Chapter 472: Chapter 381: A Letter from Qing Chan, Wandering Dragon Body Technique

“Where did this come from?” Chen Ping’an studied the letter in his hand. It was sealed with confidential wax, clearly of a high grade.

“My lord, the letter came from Beicang Town, through the Beicang Garrison’s channels,” the man replied respectfully.

After Chen Ping’an’s promotion to Deputy Commander-in-Chief, he was naturally assigned a few Stewards as his direct subordinates to help him handle daily official business and other miscellaneous tasks.

“Alright, I understand.” Chen Ping’an waved his hand. “You’re dismissed.”

“Yes, my lord!” The man bowed respectfully, then backed away and departed. Before he left, he softly closed the door to the office for Chen Ping’an.

‘The Beicang Garrison’s channels!’

Looking at the letter, Chen Ping’an had already guessed the sender’s identity.

Just as he was about to open the letter, another knock came from the door.

“My lord!”

“What is it?” Chen Ping’an’s voice held an innate authority.

“Lord Fan requests your presence. He says it’s for an important matter!”

“Alright.” Chen Ping’an glanced at the letter in his hand, broke the wax seal, took out the paper, and began to read.

Normally, when a superior issued a summons, a subordinate was expected to go at once.

However, for Chen Ping’an, whether or not to comply ultimately depended on his mood.

A hint of joy spread across Chen Ping’an’s face as he read. Only after finishing the letter did he finally rise and head for Fan Zheng Heng’s office.

…

“Ping’an, come, have a seat!” Fan Zheng Heng greeted him enthusiastically as soon as he saw him enter.

Chen Ping’an thanked him and took a seat.

There was no one else in the office—only him and Fan Zheng Heng.

“To what important matter do I owe this summons, my lord?” Chen Ping’an asked with a smile.

Fan Zheng Heng lifted a teapot as fine as jade, poured himself a cup, then one for Chen Ping’an. “It’s nothing too urgent,” he said with a smile. “I was just thinking, you’ve just been promoted, and we haven’t had a chance to really talk. I’m free today, so I thought we could have a chat. Managing this massive Weishui Garrison will depend on the two of us working in concert.”

For Chen Ping’an’s direct superior, Fan Zheng Heng’s tone was remarkably humble. Moreover, he intentionally or unintentionally excluded Liu Yuanhua, implicitly positioning Chen Ping’an as the true second-in-command of the Weishui Garrison.

“If my lord commands, I will naturally obey,” Chen Ping’an said with a smile, accepting the teacup.

‘When we first met, Fan Zheng Heng was polite, but not like this. His current deference is probably related to something mentioned in the letter I just read.’

Sure enough, after a few pleasantries, Fan Zheng Heng steered the conversation toward Chen Ping’an.

“Ping’an, at such a young age, you’ve already been promoted to Deputy Commander-in-Chief. That rate of advancement is unheard of, even across the entire Canglong Province, making you the best of the best. It’s no exaggeration to call you a dragon among men! This time, you’ve brought great honor to our Weishui Garrison. For that, I truly must thank you.”

“You praise me too highly, my lord. It is all thanks to your favor.”

“No need for modesty, Ping’an. You’ve reached this point through your own outstanding abilities! Not only have you performed one great service after another, but your talent in the Martial Dao is simply extraordinary. To be ranked fifth among the new generation at only twenty-two… it’s truly breathtaking!”

Fan Zheng Heng spoke in a warm and pleasant tone, his words filled with praise for Chen Ping’an, bordering on effusive.

“Ping’an, you hold a high rank, wield great power, and have even won the favor of the noble lady of the Gu Family. Power and beauties, all within your grasp! Wielding a sword to slay your foes by day, resting your head in a beauty’s lap by night… I can’t imagine how many people envy such a life, how many would kill to take your place! But what a pity for them. No matter how much they yearn for it, you’re the only one who gets to enjoy it all! Hahaha…”

“Speaking of which, Ping’an, when do you plan on marrying the noble lady of the Gu Family? Once you set a date, be sure to let me know in advance. As the Capital Envoy, I’ll have to prepare a generous gift to congratulate you,” Fan Zheng Heng said, teasing Chen Ping’an with a smile.

He sounded like he was joking, but his words carried a subtle, probing intent.

“My lord, this business about the Gu Family’s daughter is nothing more than baseless street gossip. It shouldn’t be taken seriously,” Chen Ping’an replied with a smile, taking a light sip from his teacup.

“Ping’an, you are held in high esteem by Elder Gu of the Ice Soul Silver Needle. The talk of a Gu Family marriage is surely not baseless. Your silence on the matter suggests good news is on the horizon!” Fan Zheng Heng chuckled, his tone laced with amusement.

‘He really is probing me! The old fox! His intelligence network is surprisingly fast.’

Chen Ping’an cursed inwardly upon hearing Fan Zheng Heng’s words.

The letter he’d just received was from Gu Qingchan. Besides the initial congratulations, it primarily mentioned two things.

The first was a response to a favor he had asked of her. She was about to return to Canglong State City and could take Chen Erya with her. Gu Qingchan had thus agreed to handle the matter of the little girl’s schooling there. The letter stated she would be arriving in Weishui County City in a few days and that Chen Ping’an should make preparations.

The second matter was the real reason for Fan Zheng Heng’s indirect probing. Gu Qingchan had broken through to the Mid-Jade Balance Stage, taking another huge step forward in the Grandmaster Realm!

Across all of Canglong State, Grandmasters were already rare. Those who had reached the Mid-Jade Balance Stage were rarer still.

Without a doubt, now that Gu Qingchan had broken through to the Mid-Jade Balance Stage, her prestige, status, and influence would all undergo a significant transformation.
