Death… And Me

Chapter 4559: Paying the Favor

  • Next Chapter

Just a few hundred kilometers from Dlaval City, Rean’s airplane landed in an inconspicuous location while keeping its Light Bending Arrays active. There was nothing particularly remarkable about the place, which was exactly what made it suitable for their purposes. Arcis checked the coordinates displayed on his RC one more time before looking around.

"This should be the place," Arcis said, confirming the location.

The airplane had, of course, mapped the route Roan had taken when he went after the ’ghost’ of woster. Roan simply told them to go to a specific location and wait for them there.

However, before anyone could say anything else, something strange began happening outside.

The blue sky and the few clouds above them suddenly started becoming blurry, almost as if the entire world had been smeared. Arcis and the others immediately looked upward in confusion.

"Hm? What is happening here?"

Cracks began spreading across the sky in every direction, making it look as though the world itself were breaking apart. The phenomenon was extremely convincing, but it wasn’t actually space that was cracking. Space in the Celestial Plane was incredibly stable, and the phenomenon wasn’t remotely powerful enough to cause actual damage to it. What they were witnessing was something else entirely.

Nonetheless, cracks could now be seen as far as their eyes could reach, stretching across the sky and even the distant surroundings. In fact, it was happening all over Woster! "Could it be..."

"Yes," Rean confirmed on their side. "The arrays that have kept Woster isolated all this time are breaking down. The powerful illusions that always forced cultivators back into Woster will be gone in a few minutes at most. After that, nothing will be able to stop anyone from leaving anymore."

"I see..." Arcis and the others nodded as they finally understood what they were witnessing. The very prison that had trapped countless generations of cultivators was finally beginning to collapse.

But then...

They froze.

One by one, they slowly turned their heads to the side, their expressions becoming increasingly strange as they noticed someone standing nearby. Rean was there, sitting casually on Kentucky’s back and watching the same scene as everyone else as though he had been there all along. He wasn’t alone, either. Celis, Roan, Kachia, and even Coyui were standing there with him.

Everyone’s eyes widened.

"WHERE THE HELL DID YOU COME FROM?!"

—

Going back a few minutes in time, just when the system message appeared...

*Pin!*

[The Goslau Great Void Echo has been successfully absorbed.]

*Pin!*

[Congratulations, Hosts! The investigation of the City Prison of Woster has been concluded successfully.]

[Reward 01: 460 Orb Points.]

[Reward 02: Goslau Great Void Echo added to the system.]

[Additional Rewards based on performance have been unlocked.]

[Free Cultivation Technique Upgrade for the Zone God Realm.]

[Vinx Great Void Access Unlocked.]

[New System Skills Available.]

[New Title Unlocked: The World’s Newcomers]

Rean faintly smiled as he looked over the notifications. He hadn’t needed to absorb all of the Goslau Great Void Echo. The important part was simply obtaining enough of it for the Orb System to recognize and acquire it. Once that requirement had been fulfilled, there was no reason to continue draining the Echo.

Even so, none of the twins’ group had expected the additional rewards to be this generous. A free cultivation technique upgrade was already an excellent reward, while the other two additions opened many possibilities.

"Great!"

—

Meanwhile, on the surface...

Coyui was brought to a cell inside the sect prison, the same place where he had been kept after the events in the Meeting Hall. A guard eventually arrived, unlocked the cell, and gestured for him to come out.

"Come."

Coyui nodded and followed without resistance. He was then escorted to the Meeting Hall once more, where numerous Law God High-Elders surrounded Roan. Roan’s cultivation had been completely sealed, leaving him in a state where he was barely any better than a recently born child in terms of cultivation capabilities. Even so, none of the High-Elders or the Sect Master dared take their eyes off him.

The situation was simply too serious.

The deal was that Roan would tell the Rosvelt Sect everything as long as they allowed him to see Coyui. The sect had assumed that Roan wanted revenge for what had happened, but that didn’t matter to them. Coyui was not one of the outsiders, and now that Roan had been captured, Coyui’s value had diminished considerably. Allowing them to meet was therefore a small price to pay for whatever information Roan might provide.

"R-Roan..." Coyui was taken aback when he saw him.

Roan glared at him. "Come over. You know what you did, right?"

Coyui nodded slightly, his expression uneasy. "B-But you guys were the ones who didn’t fulfill your part of the agreement first! You said you would teleport me out of Woster! Instead, you teleported me right into Rosvelt Sect. You can’t blame me for telling them everything. You betrayed me first!"

Roan walked over as well, his expression remaining completely calm. "Exactly. That was our fault, so I’m here to fix it. We gave our word that you would be sent out, and I intend to commit to it."

Zandal, who had been watching the exchange, found the situation rather amusing. He looked at Roan with interest before speaking. "Does that mean you will tell us how to leave this world? I won’t mind sending Coyui out if you explain it nicely. Of course, we will need to have full control over the method. Is it a teleport array? If that’s the case, I’ll require you and your friends to build a few extra for us."

Roan glanced back at Zandal. "No teleport array. The very thing that keeps Woster sealed is about to break down. Anyone can leave anytime they feel like it."

Zandal and the High-Elders were immediately taken aback. "What?! How?!"

Roan simply shook his head. "You will see. Anyway, I’ll take my leave now. Coyui, you will come with me."

"Hmph!" Zandal clearly had no intention of allowing such a thing to happen. He moved forward, his metallic body shifting slightly as he prepared to stop Roan. "Let me see how you will escape this place."

Roan’s expression didn’t even change. In fact, the Sect Master and the High-Elders didn’t even have the opportunity to see his face for much longer.

*Vup!*

*Vup!*

That’s because Roan simply disappeared right in front of their eyes!

No, not only Roan.

Coyui disappeared at exactly the same time!

"What the hell?!"

—

*Vup!*

Back in the Woster Guarding Grounds, Roan suddenly appeared beside Rean. He immediately pressed one hand against the base of the gigantic pillar while the system made sure his soul remained protected from the Soul Extraction Threads. Without thinking twice, Roan released his Yin Energy.

An enormous wave of Yin Energy surged from his body and poured directly into the pillar. "Stop wasting my time and come out already!"

Inside the sealed space, the being within the Womb had never felt Roan so close before. More importantly, it had never sensed Roan’s Yin Energy with such clarity. The moment that pure Yin Energy reached it, the reaction was immediate.

*Crack, crack, crack...*

The ancient array surrounding the Womb began cracking under the pressure generated by the Womb’s own power. The being inside desperately wanted to leave. It wanted to be born, to emerge from its confinement, and to immediately launch itself toward the source of the Yin Energy.

Just like Luxa had instinctively desired Rean’s Yang Energy when she was awakened, the immature being within this Womb had developed an instinctive craving for Roan’s Yin Energy.

*Plang!*

The array surrounding the Womb finally reached its limit.

The countless runes shattered apart, breaking into fragments of Navy-Blue Light that scattered throughout the sealed space before disappearing. The crack running through the Womb opened completely, and a brilliant Navy-Blue and Golden Light shot out of it like a bullet.

It struck what appeared to be the very limit of the sealed space.

*Crack, crack, crack, crack, crack...*

The impact immediately spread outward.

Back outside, the gigantic pillar began cracking all over its surface, and the damage wasn’t limited to its underground portion. The cracks rapidly spread through the surface section of the pillar as well, right where the Sect Master and the High-Elders had just watched Roan disappear.

They weren’t idiots.

The connection was obvious.

Something was happening underground.

"The Woster Guarding Grounds!"
