Delayed for Four Lifetimes: I Awaken by Investing in My Crippled Wife
Chapter 61: Devouring Undead Monsters, Gaining Supernatural Abilities!
-----
Riven was amazed by Daniela’s new Skill, Weapon Throw. However, this Skill was not exclusive to Pierrots. It was actually the signature characteristic Skill of the Juggler Class.
It represented the classic circus performances where skilled entertainers would throw knives or other dangerous weapons at a moving target purely for the audience’s amazement and applause.
The interesting thing about this particular Skill was that technically there was not a single wrong or weak aspect about it. It was genuinely amazing.
With a fixed accuracy of almost one hundred percent and the added benefit of double damage on every successful hit, the Skill was incredibly powerful. There was only one caveat: the thrown weapon had a one percent chance of breaking whenever it was used.
The real loophole that almost nobody out there could easily abuse appeared when the weapons being thrown were S-Rank or higher.
Those high-quality weapons completely lost the chance of destruction and could be thrown infinitely without any risk. The problem was obvious though. Who the hell actually owned enough S-Rank weapons to throw around like toys?
This was one of the classic dilemmas of these incredible yet strangely limited skills. Daniela, however, was now utilizing this Skill with great effectiveness and was helping Riven in an amazing way.
"Hahah...!"
Riven did not even need to do anything further after he had already taken down roughly seventy percent of the Undead forces and weakened the rest. Daniela and Noir completely stole the show from that point onward and finished off every remaining enemy.
But above all else...
"You learned!"
Daniela was paying careful attention to everything. She watched Riven’s movements closely, noticed the specific weaknesses of each monster type, and specifically targeted those weak points with deadly precision.
With the near-perfect accuracy of the Weapon Throw Skill, Daniela was effectively one-shotting the monsters by hurling SS-Rank weapons that struck like small nuclear explosions.
Noir was also helping tremendously. He inhaled all the annoying ghosts and specters and ate them instantly. He was completely immune to curses, poison, and similar afflictions, and he protected Daniela exactly as he had been ordered.
Riven laughed heartily and crossed his arms while nodding in approval. He watched as Daniela finally landed lightly on the floor in front of him and bowed theatrically like a jester who had just finished a spectacular show.
"Ta-da~! How was that?"
"Hahaha, you were incredible. Well done," Riven said, feeling a deep sense of pride almost like a father watching his child succeed. "You make me proud. And as a Pierrot, you indeed put on a very good show."
"Hehehe!" Daniela chuckled happily and ran toward Riven. "Are you hurt? Um..."
"Ugh..." Riven suddenly collapsed onto the ground, gasping heavily for air. "I need... to eat something... I am starving."
"Oh... Okay! Noir! Let’s gather up a feast for Riven!" Daniela nodded quickly and began moving the many corpses into a large pile. "Um... will he really eat these gross things?"
"Bring them in. My aura will do the job," Riven raised one hand and gave a thumbs-up.
"Um... okay!" Daniela nodded and continued working.
Daniela and Noir soon brought over a massive pile of monster remains. Some of the corpses were repeated types, and there were also many glowing orbs that were the only things left behind by the defeated ghosts.
Riven’s aura surged outward and transformed into countless hungry jaws. The jaws bit and tore apart the giant undead bodies without mercy. Death Knights, Headless Knights, Demonic Headless Knights, Ghost Hearts, Dark Specter Hearts, Dark Infantrymen of the Spear, Archer, and Shielder variants, and many more were all consumed.
Slowly, Riven felt a cold ghostly power coursing through his entire body. It pulsed with the very essence of death itself. His soul reacted strongly to this foreign energy and began to absorb it rapidly, assimilating everything through the overwhelming power of Gluttony.
His senses suddenly expanded to a tremendous degree. He found himself capable of seeing things that ordinary people could never perceive, such as the faint souls that were still lingering inside the bodies he was eating. Those souls ended up... in his stomach.
He panicked for a brief moment but was completely unable to stop his Gluttony from devouring the souls as well. Eventually he simply gave up and sighed in resignation.
By the time he felt like he could finally move again, every single corpse and orb that Daniela and Noir had gathered was gone without a trace!
"Riven! How are you feeling?" Daniela asked. She was already having her second lunch of the day.
"Woof!" Noir barked happily while snacking on a pile of Death Knight bones. He seemed to love chewing on them, and the act also made him noticeably stronger.
"I feel... better, but also weird," Riven muttered. He opened and closed his palms repeatedly as he felt a faint ghostly energy releasing from them. His hair had also gained a few unexpected white strands for some unknown reason. "Hah... it feels like my own self... my own self has expanded somehow? It’s... the oddest sensation I have ever experienced."
"Huh?" Daniela had absolutely no idea what he was talking about.
"It’s hard to explain," he said with a slow nod. "But I think... I think I have definitely grown stronger. Yeah. I believe the power of the Undead was never supposed to be held by a living being’s body and soul. Thanks to my Predator Class, that impossible thing became possible for me."
"S-So you’re dead now?!" Daniela panicked immediately. Even Noir looked shocked, his jaws hanging wide open in surprise.
"No!" Riven quickly corrected her and then laughed. "Haha, that’s not it at all. It’s just that I now possess certain traits that Undead normally have, things that the living should not possess... Supernatural Senses? And... some kind of Ghostly Power? Or has my soul become partially like a ghost? This is all very confusing. I need to see some proper clarifications from the System. My stats have skyrocketed again. I feel much stronger overall, but it also feels like aspects beyond pure physical strength have increased. My mind itself feels... larger somehow."
"???"
Daniela and Noir remained completely confused as always. Meanwhile Riven quickly checked the flood of System notifications that began popping up one after another. His eyes widened as he finally realized the true extent of the new power now held within him.
This was only his first dungeon ever, yet it was already proving to have been an amazingly good choice. His foundation continued to grow at an incredible rate.
