Chapter 1758 The Sight of the Gods
Chapter 1758 The Sight of the Gods
The God Eyes was a special, mythical trait that could only ever be unlocked by those who fundamentally knew how to wield high-tier Light magic, making it something that was incredibly rare throughout history. Due to the impossibly dense nature of Raze’s Dark core, it was a profound ocular power he could never truly obtain.
In the fundamental laws of Alterian magic, affinities naturally possessed absolute opposites. Although Raze was a genius who could still learn and adapt to almost any type of magic, because his Dark affinity was so overwhelmingly high and pure, it made it exponentially harder for his body to build any sort of connection with Light magic at all.
It was absolute polarity. To the point that even having a amount of Light magic directly at his disposal would amount to absolutely nothing. It would simply reject him, meaning there was no point in him even attempting to use it.
So, the God Eyes was never something he imagined he would ever possess. The historical claim in the ancient texts was that the God Eyes allowed a mage to physically see magic in an entirely different way than mortals.
Those blessed with the eyes could vividly see the raw flow of mana in the atmosphere. They could see exactly how magic moved and gathered even before a person would finish casting a spell or swinging a blade. They were effectively seeing into another dimension of reality that regular magic users simply couldn’t perceive. There were arrogant scholars who ignorantly thought it wasn’t anything too special—just a glorified sensory skill.
And in a lot of ways, those scholars were right… if the eyes were placed in the wrong, inexperienced hands. But the God Eyes wasn’t just a passive tool for use in learning about magic or breaking down complex magic circles. It was a terrifying combination of abilities, and depending heavily on who wielded them, it would give a master mage a monumental, insurmountable striking advantage in combat.
The five , towering vortexes of elemental magic that Idore had previously cast were suddenly summoned again. Now, they were surrounding Raze at a distance in all different directions, constantly spinning and roaring with apocalyptic power.
Because of the blinding blast of Light magic earlier, Raze’s Eternal Night Formation had completely vanished. Without the domain’s ambient shadows supporting him, it would use a considerably larger amount of his internal mana and Qi to cast his Dark Edge sword art formations. But that certainly didn’t mean he couldn’t still cast them.
Crackling, volatile Lightning magic poured around Raze’s hand, sparking against his dark blade.
‘I’ve got to strike fast before he can utilize those eyes!’ Raze thought, his muscles tensing for a supersonic sprint.
The moment he lifted up his arm to strike—no, even a microsecond before Raze had physically lifted up his arm, the moment the mana merely began to pool in his nerves—Idore reacted. From the roaring lightning vortex behind Raze, a jagged bolt of electricity came striking out with impossible precision and violently hit Raze directly on his sword arm, numbing his muscles and interrupting his cast.
Right after the shock, a geyser of white-hot flames appeared directly from the ground below his feet, ready to strike and consume him. Raze had to do absolutely everything he could just to survive. He wildly spun his body in midair, desperately using his refined Qi and Dark magic to bat away and stop the lethal attacks.
And now, Raze realized the true, horrifying reality of the God Eyes. All five of the distinct elements from the surrounding vortexes were actively attacking him at a blindingly fast rate, coming simultaneously from completely different, unpredictable angles. The magic was twirling, curving, and moving so fluidly fast that he felt exactly like he was fighting a duel against the greatest grandmaster swordsman in the world, only his opponent’s weapons were made of pure, formless elements.
Eventually, a maximum-density mass of Fire magic broke from the flaming vortex. It aggressively morphed and turned into the shape of a , soaring bird made of pure fire. It shrieked and dive-bombed Raze, who barely managed to cross and block the strike with both of his dark swords. The sheer kinetic impact and explosive heat violently pushed him backward through the air due to the overwhelming power.
Yet, Raze wasn’t getting even a single second to rest or catch his breath. The elemental magic was moving even quicker than before and was continuing to practically chase him down across the sky. Raze didn’t even have the luxury of time to think about a counter-attack, because he was just constantly, frantically defending his own life.
‘Hahaha!’ Idore thought, a psychotic smile spreading across his face as he continued to effortlessly use the absolute power of his God Eyes.
What ignorant people didn’t realize was that the God Eyes didn’t just allow you to passively see the flow of magic. By perfectly seeing the invisible threads of mana, it allowed a master mage to actively physically messwith the flow of the world’s magic as well.
He didn’t need to chant or cast spells anymore. Instead, with his God Eyes active, Idore was able to just telekinetically pull raw magic directly from the large vortexes and seamlessly move it wherever he needed it to be. He could thread the elements through the air, moving them to the exact blind spots that would give Raze the most difficulty.
And, by manipulating ambient mana in this direct, unadulterated way, he could artificially speed the projectiles up to velocities that simply couldn’t be achieved by regular casting means.
Eventually, as Raze struggled under the relentless barrage, he gritted his teeth and forcefully swept his body in a , 360-degree circle. The dense darkness trailing his blades almost looked like it had physically carved a void out of the sky. Right as he finished his rapid spin, clearing the elements away, he violently thrust his sword forward. From the very tip of the blade, a devastating, concentrated Dark Pulse shot out like a cannonball.
Yet, when the blinding pulse finally hit Idore, it simply phased right through his chest and out to the other side. His special spatial barrier had fully returned.
“You were never able to beat me before in our past, Raze, and it’s going to be the exact same ending again!” Idore mocked, his golden eyes glowing brighter.
Pulling from the five vortexes of magic once more, Idore moved in for the kill, directing a terrifying tsunami of all five elements to hit the exhausted Raze from every conceivable angle, leaving absolutely no room for escape.
Until, suddenly, several stone pillars violently lifted up from the ground below, intercepting the magical streams. Accompanied by the earth magic, a flurry of devastating, crescent-shaped Qi strikes flew through the air, violently smashing into and neutralizing the forms of magic before they could reach Raze.
Raze looked down in shock.
“Well, things are fundamentally different this time around, right?” Alba said with a fierce, bloody smile, her weapons drawn as she stood tall alongside B, Liam, and the rest of the Crimson Crane. “This time… he has us.”
