Chapter 622 529: Ye Liyuan Is Willing to Fall into Demonhood to Save Ah Han

  • Next Chapter

In Lan City, by the Endless Sea.

Pei Yuhang, the "Riding Monarch," pushed aside the once-again unconscious Ji Shenyun. He walked to the windowsill and took the letter delivered by a Spirit Bird.

His brow furrowed slightly after he read its contents.

The letter contained the latest war reports gathered by Nangong Jin and Qing Yueqiu.

Not long ago, Ji Shenyun had appeared out of nowhere and slain two Mahayana Demon Venerables along with a host of Demon Race troops, dealing a great blow to the demons' vitality.

Perhaps the Demon Race had learned that a Great Power was protecting Lan City, as the nearby sea had been remarkably calm in the days that followed.

However, this didn't mean all the coastal cities were so peaceful. The situation elsewhere had already spiraled out of control.

The Demon Race's military forces were rapidly gathering at the defensive lines of other cities, and brutal conflicts had already broken out in many places.

According to Nangong Jin, news of a coastal city falling arrived every other day. The situation was, to say the least, dire.

It seemed that with the approach of a certain day, the Demon Race could no longer restrain themselves. After receiving support from the Chosen Organization's Undead Army, they had mobilized in full force, desperate to uproot the "nails" the Human Race had embedded along the Endless Sea's front lines.

Meanwhile, the major Sect Sacred Lands, situated deep inland, had also finished their preparations and were now leading fleets of Spiritual Power Battleships toward the Endless Sea.

This included not only the Righteous Dao, but even the Demon Path Sacred Lands. After all, the conflict between the Righteous and Demonic Daos was merely an internal struggle within the Human Race.

The Chosen Organization and the Demon Race, however, wished to welcome back the soul of a deceased Innate Divine Spirit exiled in the Abyss Rift—an act that would mean the annihilation of the entire Human Race, and perhaps all life in the Cultivation Realm.

Even though Demonic Cultivators were accustomed to treating human life as disposable, when faced with true madmen like the Chosen Organization, they would set aside their grudges and stand with the Righteous Sects.

"A great war is coming..."

Pei Yuhang's lips tightened. He glanced back at Ji Shenyun's flawless body, feeling a surge of irritation and shame.

'I'm a Mahayana Sword Cultivator,' he thought, 'but instead of rushing to the battlefield to save those city dwellers from their plight, I'm stuck here day after day, tumbling in the sheets with this foreign tyrant.'

'What kind of mess is this?!'

'But... while she was lost in her passion, I tried to place the Seed Demon Seal on her. It seems she didn't notice...'

At this thought, Pei Yuhang gave her a deep, searching look.

As if sensing his resentment, Ji Shenyun's long lashes trembled, and she slowly opened her eyes, which were as deep as the abyss.

Her Divine Sense swept over the letter in his hand like flowing water. The corner of her mouth twitched almost imperceptibly before her indifferent expression returned.

"You see the Human Race's cities falling and wish to go to the battlefield?"

"That's right. Not just me, but Yueqiu and Junior Sister Nangong, too. The situation is dire, yet you keep me by your side all day for your own pleasure. What exactly are you trying to do?"

Having spent so much time with her, he had long since figured out her limits—her tolerance for him was far greater than he had imagined.

So, Pei Yuhang didn't bother being polite.

A faint blush crept up the tips of Ji Shenyun's ears. She turned her face away, cleared her throat, and said with feigned composure:

"I am not 'indulging in pleasure.' I am cultivating with you to advance our strength, merely preparing to bring our physical conditions to their peak before the Abyssal Sea Palace opens."

As she spoke, her eyes turned cold, and her voice deepened. "Besides, what does it matter how fiercely they fight out there?

You may care about the lives of those Human Race defenders, but I certainly do not!

There is absolutely no need for me to let you intervene and risk exposing my whereabouts before the Abyssal Sea Palace opens."

Ji Shenyun slowly walked toward Pei Yuhang until their noses were almost touching, so close they could feel the sweet, warm moisture of each other's breath.

"Remember, as the man I have reluctantly acknowledged, you are different now."

"If you want to be a player like me, and not a pawn, you must learn to be the oriole that waits behind the mantis stalking its prey!"

"Hmph."

Pei Yuhang pushed Ji Shenyun's hand away and turned his head, refusing to look at her.

He gazed at the blue sky outside the window and thought:

'The great war is coming. Qianqian, Liyuan, and Senior Sister... will they be swept into the battlefield too? If that happens, how can I possibly stand aside!'

...

...

「Broken Wind Mountain, within the Main Base of Yama Hall.」

Inside the dim, gloomy hall, candlelight flickered, making the sinister reliefs on the walls seem alive.

Bei Lingyin stepped cautiously inside, her boots making muffled sounds on the icy floor.

After successfully bringing back the Blood Skull Chalice, Bei Lingyin's status in Yama Hall had been elevated. She now had the qualifications to meet the mysterious Hall Master, just like the Left and Right Guardians.

This was her first time stepping into the core Forbidden Land of Yama Hall, and her first time... coming face-to-face with the legendary Hall Master.

She lowered her head slightly, but couldn't stop her gaze from darting upward out of the corner of her eye—

On the towering throne sat a figure, majestic and still.

The person was clad in a black robe with dark patterns and wore a black iron Yama mask. The ferocious demonic face glinted coldly in the candlelight.

From beneath the mask, a pair of crimson eyes slowly opened, like two drops of congealed blood, stabbing straight at Bei Lingyin.

"...!"

Bei Lingyin's breath caught in her throat, and a sudden chill shot up her spine.

Those eyes... that crimson...

It felt sinister and cold, yet carried a certain indescribable familiarity.

'Why is it so similar to the aura of the Blood Skull Chalice?'

Bei Lingyin's pupils contracted, and her fingertips trembled involuntarily.

'Could it be... the Hall Master has already absorbed the power from that Demon Race's chalice?!'

The moment the thought appeared, she forcefully suppressed it.

'No, impossible...'

The Demon Race had worshipped that half-skull, which looked like a piece of red crystal. Even they themselves couldn't withstand the Holy Blood brewing within it and had to dilute it several times over before consuming it.
