Death… And Me

Chapter 4520: Too Good

  • Next Chapter

Kentucky and Kachia were taking a test for the Rosvelt Sect, while Rean’s group was doing the same for the Arrays Guild. That left Thery’s group to investigate the Thousand-Script Sect in the north section, and they had just arrived at its entrance.

The disciples stationed in front immediately noticed Thery, Haniala, and Sison. With their exceptionally thick bloodlines, there was little doubt that they belonged to the Thousand-Script Race. Naturally, the disciples assumed they were either members of the sect or cultivators from another branch of their race.

"How can we help you, friends?"

Thery smiled politely. "We are here to join the Thousand-Script Sect."

The disciple in front quickly nodded. "I see. Naturally, someone with a bloodline like yours is definitely welcome. You only need to go through the proper procedures and an aptitude test. Please, follow me."

Thery’s group did as requested. However, after taking only a few steps, the disciples noticed that Celis and Arcis were also following them. They immediately stopped and turned around.

"Only members of the Thousand-Script Race can continue beyond this point. If your companions wish to go any further, they will need special dispensation."

Arcis faintly smiled. He obviously had no intention of hiding anymore. Instead, he placed a hand on the disciple’s shoulder. "How about you check my special dispensation?"

The disciple narrowed his eyes. He clearly didn’t understand what Arcis meant, but since Arcis was touching him, the disciple immediately sent his Godly Sense inside his body to check his cultivation.

The next instant, his expression changed completely.

"T-This... Law God!"

The disciple was taken aback and instinctively took several steps backward. His face paled as he realized that he had just treated a Law God like an ordinary outsider. "I-I apologize for my behavior, Senior! May I inquire about the reason for your visit?"

Arcis casually pointed at Thery. "I’m just a close friend of his. Since he said he wanted to join his race’s sect, I decided to tag along. Your sect must have a few outer elders from other races as well, doesn’t it? I could take a position like that if necessary."

The disciple who had been accompanying Thery couldn’t help but swallow hard. "Fr-Friend... Could it be that you are a..."

Thery smiled as well, then placed a hand on the disciple’s shoulder.

Sure enough, the disciple immediately sensed Thery’s cultivation.

Another Law God!

The disciple’s legs almost went weak. "Se-Senior! It was this disciple’s mistake for taking you for an ordinary cultivator. Please, follow me. There is no need for you to take the normal entrance tests that we give to other cultivators."

Thery obviously didn’t refuse such convenient treatment. He merely nodded and pointed toward Celis and Arcis. "Those two are with me. There shouldn’t be any problems, right?"

"Absolutely none!" the disciple quickly confirmed.

Celis simply followed along, finding the whole situation rather amusing. ’Seems like I’m the only one who doesn’t need any tests like Kentucky and Rean. Well, that’s to be expected.’

’Shut up! You took the easier route by having Arcis and Thery with you!’ Rean and Kentucky complained simultaneously.

Sure enough, despite being far away from each other, the soul connection allowed them to see exactly what Celis was doing.

Roan was also aware of what the others were doing, but he simply ignored their conversation. His focus was mainly ahead. The further he traveled, the more obvious it became why Woster contained so many high-level experts.

He was already much farther from Dlaval City than he had ever gone before, yet cultivators were still everywhere. Many of them were actively hunting Godly Creatures, sometimes in groups and sometimes alone. Seeing so many cultivators hunting outside the Sacred Relic’s influence would have been almost miraculous back in Besgol.

Above all, Roan had already encountered three different Godly Predators, and he had only been traveling for about four hours. According to the information he had obtained, he was still several hours away from the point where cultivators supposedly stopped venturing. That was where they would find the Ghost of Woster, after all.

*Sip...*

Roan took a small sip of hot coffee while keeping his attention on his surroundings. He had made sure that no one could detect the airplane, and its concealment was working perfectly. The coffee, however, was proving to be much more useful than he had expected.

He looked down at the cup for a moment. ’Although rare, the idiot can get a few things right every now and then...’

Roan made sure Rean couldn’t read that particular thought through their connection. There was no need to give the idiot unnecessary confidence.

"Hum?"

Suddenly, Roan noticed something strange. The horizon had begun to change color. It was still daytime, and there were very few clouds above. As far as he could tell, the sky should have remained the same blue color all the way to the horizon. Yet, while the sky directly above remained its usual blue, the distant horizon was gradually becoming darker.

Roan narrowed his eyes. No... It wasn’t merely a darker shade of blue. It was becoming Navy-Blue.

’Vancuger could have mentioned this little fact.’

[Actually, he couldn’t,] Sister Orb suddenly replied.

Roan frowned. ’What do you mean?’

[There are still a few cultivators around, even this far from the city. Why don’t you stop for a moment and ask them if they can see the sky in the distance turning Navy-Blue?]

Roan considered it for a moment before nodding. He slowed the airplane and eventually brought it down near the ground. Not far away, he spotted a couple fighting a Godly Beast. They had pretty much finished it already.

Roan immediately left the airplane and flew toward them using his own cultivation. The reason was simple: he wanted the couple to believe that he was at least a Zone God.

As expected, the couple noticed Roan flying toward them and immediately raised their guard. However, they didn’t attempt to flee. His ability to fly was enough confirmation that they wouldn’t be able to escape if he intended to attack them. Fortunately, higher-level cultivators usually didn’t attack weaker ones without a reason. Woster followed the law of the strong, but even here, cultivators still possessed their own pride.

"Senior, is there something we can help with?" the man asked, taking the front and subtly positioning himself between Roan and his partner.

Roan nodded slightly. "At least you know what is important. Anyway, I need you to check something for me. Don’t worry. It has nothing to do with a dangerous situation."

The couple exchanged a skeptical glance, but the man eventually nodded. "What would it be, Senior?"

Roan waved his hand, and the airplane’s invisibility was immediately turned off, revealing it in the air nearby. The couple’s expressions changed again. Anyone who possessed an airplane generally had a very high status. Even worse, most airplane owners were Law Gods! Roan could very much be one!

"Come inside," Roan said before entering the airplane.

He didn’t bother turning off the Godly Pressure Disguise. There was no need. The couple couldn’t use Godly Sense in Woster anyway, so they had no way of examining the airplane’s actual characteristics.

The two Aura Gods hesitated for a moment before following him inside. The airplane quickly rose into the sky once more, and Roan pointed toward the horizon.

"Take a look over there. Tell me what you see."

The couple had expected many things from a mysterious senior who had suddenly summoned them into an airplane. Sightseeing definitely wasn’t one of them.

"Errrr... It’s a nice view?"

Roan’s mouth twitched. "In detail."

"Ahem..." The man straightened himself and carefully examined the view. "Well, there is the sky, a few clouds, the forest below, and some hills and mountains. None of them are particularly tall."

Roan nodded. "Is the sky on the horizon any different from the sky directly above us?"

The couple looked at each other before looking back toward the horizon. After a few seconds, they shook their heads. "They don’t seem any different, Senior."

"Can you see anything with a more Navy-Blue color?"

The two Aura Gods immediately squinted. They tried looking as far into the distance as possible, even adding Godly Energy to their eyes, but neither of them could see anything unusual.

"We’re sorry, Senior. We truly can’t see this Navy-Blue color you are talking about. As far as we can tell, the sky is the same normal blue all the way to the horizon."

Roan narrowed his eyes. As expected, Sister Orb had been right. Whatever he was seeing wasn’t something ordinary cultivators could perceive.

The couple turned back toward Roan, only to find him calmly holding two cups. He handed one to each of them.

"This is?"

"Coffee," Roan answered as he moved back toward the airplane’s controls. "Keep looking. I’ll let you leave later."

The couple stared at the cups in their hands, completely lost. Was this Senior hallucinating? Or perhaps there was some hidden poison in the drink? But then again, would a Zone God or maybe even a Law God really need to resort to poison to deal with two Aura Gods?

The woman eventually decided that there was little harm in trying.

*Sip...*

Her eyes widened. "This is nice..."

Her partner immediately looked at her before cautiously taking a sip himself.

*Sip...*

"Wow..." He stared at the cup. "I’ve never tried anything this good before."

Roan remained focused on the horizon. He had prepared coffee with milk and sugar for them, after all. Neither of them seemed to realize just how valuable that discovery was.

Woster didn’t have coffee!

And yet, somehow, that was already the most important discovery the twins’ group had made since entering this isolated city... at least it was for Rean...

Even Roan had to admit that the investigation was progressing remarkably well.

Unfortunately, the coffee machine was not going to help him uncover the secret behind Woster’s isolation.

...probably not.
