Death… And Me
Chapter 4565: Why Else?
The Tablet Key played its part perfectly, sending the twins’ group all the way back to the Fortress. Everyone appeared above the teleport array at the same time, but instead of celebrating their return, they immediately raised their guards and jumped away from the center. The reason was simple: they had all seen the silver shadow that had rushed into the teleportation array at the very last moment, just before the teleportation happened.
A moment later, they saw a metallic blob floating calmly at the center of the array. It didn’t make any effort to attack or pursue them. In fact, it simply remained there as though arriving alongside them had been the most natural thing in the world.
"It’s the Rosvelt Sect Master!" Kentucky suddenly exclaimed. He obviously recognized the Sect Master from his time in the Meeting Hall, and there was no mistaking that strange body of floating liquid metal.
Arcis and Thery immediately released their cultivation and Laws, their expressions becoming serious. They might not be Peak Stage Law Gods like the Sect Master, but they were still Law Gods, and killing either of them wouldn’t be easy, especially Arcis. Besides, Azerion was still with them.
"Seems like I was right to keep an eye on that ancient array in the commercial building," a voice echoed from the floating metallic blob. "You ended up activating it for me."
Arcis remained ready to fight, his eyes fixed on Zandal. "You knew we were going there? Why haven’t you tried to stop us? You could have prepared an ambush or something... Or could it be that you think you can take us all?"
Zandal immediately discarded that idea. "Take all of you at once? That’s not going to happen. I’m confident I can win a battle even if all of you come at me together, but I’m certain I wouldn’t be able to capture or kill all of you, especially the Law Gods."
Zandal’s admission didn’t make anyone feel relieved. If anything, knowing that the Peak Stage Law God was confident enough to say that he could defeat their entire group made the atmosphere even more tense.
"As for why I haven’t tried to stop you, that’s because I needed you to activate that teleport array for me," Zandal explained without any shame. "Now, where is your home? Besgol, right? Bring me there. Don’t worry, I won’t cause any issues."
Arcis narrowed his eyes. "I can’t simply bring you to my home like that. You still haven’t answered our questions either. Why did you come? What do you want from our Besgol?"
Roan added another question, his expression equally serious. "Above all, why did you follow us alone? You are the Sect Master of Rosvelt. Your position shouldn’t allow for such a risky action."
"You said I’m the Sect Master, right? Well, not anymore," Zandal replied casually. "The reason I was the Sect Master at all was because we were trapped in that place. Becoming the Sect Master was the most I could wish for after reaching the Peak Stage of the Law God Realm."
He paused for a moment before continuing, his voice carrying a strange mixture of satisfaction and boredom. "Simply put, there wasn’t anything else for me to achieve. I stood at the peak of that world. Cultivation breakthroughs were out of the question, after all. Still, I’ve always known one thing: there were teleport arrays that could be used to teleport out of my world."
"Once you freed... I believe you call the entire Region Woster? Anyway, once you freed Woster, all that waited for me were years and more years of politics with the forces of the outside world. The only reason I stopped cultivating at all was that there was nothing left to cultivate. What would have been the point of sitting in secluded cultivation for another thousand years when I knew I couldn’t advance?"
Zandal floated out of the teleport array and looked back at it, almost as if he were saying goodbye to Woster itself. "Believe it or not, I’m not the only one who thinks like this. Woster will soon see at least half of its forces making their way out of there. Some will want to explore the outside world, some will seek resources, and others will simply want to see what they’ve been denied for countless years. I just happened to know about this array and the fact that you might have used it at some point."
Celis found that particularly interesting. "You didn’t want anyone coming with you because you didn’t want to compete for whatever there is on this side."
"Bingo!" Zandal confirmed immediately. "Your little friend Coyui told us a lot of things, including the stories you shared about your homes. Almost no Law Gods in each Region. Isn’t that a dream? Almost no one to fight me for anything."
The way Zandal said it made it sound as though he had just discovered a treasure map.
"And do you expect us to simply let you come?" Arcis asked in a cold voice.
"You don’t really have much of a choice, to be honest," Zandal explained. "I have to say, being able to use Celestial Sense outside one’s body is really convenient. You can try to escape from me if you want, but I will definitely keep my eyes on you and simply follow you wherever you go. Unless you have some way to shake off a Peak Stage Law God using Celestial Sense, I don’t see how you’re going to stop me."
Well, the twins did have Rean’s Celestial Sense Bending Skill... They were not going to tell Zandal that.
The surprising thing was that Roan couldn’t feel any lies coming from Zandal. Everything he said seemed genuine. The Spirit wasn’t hiding some obvious murderous intention, nor was he pretending to be harmless while preparing an attack. He really did seem determined to leave Woster and explore the outside world on his own terms.
"You are talking about resources," Roan pointed out. "You were the Sect Master of Rosvelt. Resources should be the very thing you have no lack of."
"Oh! But I did bring a lot of resources with me," Zandal replied. "I have plenty of Godly Horror Crystals to make use of. Once again, I won’t have to worry about anything from now on."
Rean and the others immediately disliked that answer.
"Since you heard about how things work outside, you should have known that such actions aren’t accepted where we come from," Rean said. "Unity and trust are what keep our Regions safe against the Godly Creature Hordes. And yet, you basically stole a lot of your own Sect’s resources."
"Stole? Hahaha!" Zandal laughed out loud. "All the Godly Horror Crystals I have with me... it was I who hunted them. I didn’t touch the Sect’s treasures at all. In fact, I left behind pretty much everything related to being the Sect Master back in the Sect. They’ll be able to appoint a new Sect Master in a few days at most. I even left a note of goodbye."
That explanation was technically reasonable, but it still seemed extremely fishy to the twins’ group. Above all, they knew what could happen if Zandal had some way of calling his Sect experts to this place. Besgol would stand no chance against so many Law Gods.
But then again, it was also true that none of them could stop Zandal if he decided to follow the twins’ group. He was a Peak Stage Law God, and now that he had left Woster, there was no barrier preventing him from using Celestial or even Godly Sense normally. Trying to escape him without some sort of special method would be nearly impossible.
Unless, of course, the twins were to use the trick of their Dimensional Realm.
"Last question," Roan said, remembering something important. "You said you knew which teleport arrays were still usable. How exactly did you know that?"
Zandal’s metallic body turned in Azerion’s direction.
"Why else?" he replied. "Azerion told me, of course!"
