Defrosting The Cold Young Master

Chapter 2272 - 2276: Benefactor or Enemy

“Why?” Ye Xingbei and Siao Fengqian asked simultaneously.

“Yes, why?” Beitang Tingxue also curiously pressed on.

“I guess it’s because she’s a relative of a criminal. She has family who died because of Brother Chuan, so she doesn’t dare marry him,” Gu Junzhu said. “After that crime syndicate was caught back then, out of a dozen people, only three main perpetrators were sentenced to death. The rest received fixed prison terms. However, none of them lived to be released. They all gradually died in prison.”

“They all died?” Ye Xingbei asked in shock. “How could they all be dead?”

“The causes of death varied,” Gu Junzhu said. “Some died from illness; others died from fights within the prison.”

“That’s fake, isn’t it?” Ye Xingbei frowned. “All ten-plus people died, that’s too much of a coincidence. Even if some were ill and some got into fights, the death rate is still too high.”

“Indeed, someone must have acted to kill off those dozen people,” Gu Junzhu said. “Among the children trafficked by the crime syndicate, there were two from very affluent families, and their parents had influential backgrounds.”

Ye Xingbei nodded, “I understand now.”

Though she didn’t say it aloud, she felt that those people deserved to die.

Human trafficking and organ trading, they deserve death.

Good riddance!

Gu Junzhu continued, “The crime syndicate was caught by Brother Chuan’s subordinates. Suppose among those people, there’s someone like Ruan Feifei’s father or uncle. Then Brother Chuan would be Ruan Feifei’s enemy…”

“I got it!” Siao Fengqian’s spirit lifted. “If Ruan Feifei is the daughter of a criminal, and her father died because of Brother Chuan, then even if Brother Chuan is grateful for her saving his life, he won’t be infatuated with her like before.”

“Brother Chuan detests being deceived the most,” Gu Junzhu said. “If my guess is right, it proves that everything Ruan Feifei said to Brother Chuan was a lie from start to finish.”

“She claimed that she and her mother wandered near that mountain village and accidentally discovered the cellar while playing hide and seek with the children, thus saving Brother Chuan. But in reality, she and her mother were part of the crime group. She knew about the existence of the syndicate but never thought of reporting them.”

Siao Fengqian excitedly said, “If that’s true, even if she was too young to be legally punished, her image as pure and faultless in Brother Chuan’s heart will be shattered. Brother Chuan won’t unconditionally like or trust her as he did before!”

Gu Junzhu nodded, “Right.”

“When can we get news?” Siao Fengqian was already impatient.

“My subordinates have already started investigating,” Gu Junzhu said. “We should have news soon.”

As he was speaking, his phone rang.

It was Gu Qi calling.

He answered and held the phone to his ear.

“Young master, we found something!” Gu Qi’s voice was full of excitement. “There was someone named Yang Shaotong among the crime syndicate. On the surface, he and Yang Zhaoqin appear to be from the same hometown, but we found an insider who said Yang Zhaoqin was unclear with Yang Shaotong even before her husband died. Yang Zhaoqin’s ex-husband’s last name was Ruan, but it’s highly likely that Ruan Feifei isn’t her ex-husband’s daughter but the daughter of Yang Shaotong.”

“Also, young master, we discovered that Yang Zhaoqin is not dead; she is still alive. She changed her name to conceal her identity and now lives in a village on the outskirts of Beijing.”
