Death Notice
Book 10: Chapter 5: Humanoid Cosmic Giant Soldier
The battleship projection made of blue light gave Qin Lun a subtle sense of familiarity. This Gith battleship, named Faith, looked somewhat like a large marine creature from the Earth Federation—a manta ray, commonly known as a devil fish.
However, along the flat edges of its manta-like body were two streamlined torpedo-shaped vessels. These were Faith’s main cannon structures—the Annihilation Torpedo Ships.
Qin Lun used his fingers to enlarge the transparent light projection and discovered that the cannon ships on both sides of Faith were combinable and could detach from the main body. Of course, this detachment was limited. The two armored torpedo ships lacked life support recycling systems, and their crew quarters were temporary, meaning they couldn’t operate independently for long periods.
After detaching, they could move in regular orbits around the main body under the control of its magnetic system, just like two loyal satellites.
This ingenious design amazed Qin Lun. However, after watching for a while, his attention shifted to two other laser projections. Next to the Faith projection, there were two humanoid projections, one large and one small. The large one was a Bingren, and the small one was the clone body Qin Lun was currently using.
Qin Lun shrank the Faith projection and pushed it aside, then brought the Apostle clone’s humanoid projection closer. This miniature projection provided detailed explanations about the Apostle clone.
This clone closely resembled Gith humans in appearance, but its essence was not Gith. Instead, it was a mythical creature of Gith civilization. Translated into a language Qin Lun understood, it was called an “Angel.”
Both the Gith Angel and the Jannamer, which was currently attacking the Gith, were cosmic creatures. In Gith civilization, they played roles in the origin of civilization and creation. Ancient Gith humans even developed many ancient religions and had ancient scriptures similar to Earth’s “Dead Sea Scrolls,” known as the “Gospel Codex.”
By the time Gith humans entered modern civilization, Gith Angels had essentially become myths and legends. The Gith Angels that once spread human civilization on the original Gith Star had long been extinct, leaving behind only remains that the Gith regarded as holy Relics.
Because the World Law of the Gospel World was extremely unique, when the Star Void penetrated this world, they discovered that most magical combat laws of the Apostles would be sealed, while non-magical martial skills couldn’t be fully replicated in the Apostle bodies, rendering them almost unusable.
Unfortunately, most Apostles in the Star Void preferred to develop magic and physical martial skills, neglecting pure technological means. This led to a stagnation in the exploration and development of this world.
Under these circumstances, the Star Void conducted several experimental deployments and shifted the reconstruction of Apostle bodies from Gith humans to other cosmic creatures. Suddenly, they found a breakthrough. In this alternate dimension where technology was the main World Law, there were several powerful cosmic creatures that Apostles could possess, with Gith Angels and Jannamer both being excellent choices.
Of course, the prototype Gith Angels and the mature Jannamer were far too powerful for the Star Void to reconstruct for possession. They could only choose weakened clone versions of Gith Angels and juvenile forms of Jannamer.
After the Shattered Starry Sky fully grasped this world’s history, the Gith humans also discovered traces of the Star Void and Apostles through changes in world history. To gain the help of the Star Void and Apostles, rather than having them side with the enemy, the Gith humans proactively established contact with the Star Void.
This was the reason for the appearance of the Star Projection. This projection mixed space-time technology and collective belief, making it an extremely complex and mysterious existence. Even the Gith themselves didn’t understand its principles, only knowing that they could perform one-sided summons through the projection, though the probability of getting a response was quite low.
During peacetime, even after hundreds of years, not a single Apostle would descend into this world.
As for the clone body Qin Lun was currently using, it was actually an activated clone created through high-tech biological gene mimicry, using the remains of Gith Angels as a template.
The physical attributes of this gene clone were roughly one percent of the original Gith Angel’s, which generally met the requirements for Apostle possession. However, most of the Apostle’s combat skills and equipment would still be sealed.
After reviewing the clone data, Qin Lun turned his attention to the last projection on the table—the massive humanoid weapon that would likely serve as their main means of attack and defense in the future: the Bingren.
The origin of the Bingren was not complicated and could be traced back to the historical period before Gith civilization ventured into space.
During that time, the Gith had already developed relatively advanced aerospace technology, creating spacecraft capable of entering space.
However, the Gith soon found that the development of spacecraft had hit a bottleneck. The bird-shaped, winged aircraft had been developed to their limits, with no room for further leaps in performance. So, they turned their attention to the development of humanoid aircraft.
After over a hundred years of research and development, and with the gradual improvement of intelligent robots, the Gith humans finally developed a humanoid aircraft capable of entering cosmic space. They called this huge flight mecha, which could be controlled by a pilot, the “Bingren.”
The earliest Bingren models, viewed from today’s perspective, were extremely crude and primitive. Their combat capabilities were even inferior to previous aircraft. For this reason, the “Bingren” was considered a failed technological creation by the Gith upon its inception. After the prototype was retired, the “Bingren” became merely data on paper.
Although the “Bingren” was abandoned as a cosmic weapon, similar humanoid mechas were still used as ground weapons, serving as replacements for old-era tanks and helicopters.
In outer space, the Gith abandoned the development of miniature aircraft and instead focused on building unprecedented cosmic battleships. During the Gith’s first and second cosmic eras, this effort paid off greatly. The massive cosmic battleships crushed other cosmic civilizations in the Gith Star System, allowing the Gith to dominate their star system.
However, during the third cosmic era, when the Gith ambitiously ventured beyond the Gith Star System, they finally encountered the enigmatic cosmic creature Jannamer.
Jannamer were enormous; even their juvenile forms were as large as buildings over a hundred stories tall. Mature forms were comparable in size to giant cosmic battleships like Faith, and there was even a swarm-linked form that, when fully spread out, could cover nearly half of Gith Star’s surface.
These cosmic plankton survived by consuming the bio-energy of living planets. They were like the most ferocious predators in the starry sky, natural enemies of any living planet and cosmic civilization.
Due to their rapidly reproducing biological tissue, the Gith’s cosmic battleship attacks had limited effect. It often took more than ten battleships firing in rotation to truly destroy one.
However, during the long war, the Gith did gain some insights. They discovered that Jannamer had a fatal weakness: inside these giant creatures, there was usually a biological core. Destroying this core would cause the Jannamer to automatically disintegrate.
Yet, because cosmic battleships were huge and not very maneuverable, and their main cannons fired too slowly, they often missed the attack window when the Jannamer exposed their biological cores due to poor positioning.
It was at this point that the Gith humans finally remembered the cosmic humanoid mecha they had once abandoned—the “Bingren.” The greatest advantage of the “Bingren” at its creation was its high mobility and flexibility, advantages that traditional aircraft simply couldn’t match.
After extensive research and testing, the Gith finally deployed the “Bingren” in combat. However, by that time, because the Gith Star System was flooded with large numbers of Jannamer, the Gith missed the best opportunity for mass-producing “Bingren” and ultimately had to accept defeat.
Even so, the “Bingren” played a huge role during the Gith retreat. Without the “Bingren” and the Gith heroes who piloted them, Gith civilization might have already become dust of history.
After gaining a preliminary understanding of the “Bingren,” Qin Lun turned off the Optical Computer and fell into thought. Among the three projections, the information about the “Bingren” was extremely scarce. With his military rank clearance, he only had a general idea and no more detailed data, such as the types of Bingren or how to pilot them.
Qin Lun really wanted to know more detailed information right away, but the thought flashed through his mind and was dismissed. His young female guide was a bit unpredictable, and contacting her again so soon might make him seem too impatient.
“Qin Lun, are you there?” Just as he lay down on the bed-like hibernation pod, he heard Robin’s call in his ear.
Qin Lun tilted his head and realized it wasn’t the Team Channel’s voice but came from the simple communicator on his right ear.
“I’m here. What’s up, my great Leader?” Qin Lun’s response sounded listless. He didn’t really care about who was the Leader. It was just that Robin knew him too well, which limited some of his minor actions and left him feeling a bit frustrated.
“Hehe, have you looked at the Bingren data?” The clever Robin naturally knew why this guy seemed a bit unmotivated, but Kelly had put her in this team precisely to keep Qin Lun from causing trouble, so she wasn’t concerned about his feelings.
“Yeah, but there’s too little information. Can’t really tell much from it!” Qin Lun said indifferently.
“It’s the same for me. But don’t you think the abilities we Apostles have after being swapped by the Star Void are related to the Bingren?” Robin pondered.
“No doubt about it. We’re in outer space; even if our original combat skills weren’t sealed, they’d be pretty useless.” Qin Lun sat up on the bed, frowning. “Besides, we don’t know how to operate battleships, and the Gith wouldn’t trust us with Faith. The only weapon they can give us is the Bingren, nothing else.”
“So, our fate is completely tied to Faith now?” Robin sighed with a bit of worry.
“Gains come with losses. I think after entering this world, in terms of pure combat data, our combat power hasn’t decreased—it should have increased. But we might need a medium, and the Bingren should be that medium!” A faint smile appeared on Qin Lun’s lips.
