Chapter 100: Zhu Xiu, You Can’t
Chapter 100: Chapter 100: Zhu Xiu, You Can’t
Xin Feng didn’t speak immediately, his gaze shifting to Shi Hua behind her.
Shi Hua quickly realized something was amiss and immediately stood up. "I... I have to go home. I’ll join you and the cubs to sunbathe next time."
With Zhu Xiu’s situation weighing on her mind, Bai Wanwan didn’t press her to stay, simply nodding. "Alright. I’ll come find you when I have time."
Shi Hua didn’t dare to spare Xin Feng another glance and hurried past them.
The moment Shi Hua was gone, Bai Wanwan tugged on Xin Feng’s sleeve. "Don’t scare me. What’s really going on?"
"I’m not trying to scare you. Zhu Xiu’s condition is uncertain, and I can’t just tell other Beastmen about it."
"I understand. Keep talking."
"Zhu Xiu’s lost control. He doesn’t recognize me, and I can’t get near him."
"Lost control?"
Bai Wanwan remembered it had happened once before. His body temperature had been incredibly high.
"Take me to see him."
"We can’t. He’s lost control and is extremely dangerous."
Bai Wanwan couldn’t relax. ’After all, I have the system. If something is truly wrong with Zhu Xiu, I can use my Points to help him.’
"I won’t be able to rest until I see him. Please, just take me there..."
Xin Feng frowned. He didn’t want to lead Wanwan into danger, but he couldn’t bring himself to refuse her soft pleas.
Bai Wanwan didn’t know what he was thinking. Seeing his grim expression and silence, she assumed he was refusing.
Bai Wanwan quickly shook his sleeve again. "I’ll just watch from a distance, I promise! If it’s truly dangerous, you’ll get me out of there right away, okay?"
’She wanted to help Zhu Xiu, but not at the cost of her own life. She would definitely act within her capabilities.’
In the end, Xin Feng couldn’t find it in his heart to refuse her.
"I’ll take you to have a look, but we leave the second things look wrong. And don’t worry too much. His Talent is immense; he didn’t even degenerate in the Wandering Beast City. He’ll be alright."
With that said, Xin Feng placed the cubs in a basket, shifted into his beast form, and hoisted the female onto his back.
He stretched his four limbs and bolted toward the forest outside the tribe...
The weather had grown noticeably warmer. The sunlight felt pleasant and warm on her back.
Bai Wanwan clung tightly to Xin Feng’s neck as enormous leaves brushed past them...
After running for a very, very long time, Bai Wanwan felt Xin Feng begin to slow down.
She immediately looked up and asked, "Are we there?"
The Silver Wolf turned his head back, his voice a low whisper. "Almost. Keep your voice down so we don’t startle him."
"Okay."
Bai Wanwan sat up a little straighter, her eyes peering ahead.
A loud RUSHING sound came from up ahead; the noise was immense.
The Silver Wolf burst out of the dense jungle, and Bai Wanwan pushed aside the last giant leaf blocking her vision.
Before them was a cascading waterfall, its thunderous roar filling the air.
She tugged the fur on the Silver Wolf’s neck. "Where’s Zhu Xiu?"
"Look down."
Bai Wanwan leaned forward slightly, peering down below.
In the pool at the base of the waterfall, an enormous beast was coiled—it was Zhu Xiu in his King Cobra form.
His eyes were closed, and he was coiled motionlessly in the pool, making it impossible to tell if he was napping or something else.
A black mist also floated around his body.
The sight was deeply oppressive and unsettling.
"What’s that stuff on him?"
Xin Feng shook his head honestly. "I don’t know."
The two of them had kept their voices to a bare whisper, and the waterfall’s roar should have covered any sound.
But the King Cobra below suddenly snapped its eyes open and looked up toward them.
Bai Wanwan saw that those familiar eyes were now completely pitch-black.
Her heart dropped.
"Damn it!"
Xin Feng yelled, spinning around and leaping away.
The moment he left their original position, Zhu Xiu shot up against the waterfall’s current, his long tail slamming into the spot where they had just been standing.
Xin Feng knew the level of Zhu Xiu’s Combat Power when he’d lost control; he didn’t dare linger for a second, terrified that a single misstep would get Wanwan hurt.
The two Mutant Beasts, both with extremely powerful Talents, left a series of afterimages as they tore through the jungle.
Bai Wanwan was about to be thrown off, but she forced herself to look back at Zhu Xiu.
She saw that Zhu Xiu was getting closer and closer. At this rate, he would eventually catch them.
"Zhu Xiu... can you hear my voice?"
She tried to communicate with Zhu Xiu, but there was no emotional response in those eyes that looked as if they’d been painted black with ink.
"Zhu Xiu, you can’t hurt us! We’re your family, have you forgotten?"
Regardless of whether Zhu Xiu could hear her, Bai Wanwan kept talking.
"Zhu Xiu, you can hear me, right? Have you forgotten that you’re my Beast Husband? I haven’t even borne you a litter of cubs yet!"
Xin Feng, who was carrying her, suddenly leaped onto a high branch. Zhu Xiu’s massive head closed in rapidly, his scarlet tongue flicking out.
The moment the distance shortened, Zhu Xiu locked his sights on Xin Feng.
His long tail came whipping toward them, and Bai Wanwan’s heart leaped into her throat.
Xin Feng dodged left and right, using his Talent Power to defend himself. He was careful not to injure his opponent, but Zhu Xiu was completely devoid of reason. Every one of his attacks was ferocious and brutal, as if he wanted to smash Xin Feng to death with a single blow.
Seeing how bad the situation was, Bai Wanwan immediately called out to her system. "Hua Sheng, quick, check on Zhu Xiu! Do I have enough Points to save him?"
"He cannot be saved. He is cursed, and the host’s Points are far from sufficient."
’All those Points she had worked so hard to accumulate were never enough when she actually needed them.’
Bai Wanwan was furious. "Then can you give me any constructive suggestions? At this rate, my two Beast Husbands are going to kill each other! How am I supposed to have any cubs then?"
She had no choice but to hit the system where it hurt.
’This system was completely stubborn, and it wouldn’t even let her take out Points on credit. The only leverage she had was threatening not to have cubs.’
Sure enough, the system’s voice immediately sounded. "He has absorbed an Energy Stone, which has partially mitigated the power of the curse. He still retains a sliver of his reason. As long as you can awaken him, he will no longer harm you or your other Beast Husband."
"Then tell me, quick! How do I awaken him?"
"That depends on the host’s own efforts. I don’t know either."
’Wasn’t that just completely useless?’
In the few moments she’d spent talking to the system, Xin Feng was sent flying by a swipe of Zhu Xiu’s tail.
Caught completely off guard, Bai Wanwan tumbled right off Xin Feng’s back.
She landed face-first, hard.
The sharp pain made her grimace as she spat out a mouthful of grass roots.
’What terrible deeds did I do in a past life to deserve this?’
If she hadn’t landed on a thick patch of grass, that fall probably would have broken her back.
She struggled to her feet. Before she could even turn to look for her two Beast Husbands, she heard Xin Feng’s terrified, frantic voice behind her.
"Zhu Xiu, stop! That’s our Wife! You can’t hurt her!"
Bai Wanwan’s heart plummeted, and the hair on the back of her neck stood on end.
Then slowly, so slowly, she turned her head to look back.
The moment she turned, she saw a massive beast’s head. An eerie light shone from its pitch-black eyes.
"Zhu Xiu, you can’t!"
But Zhu Xiu paid no attention, staring at the female before him and opening his massive jaws...
