up in Bai Wanwan’s eyes.

"Zhu Xiu, you’re awake?"

She looked up at him. His eyes had returned to normal, with only a faint red ring remaining around his pupils.

She was so relieved she could have cried. She threw her arms around him and held him tight. "You almost choked me to death."

Memories of the past few days flooded Zhu Xiu’s mind, and he realized Wanwan had been by his side the entire time.

"Why didn’t you leave with Xin Feng? It’s dangerous to stay with me. I almost killed you just now."

’Over the past few days, she had indeed considered leaving with Xin Feng several times.’

’But after hesitating, she had always chosen to stay. She’d already put up with it for a few days; if she could just endure a little longer, maybe Zhu Xiu would recover.’

Now that she had waited for him to wake up, it was, of course, time for Bai Wanwan to show her devotion. "You were in that state. How could I rest easy leaving you out here all alone? I had to stay and take care of you."

It was as if something had struck Zhu Xiu’s heart. A strange, intense emotion began to weave itself tightly around it.

Bai Wanwan, who had been observing his reaction, saw him lower his head and flashed him a radiant smile.

Then she noticed that when Zhu Xiu looked at her, his eyes were no longer filled with the same domineering possessiveness as before. There was something else in them now.

"Are you touched?" she teased with a smile.

Zhu Xiu stared at her, not responding right away.

His handsome face held a hint of frailness from his ordeal, and those once cold, merciless eyes now seemed to have room only for her.
