Death… And Me
Chapter 4610: News
"Ahem..." Rean pretended he hadn’t heard anything. "Anyway, is there any use for this blood?"
Roan shook his head. "None that I can think of. This is the bloodline of another race, and even if we wanted to experiment with hybridization, there is simply too little of it. The only ones who could probably make any use of this blood are other members of the Thousand-Script Race."
The only Thousand-Script Race experts they knew were Azerion and the members of Thery’s entourage who had gone to Woster with them. Unfortunately, they were all in Natak now, so it wasn’t as if the twins could simply call them over.
Besides, Natak was the very region that wanted to take Luxa and Lunelle. It would be ridiculous to hand over something like this to them, especially after everything that had just happened. Well, they probably had more of it; who knows? Three drops were just too little.
For the moment, Roan decided to put the blood away. "We can find a use for it another time."
They continued searching through the spatial ring. There were a few more things inside, including jade slips containing information, techniques, and other miscellaneous items. However, none of them were particularly useful to the twins’ group.
Most of the information was either irrelevant to their current situation or something they already knew, while the techniques weren’t suitable for any of them. After everything they had gone through to obtain the ring, it was somewhat disappointing that there wasn’t anything else truly valuable inside... other than the Godly Crystals, of course. That was truly a jackpot.
"Is there anything else in the Spatial Ring?" Aurundi asked.
Everyone checked it again, carefully sweeping through every corner with their Divine Senses. Yet, there was nothing else of value that they could use. "Seems to be everything useful."
"Then let’s just focus on going back," Aurundi said. "I don’t want to delay our return anymore."
No one objected. They had already spent enough time dealing with Natak’s people, and there was no reason to linger outside Besgol any longer than necessary. With that, Rean’s airplane continued flying through the skies toward Besgol, leaving the battlefield far behind them.
—
Somewhere else, still outside Besgol, Krava and Tapoqi flew away from the place where they had fought the twins’ group. Both experts had terrible expressions as they used Godly Crystals to recover their depleted Godly Energy. Neither of them spoke for a while. The loss of two Law Gods was weighing heavily on their minds, especially because their mission had been supposed to end with a victory.
"Doluno is dead..." Tapoqi said with a heavy sigh.
"We don’t know that yet," Krava replied, trying to think positively. "After he opened that passage, we were able to escape. Maybe he managed to use his power to escape as well."
Tapoqi looked at her. "Stop fooling yourself. We both know what he used. Regardless of whether he used that power to escape or not, death would have been the only outcome in the end. In fact, both of us almost couldn’t escape if not for his final warning."
At first, Doluno had been confident that he could kill Rean, Roan, and everyone else before he ran out of power. He had already considered the difference between their cultivation levels and believed his overwhelming strength would be enough to finish the battle before his time ran out. However, when Rean and Roan merged with Luxa and Lunelle, and especially after they managed to resist his Blazing Sun Fist, Doluno realized that he simply wouldn’t have enough time to kill everyone anymore.
Because of that, he used his Godly Sense to tell Krava and Tapoqi to get the hell out of there. Only then did he charge after the twins again, but he was ultimately struck down by Aurundi’s Voltari Thunder Bolt. Nonetheless, the brief interval between those two events was enough for Krava and Tapoqi to disappear. By the time Aurundi went to check the area, the duo was already gone.
Krava sighed. "I know... What now? We are freakingly far from Natak at the moment."
"We go back the same way we came here. The array Thery built when he first went to Besgol should still be usable one more time," Tapoqi explained.
Krava had a bad feeling about that. "That will only teleport us to the next region after Besgol. We will still need to pay to teleport several more times after that. If the Besgol Region calls the other regions before we finish teleporting to Natak, we will likely be captured."
She continued, her frustration becoming increasingly apparent, "Besides, are you telling me we will simply go back after losing two Law Gods? We were supposed to return with everyone alive and have the Eternal Day Fox and Eternal Night Raven with us. We failed the mission completely. We lost Corfitiu, Doluno, and the two Eternal beasts are still in Besgol."
Krava clenched her teeth. "Also... I just can’t let it go like this. I want revenge for what they did to Doluno and Corfitiu!"
"Revenge?" Tapoqi looked at her with a puzzled expression. "Revenge is for those who are attacked first. We were the ones who broke the rules. If anything, it is Besgol who will want revenge for our actions, not the other way around. Besides, we can’t leave Natak as it is."
Tapoqi continued, "As things stand, Natak only has three Law Gods at the moment while we are out: Thery, Fogiki, and our newest arrival, Azerion. We aren’t sure if we can trust Azerion yet. Even worse, Azerion has the highest cultivation among us now. What if he tries to take control of Natak?"
"Don’t forget, he came from Woster, a place without laws. Maybe the word ’Unit’ means nothing to him... and perhaps it shouldn’t mean anything to us either, considering that we were the ones who attacked first in this mission."
Krava remained silent, knowing there wasn’t much she could say against that. Their situation had changed too quickly.
"Anyway," Tapoqi shook his head. "We need to guarantee Natak’s safety. Without a doubt, our main objective at the moment is to return to Natak. Our race there definitely noticed Corfitiu and Doluno’s Soul Flames extinguishing. They know they are dead. We need to prevent chaos from breaking out. That’s priority number one, even above the Eternal Day Fox and the Eternal Night Raven."
Krava gritted her teeth. Unfortunately for her, she knew every single word Tapoqi said was correct. As much as she wanted to stay behind and find a way to get revenge, doing so would only make their already terrible situation worse. If Natak descended into chaos while they were gone, there might not even be a place for them to return to.
"Fine!" she finally said. "However, I won’t give up that easily. I’m definitely coming back to Besgol in the future to get that fox and raven!"
Tapoqi nodded. "That goes without saying, but stability comes first. Let’s not forget that Besgol will contact the other regions and tell them what we did. It will be very difficult for us to remain in the alliance, and if we require help against the Godly Creatures, things might turn quite badly. Natak is considerably larger than your average region, so we receive larger hordes on average as well. Losing the alliance’s support could put us in a very dangerous position when the next major horde arrives."
"Alright," Krava accepted. "Anyway, I’ve absorbed enough Godly Energy. From here onward, we are going back to the teleport array at full speed. We need to teleport away before our involvement becomes known to the other regions."
The two didn’t waste any more time. They immediately increased their speed, heading toward the teleport array they had used when they first entered the Besgol Region. Well, not exactly inside Besgol, since the Sacred Relic would detect their presence. It was an array built outside.
Their expressions remained grim as they flew, both of them fully aware that returning to Natak would be only the beginning of their problems.
—
The twins’ group took a different route once again, just in case Krava and Tapoqi decided to try to take Luxa and Lunelle again. In truth, though, it would be almost impossible for either side to find the other under the current circumstances. The area was vast, and neither group knew exactly what route the other was using. After the battle, both sides had also deliberately changed their routes, making a chance encounter even less likely.
Nonetheless, five days later, the twins’ group finally arrived in Besgol.
Naturally, they immediately contacted the Godly Subjugation Guild and the other cultivators involved in the matter. There were procedures to follow after such a serious incident, and the twins’ group had no reason to hide what had happened.
The details of the battle, the involvement of Natak’s experts, and the deaths of Corfitiu and Doluno all had to be reported properly. For the time being, at least, the twins were more than willing to let the guild deal with it.
As the necessary procedures moved forward, Rean casually browsed through the Besgol Network newsletter. He wasn’t particularly interested in the usual news, but one particular headline caught his attention.
"Oh!" Rean’s expression changed slightly as he read it. "Zandal and Tobao already made their move, huh?"
His words immediately attracted the others’ attention. After everything that had happened recently, Zandal seemed to have gone through with his word.
