Dawn Experiment
Chapter 103
#Day 28 — 20:45
Kim had been on the Mother Mercy since dawn. She had climbed through its engine compartment, traced its corroded wiring, measured its hull for the outboard mounts. She had eaten nothing but a protein bar and drunk water from a tank that tasted of rust. And now, walking down the lower deck corridor toward Note's cabin, she could still smell the fishing boat in her clothes—fish guts, diesel, the sour sweat of men who had not showered in days.
She paused at the junction. The workshop was supposed to be closed. But through the porthole, she saw light—faint, flickering, the blue-white glow of a printer in motion.
She changed direction.
The door was unlocked. She pushed it open slowly, slipped inside, her boots silent on the metal floor. Note stood at the printer, her back to the door, her shoulders hunched. She was watching the machine lay down layer after layer of translucent silicone, her hands braced on the table, her breathing shallow.
Kim looked at the table. Small motor parts. Wires. And a shape she had not expected.
She stepped closer. The printer's light caught the object—curved, translucent, with four distinct protrusions. Not a rubber tube. A toy. The longer ends were splitting into two. The shorter ends too. Four. A flower motif at the base, delicate, precise.
Kim caught a whiff of jasmine.
She kept her voice low. "You know printing non-essential items is forbidden, right?"
Note spun. Her face went pale, then red. She tried to step in front of the printer, but Kim was already beside her, looking at the object more closely.
"I'm sorry," Note said. "I didn't use many materials. I just wanted to help Aida. She works so hard, and I thought—"
"Breathe." Kim touched her shoulder. "I'm not the council."
Note let out a shaky breath. She moved aside, letting Kim see the screen. The design was complex—vibration, heating, and a feedback loop that transmitted pleasure from one side to the other. Micro-electrodes along the shafts. Kim's eyebrows rose.
"It shares pleasure," Note said. "The more one side feels, the more signal it sends to the other. Up to a maximum. It's meant to be—connected."
Kim looked at the clock. They were already late for treatment.
"We finish it together," she said. "Then we go."
#Day 28 — 21:30
The treatment suite was warm, the lamps dim, the air soft with jasmine. Kim had imagined it differently—candlelight, maybe, and Aida waiting with tea. She had not imagined Vivienne Laurent sitting on the lounge in a silk robe, her hair loose, her eyes clear, watching the door.
Zhao opened it before Kim could knock. He grinned, reached out, and ruffled her hair. "You smell like fish."
"You try installing motors on a boat full of men who haven't showered in weeks." She swatted his hand away, but she was smiling.
Then she saw Vivienne, and her smile faltered.
She straightened, brought her hand up in a salute. "Captain."
Vivienne tilted her head. Her lips curved. "At ease, soldier." She rose, crossed the room, and circled Kim slowly. "I remember the last time we did this. You were very nervous."
Kim's throat tightened. "I—"
"You failed me," Vivienne said. But her voice was light, almost teasing. "I think you owe me one."
Kim looked at Zhao for help. He shrugged, grinning. "Captain's orders."
Vivienne laughed. "Yes. Captain's orders."
Kim opened her mouth to protest, but the words would not come. Vivienne was standing close now, close enough that Kim could smell her—lavender, warm, a hint of spice. She looked at Zhao again, and he nodded, just once.
"Okay," Kim said. "Okay."
Mei-Lin slipped through the new door to Chen's room, and the family of the treatment suite shifted, making space. She gave them a warm smile, her hand lingering on the doorframe. "You're all welcome to join us later," she said softly, "but it's Chen's feeding time now." She tapped her wrist where a watch would be. Aida stepped forward, pressing a soft kiss to Mei-Lin's temple. "Rest early tonight," she whispered against her skin. "Don't get too tired." Mei-Lin's eyes fluttered closed for a moment before she nodded and disappeared behind the door with a gentle click.
Note stood by the table, still holding the box, her eyes on Aida. Kim saw it—the way Note looked at her, the way she had not looked at anyone else.
Aida smiled, reached for the box. "Is this for me?"
Note nodded, her face red. "I made it. For you. To help with—" She stopped, swallowed. "To help."
Aida opened the box. Her expression changed—surprise, then curiosity, then something warmer. She lifted the toy, turned it in the light. The four protrusions caught the lamplight. She touched the flower at its base.
"It splits," Aida said.
Note nodded. "The longer ends separate into two. The shorter ends too. Four total. Each has micro-electrodes and a feedback loop. When one side feels pleasure, it transmits to the others. It's meant to—" She hesitated. "To share. All of you at once."
Aida looked at her. Then she kissed her—soft, slow, a thank you that said more than words. Kim watched Note's face, the way she closed her eyes, the way her hands came up to Aida's waist.
Vivienne's double dildo appeared in front of Kim's face. She jumped.
Vivienne grinned. "My turn."
Kim's cheeks flushed hot as she shot Zhao a desperate glance, her eyes wide and searching. He caught her silent plea, nodded almost imperceptibly, then stepped between her and Vivienne. "Actually, Captain, I need to borrow Kim first. She's been working on that fishing boat all day." He took Kim's hand, guiding her toward the door. "We'll be at the stern bath. Won't be long." Relief washed over Kim's face as they slipped away from the suite.
#Day 28 — 22:15
The bath was warm, the water just at the edge of too hot. Zhao sat behind Kim, his chest against her back, his arms around her waist. She could feel him inside her, soft now, not moving, just present.
They had been quick. Playful. Familiar. The way they always were.
She leaned her head back against his shoulder. "How was your day?"
"You first."
She told him about the Mother Mercy. The smell. The women sleeping in the captain's cabin while the men slept on deck. Emeka and his brother on the bridge, giving up their only privacy. The way some of the men had looked at her—not with hunger, exactly, but with something close. Hope, maybe. Or desperation.
"They haven't touched a woman in weeks," she said. "Some of them probably never will again."
Zhao was quiet. His hips moved, just a fraction, reminding her he was still there.
She thought of Note and Aida, kissing in the treatment suite. She thought of the way Note had looked at her in the shower with zhao.
"Do you know?" she asked. "About Note and Aida?"
He nodded.
"And you're not jealous?"
He was quiet for a moment. "Sometimes. But we've learned to separate things. Body from heart. Work from family." His fingers traced circles on her wet skin. "When they made us the treatment team, Aida and I had to figure it out. Eighty-six women. We couldn't be jealous and still do what needed to be done." He kissed her shoulder, his lips lingering. "Aida loves me. I love her. The rest is just survival. That doesn't change."
Kim stared at the stars. "What about us?"
"What about us?"
"What are we, Zhao?"
He thought about it. She felt him thinking, the way his breath slowed, the way his arms tightened.
"I like you," he said. "I enjoy your company. But I have a family. A commitment. I can't give everyone the same thing."
"I know."
"That doesn't mean I don't care about you."
She turned in his arms, faced him. The water lapped at her shoulders. "What about Note?"
He smiled. "What about her?"
"I think I might—" She stopped. "I don't know what I think."
"Then don't think." He touched her face. "Let it happen. Or don't. You don't have to decide tonight."
She kissed him. Soft, slow, a thank you for not pushing, for not promising what he could not give.
When she pulled back, her breath caught in her throat. Her eyes searched his face, hungry for something she couldn't name.
Zhao traced the curve of her cheekbone with his thumb. "You're not alone, Kim. You don't have to be."
They sat in silence for a moment, the water warm around them. Then Kim spoke again.
"Would you let Aida be with Note?"
Zhao considered the question. "It's not about letting. Aida is her own person. She can give her heart to whomever she wants. The only thing I ask is that she stays in the family. That she still loves me. That she still comes home."
Kim absorbed that. "That's—different. From the old world."
"The old world is gone." He touched her chin, lifted her face to his. "We're making something new. It's messy. It's confusing. But it's ours."
She looked at him. "And you? What do you want from me?"
"I want you to be happy." He kissed her forehead. "I want you to feel safe. I want you to know that you can call me when you're lonely, and I'll come. Not because I have to. Because I want to."
She leaned into him. "What if I want more?"
"Then we talk about it. We figure it out. Together."
She was quiet for a long time. Then she nodded.
Kim opened her mouth, then closed it. Her gaze dropped to where his thumb traced circles on her skin. "Okay," she said finally, the word catching slightly. She swallowed and nodded once more firmly, as if convincing herself. "Okay."
#Day 28 — 22:40
The treatment suite was a tangle of bodies and breath.
Vivienne pulled Kim onto the bed before she could think, her hands warm, her mouth insistent. Kim gave in—not because she had to, but because she wanted to. Because Vivienne was beautiful and kind and she had already said yes.
"You're not getting away this time," Vivienne murmured against her throat.
Kim laughed, breathless. "Captain's orders?"
"Captain's orders."
Aida was beside Note, their bodies curved together, the new toy between them. Kim watched them for a moment—the way Note's hand shook, the way Aida whispered something in her ear, the way Note relaxed into her.
Then Vivienne's mouth found her breast, her tongue tracing a slow, deliberate circle around the nipple before drawing it between her lips. The sudden wet heat sent a jolt through Kim's body that scattered her thoughts like startled birds, and she stopped watching anything else.
The rhythm built like waves against a shore, each thrust deeper than the last. Bodies shifted, skin sliding against sweat-slicked skin. Aida moved behind Kim, her hands warm and firm on Kim's hips, fingers pressing into soft flesh. Kim's breath caught as she felt the double penetration—Vivienne beneath her with parted lips and half-closed eyes, Aida behind her with hot breath against her neck. The familiar stretch and heat bloomed inside her, radiating outward. Vivienne's double dildo connected them like a living circuit, silicone warmed by their bodies, and Kim gasped as it hit a spot that made stars explode behind her eyelids.
But Aida was not finished. She reached for the new toy, the one Note had made. She twisted the ends, and the shafts split—two long, two short. Kim gasped as Aida's slick fingers circled her entrance, gently working lubricant inside, the pressure both foreign and familiar. Beside her, Vivienne's eyes fluttered closed as Aida repeated the preparation. Only then did Aida anchor the short ends into herself, one in her vagina, one in her ass, and press the long ends forward—one easing into Kim, one into Vivienne, their bodies accepting the intrusion with practiced surrender.
The micro-electrodes hummed. The feedback loop began.
Kim felt everything. Every pulse of Vivienne's pleasure, every clench of Aida's body, every shiver that ran through the connected toy. It was overwhelming, the way their sensations merged, the way she could not tell where her own pleasure ended and theirs began.
She opened her eyes.
Note was in front of her. Zhao was behind her, his hands on her hips, his breath warm on her neck. He had entered Note from behind, and Note was arching back against him, her face turned toward Kim.
Their eyes met.
Kim reached out. Note took her hand.
They kissed. Not a question, not an answer—just a statement. I am here. You are here. We are not alone.
The room moved around them. Zhao pumped harder, and Aida followed his rhythm, and Vivienne arched beneath Kim, and the toy hummed between all of them. Kim felt herself climbing, felt Note's hand tighten, felt the feedback loop build until it was a single wave crashing over all five at once.
Liquid sprayed. Bodies convulsed. Kim heard Note cry out, heard Vivienne laugh, heard Zhao groan, heard Aida whisper something in Japanese.
They held together, connected, suspended in the moment.
Then they collapsed.
#Day 28 — 23:30
The suite was quiet now. Zhao had pulled the blanket over them, and one by one, the others had drifted into sleep. Aida was curled against Note's back. Vivienne was sprawled across the foot of the bed. Zhao was somewhere in the middle, his hand on Kim's hip.
Kim lay on her side, facing Note. Note's eyes were open, watching her.
"Hi," Kim whispered.
"Hi."
They were quiet for a moment. Then Note's fingers moved, tracing the line of Kim's palm.
"I was scared," Note said. "Before. When I saw you in the workshop. I thought you would be angry."
Kim shook her head. "I was surprised. Not angry."
"I wanted to give her something. To show her that I—" Note stopped. "I don't know what I wanted."
Kim squeezed her hand. "You don't have to know."
Note smiled. It was small, tentative, but it was real.
They lay together, not speaking, not sleeping, just present. Outside, the ship hummed beneath them, carrying them south.
Kim thought of the Mother Mercy, the men who had looked at her with hope in their eyes. She thought of the women on B-Deck, lost to Alexis, and the security team trying to hold the ship together. She thought of Zhao, and his family, and the way he had said, You're not alone.
She looked at Note, still watching her, still holding her hand.
Maybe she was not.
