Dao of the World Walker (Xianxia) Book 2
Chapter 240: Life Long Wish
Thankfully, Senior Shao You finally came to his senses and instead of staring like a fool, grabbed Little Uncle before he could hit his head on the table or worse the floor.
“Senior, let's help Little Uncle lie down.” Yang urged as he reached out by reflex and grabbed hold of Little Uncle’s arm.
Senior seemed to agree as without a word he scooped up his Master, placing one arm under his knees and the other behind his back. Yang reached out to support his head..
He hurriedly led the Senior to his bed, giving no mind to the manuals and talisman supplies scattered around.
As Senior laid Little Uncle on the bed, Yang was suddenly reminded of his large collection of pills and quickly retrieved a basic healing pill.
“Senior,” Yang said raising his hand to show the small round pill pinched between his fingers, “this a basic healing pill made by my Senior Brother Fan Xiao, it will help replenish Little Uncle’s qi and vitality.”
Senior looked unsure but Yang went ahead and reached with his other hand to open Little Uncle's mouth, only to find in his worry he was still clutching the steaming cup of tea. He quickly placed it aside on the bed and used his now free hand to part open Little Uncle’s mouth and pushed in the small pill.
He slid his hand behind the neck to tilt the head up to help the medicine go down, Wanting to make the process smoother he reached for the cup of tea and brought it to Little Uncle’s lip to help wash the pill down.
The combination of the pill and tea seemed to be working as Uncle’s body went rigid and his eyes started fluttering. Yang helped pour a bit more tea down his throat but immediately stopped once he noticed it dribbling out of the sides of his mouth and Uncle starting to choke.
“Master!” Senior called out, his expression worried as he reached closer prompting Yang to take a step back.
Little Uncle’s eyes were wide and he was still coughing and retching a bit. “Little Uncle, there is still half a cup of tea here. Take a sip. It will soothe your throat.”
The coughing stopped instantly as Little Uncle froze. Yang became terrified, thinking his condition was worsening. But Little Uncle gave him a weak smile as he reassured him.
“Fret not, Nephew Chen Yang. I seem to be feeling better.” His gaze shifted to the still raised cup in hand beholding it with a weird expression as he assured Yang. “Your pill and…tea seemed to have really revitalised me.”
“There is no need for thanks, Little Uncle.” Yang smiled demurely. “It was my filial duty as your junior.” Yang's gaze turned anxious. “Should I look for a healer? Maybe Senior Brother Fan Xiao? I am afraid I have no healing skills.”
Little Uncle’s eyes became glassy even as he kept the gentle smile on his face. “There is nothing anyone can do for me, Nephew. This is an old illness and I am grateful for each extra day I get to live.” He shook his head mournfully. “If it weren’t for Master and the people of the sect scouring the lands to gather precious pills and treasures to prolong my life, I would have left the world long ago.”
Yang looked sympathetic but remained quiet. It must be excruciating constantly living with an illness and having to rely on external factors to survive.
“Whoosh!”
At the sudden whoosh of the air, Yang turned to see Senior Brother Qing An burst through the door of his bed chamber, quickly followed by Senior Brother Lu Feng.
Yang blinked in surprise to see his usually well put together brothers looking flushed and with a few stray hairs coming loose from their topknots.
“Senior Brothers.” Yang straight away turned towards them and greeted them. Such etiquette can’t be disregarded especially in front of outsiders.
“Junior Brother.” Senior Brother Lu Feng barely cast a glance at Yang before his attention shifted towards the bed.
“Uncle Zi Ang.” Senior Brother came forward and stood in front of Little Uncle giving the bow of a junior followed by Senior Brother Qing An and then a bow of head and acknowledgement to the person behind him. “Senior Shao You.”
“Lu Feng, Qing An,” Little Uncle’s smile widened as his gaze shifted between his newly arrived Senior Brothers. “It warms my heart to see you in good health.”
Senior Brother Lu Feng offered a tentative smile as he looked at Little Uncle half lying down in Yang’s bed. “It also pleases me to see you…here.”
Little Uncle sat up straight as he got a beaming smile on his face. “I knew you would be pleased to see me after all we are practically family.”
Senior Brother Lu Feng’s smile turned strange and Yang felt a pang in his hurt as he realised he may have invited trouble in their midst.
His panic must have been showing on his face because he felt a shoe bump into his feet and looked up to see Senior Brother Qing An giving him an assuring look.
“I hope you will forgive my Junior Brother if he offended you,” Senior Brother Lu Feng said. “He is young and still has much to learn.”
Little Uncle sat up straighter. “Nephew Yang, was perfect. He even offered me tea and later his bed when I fainted.”
“Did he?” Yang saw Senior Brother looking at him from the corner of his eyes.
“Indeed.” Little Uncle stood up and straightened the creases off his robes. “He was most accommodating.”
“That is good.” Senior Brother Lu Feng’s voice turned perfunctory. “Let us move to the seating area, if you are feeling well enough Little Uncle.”
“I am.” Little Uncle nodded as he moved towards the main room, leaving all of them to follow behind him.
He really treats this as his place.
Little Uncle took back the main seat with the Senior standing behind him and Senior Brother Lu Feng and Qing An sitting on either side of him.
Senior Brother Qing An patted the seat next to him without looking at Yang and he scurried over to settle down wondering if he had made trouble for his brothers but even now Yang wasn’t sure what else he could have done.
This was clearly a person one generation above them. The relation was true, that had been proven by his Senior Brother’s greeting and he as a Junior didn’t dare offend.
Senior Brother Qing An let out a charming grin as he leaned back in his seat. “What brings you here Little Uncle? After all the fun had ended.”
Little Uncle’s smile went deeper. “I did read the reports. It's a pity—” Then his expression turned serious as he clutched his chest and coughed a few times. “Augh! Augh!”
“Its just a pity I would never be able to deal with such dangers with my health and pill created cultivation.” He said with a self-depreceating smile followed by another bout of coughs.
Senior Brother Lu Feng looked sympathetically at him. “I am sure if you wished to venture into such places, fortune would favour you just as it had in the hundreds of secret realms you have been to before.”
Yang almost choked on his spit as he comprehended Senior Brother’s words. Thankfully, the noise was covered by the perfectly timed coughing sound, courtesy of Little Uncle.
Senior Brother Lu Feng waited for the latest bout of coughing to run its course before he asked, “Are you here to assume command over the camp?”
Little Uncle smiled pitifully. “A sickly person like me taking command, wouldn’t that be just wronging the people of our sect.”
Little Uncle ruefully shook his head. “No, I merely heard from Xiao Zhan that some of you may be venturing towards the Starry Sea.” His expression turned embarrassed. “I just followed some elders here hoping you may let me accompany you to just see the view. I have always wished to set my gaze upon the Starry Sea before the end of my inevitably short life.”
Yang felt Senior Brother Qing An froze next to him as Senior Brother Lu Feng’s eyes twitched.
