Chapter 1608: Alternative energy
Chapter 1608: Alternative energy
Liam was completely lost on the concept of this mysterious Red Mode, but he reminded himself that the system had not failed him so far. In fact, all it had done was consistently make his fights exponentially easier ever since he had acquired the latest iteration. What, he reasoned, was the harm in relying on it again, especially when his life hung in the balance?
He mentally confirmed his decision, pushing past the confusion and desperation:
(Yes)
The system immediately responded with an unexpected and utterly frustrating requirement:
(You have not used red mode before, the user must go through a tutorial before Red Mode can be activated)
For a critical moment, Liam stopped dead still, his movements freezing as he stared at the infuriating message that appeared in his vision.
“A tutorial now of all times, are you kidding me!” he shouted, his voice a mix of disbelief and sheer exasperation at the system’s untimely rigidness.
His brief moment of stunned, verbal reaction cost him dearly. His body was then violently blasted by a large golden energy stream launched by the Masked Man. He managed to block the direct, core impact with his System Sword, but the force was absolutely tremendous and had enough power to push his arms away, the residual energy then hitting his body with crippling force. His body flipped as it was hit by the beam. He landed on the ground but quickly pushed himself up off the floor.
Part of his skin had been ripped off, almost burnt, but the nano bots embedded in his body were instantly doing their complex job as they were beginning to patch up his body. When Liam landed on the ground again, he stomped his foot in the trash pile. He had done so with major, focused force, and expertly controlled his internal Qi so it would almost tip a large amount of trash to appear in front of them, creating an impromptu avalanche of debris.
Once again he was creating a barrier between the two of them because he desperately needed more time to deal with the system’s ridiculous demands.
I have no idea how long this tutorial is going to take. And it’s hard enough trying to fight this guy with everything I have, using all my strength and techniques, never mind just following a tutorial! I need to just stay low for a moment, let him search, and hope this system explains itself quickly.
When the trash heap eventually fell back down, the masked man looked ahead and he was unable to see his opponent.
“Whats this, did you run away?” The masked man taunted, his voice echoing with mocking disbelief. “You finally decided to give up and run away? After realizing you couldn’t beat me?”
The masked man looked around the desolate place. There weren’t many buildings in sight, just smaller mounds of the unsorted objects they were standing on.
“No that can’t be it, you couldn’t have ran away so fast, that means’ right now, you must be hiding!” The masked man struck out his hand and a large golden beam of energy went out, hitting a pile.
It flung items everywhere while some of the items had been destroyed completely, but it was quite clear that Liam wasn’t there.
“You know it’s only a matter of time until I find you, hiding is pretty useless.” With both of his hands, the masked man had hit out beams again, methodically destroying several large piles. Meanwhile, Liam’s heart was racing furiously beneath the remaining debris.
Damn it, why couldn’t for once these guys be a bit stupid? Maybe I did run off, I mean it would make sense right, at least it would for me? Just assume I’m gone!
Regardless, Liam now had to stop panicking and focus entirely on what this mandatory, life-threatening tutorial was.
(The current Red System, it is the most advanced system out there.)
“YEs, yes do you really need to tell me all of these details!” Liam was clearly getting frustrated by the self-congratulatory preamble.
(To be able to use the full capabilities of the Red System, an external energy source is needed? The tutorial can’t fully begin until an energy source is being used.)
Now you’re asking me for an energy source? Liam thought, the demand making no immediate, logical sense in the middle of a battle zone.
Liam was thinking back to Zon and Red from before, what was different about them compared to him. He seemed to remember that Zon had upgraded his crystal when killing a high tier beast in the past.
To use power stones? But I don’t have any power stones, and didn’t they insert it into their body, I can’t do that? He rejected the idea instantly.
Liam was racking his head hard, while he could hear the constant, destructive beams of energy still coming from above, getting closer and closer to his exact position.
“Arghh!” The masked Cerebus member shouted, his frustration boiling over as he continued his fruitless search. “Where are you?” He had destroyed every mound that was in the nearby vicinity but had still found no signs of him, and that’s when a terrifying thought occurred to him.
“I know where you are, I know exactly where you are!” The Cerebus member flapped their wings and started to rise up in the sky, gaining altitude. And then looking down, it started to gather all of its potent energy, focusing it at the large mound that was directly underneath his flight path.
“You were right beneath me all along!” A giant, terrifying ray of energy shot out, hitting the large mound with full force. When it hit the mound, several objects were chucked up high in the air, and were flying all over the place while a large part of it was being destroyed.
That was the exact, decisive moment when a defensive, powerful red beam of energy came out of the epicenter of the destruction, hitting the golden energy back. The two colossal beams of energy collided violently, pushing against each other in a stalemate until both of the energies stopped, canceled out by the opposing force.
(An alternative energy source has been found)
