Dark Magus Returns

Chapter 1618: Who Is This (Part 1)

Chapter 1618: Who Is This (Part 1)

Now that Dame and Liam were together, the battlefield shifted for them. They had made their decision, rather quickly, in fact. Instead of charging toward the center where Raze and the Grand Magus clashed, they went around the Underside, helping anyone who was still fighting.

Both of them understood a simple truth:

Even if they were strong, even if they had powerful items, they would not be much help in a direct confrontation with the Grand Magus.

Even Liam, with a sword that could cut through anything, had struggled tremendously against a single masked Cerebus member. If that had given him trouble, then the one who commanded all of them,

He could only imagine what sort of tricks that man had up his sleeve.

Despite that reality, Liam still wore a mischievous grin as he dodged a fireball that zoomed past his face. He leaned back with a laugh, pushed his body forward, and kneed a mage straight in the stomach, lifting him off the ground before tossing him into another attacker.

“Raze has his own box of tricks!” Liam shouted, proudly. “I’d even say he’s the master trickster! He’ll be fine, he willwin this. After all, he can’t stop here. We still need his help taking down the other two Grand Magus!”

A massive explosion erupted beside him, shaking the ground. Liam hopped back to avoid falling, and turned just in time to see Dame approaching.

Dame was carrying four grown men, one hanging from each arm, before casually dropping them to the ground.

“We’ve managed to clear this area,” Dame said. “I told the mages who were fighting to head toward the shelters. It looks like most of the Underside fighters have reached their limit anyway.”

Right. That much was obvious. The Underside wasn’t meant to handle a conflict between multiple high-level mages, masked warriors, and Divine-level threats. Many of them were injured, exhausted, or overwhelmed.

“The annoying thing is that there are still people coming down from above,” Liam replied. “It’d be nice if we could get a bit of backup on our side.”

He doubted it would happen, but he said it anyway.

Dame wiped dust from his chestplate and glanced toward the direction of the central battlefield.

“If we want to make the biggest impact, we need to target the Cerebus members directly,” Dame said. “I doubt they’re as difficult as the one we dealt with, but they’ll still be strong.”

“Right,” Liam agreed. “They went after the Dark Guild, correct? Throw me up in the air, and I should be able to locate them.”

“Fine,” Dame said. “Just don’t break your neck.”

Liam ran forward. Dame planted both feet and braced himself. As Liam jumped, Dame caught him midair and heaved him upward with full force.

Liam shot high, so high he nearly hit the ceiling of the Underside and breached into the level above.

While airborne, he turned his head, scanning the battlefield. It was his system that analyzed the chaos below, mapping everything he could see and interpreting it instantly.

By the time he landed back on shattered stone, Liam’s expression had shifted dramatically.

“What did you see?” Dame asked immediately. “Is Raze in trouble?”

“Raze is definitely fighting,” Liam said. “But it’s hard to say whether he’s in trouble or not. What I did notice was something else.”

He paused.

“I think we might have received some backup.”

Dame raised an eyebrow.

“My system identified him, Alen,” Liam explained. “He must have arrived with his group.”

Dame let out a breath that sounded somewhere between a laugh and a sigh.

“Alen really did seem like a soft person,” Dame said. “Even though he’s military, he sticks to his code. I can admire someone like that.”

“They’re moving through the Underside and rescuing whoever they can,” Liam continued. “Safa’s with them too, healing the others. So we don’t have to worry about those areas anymore.”

He leaned forward slightly, lowering his voice.

“When I checked on the other Cerebus members, they’re concentrated not far from here. They’re fighting the Dark Guild. But…”

“But?” Dame urged.

Liam frowned.

“There’s someone else fighting against them as well. I think it’s… Beatrix? But even my system wasn’t sure.”

Dame blinked. “Your system wasn’t sure?”

“Exactly. That’s what’s worrying.” Liam scratched his head. “If my system can’t recognize her, something is definitely strange.”

Regardless, Liam didn’t stand still. He took off running and Dame followed closely behind, their pace fast enough to tear through loose stone and rubble beneath them.

They soon reached the area where the fighting was loudest.

Buildings had been smashed into chunks. Walls were partially melted. Flames, dark smoke, and traces of magic were scattered across the scene. Several Dark Guild mages were directing their attacks toward two Cerebus members.

Dark pulses hammered into the masked figures. Magic blasts ripped through the air. Each attack damaged the Cerebus members, tearing through flesh or breaking limbs,

But they healed rapidly.

They weren’t like the masked elite who fought Raze or Liam earlier. Their bodies were more physical. Their magic more straightforward. But they were still incredibly hard to kill.

One of the Cerebus members raised his hand. A massive beam of energy formed above his head, bright, condensed, deadly.

Before the beam could fire,

A red blur sliced through the air.

Liam appeared behind the Cerebus member and cut the beam of energy clean in half with the All Cutting Sword.

The energy split, fizzled, and evaporated.

Dame arrived a split second later. With one fluid motion, he grabbed the Cerebus member by both arms, lifted him like a sack of grain, and slammed him into the ground so hard the shockwave knocked nearby stones into the air.

Liam swung his sword once more and turned toward the remaining enemies.

“Alright!” Liam shouted boldly. “Time to clear up the rest of them!”

His eyes glimmered with excitement.

Dame cracked his knuckles.
