Daddy, Come Home For Dinner!

Chapter 1201: Chapter 1201: A Bit of Overpowered Output
"Last night, he was sick again and threw up on our couch cushion. I took it to the cleaners first thing this morning," said Mrs. Li. "He woke up with a splitting headache and skipped breakfast."
"I was worried he’d feel awful and couldn’t eat, so I made him some clear soup noodles using bone broth, with just bok choy and egg. I didn’t even dare to add a bit of minced meat. He still couldn’t eat it." Mrs. Li snorted.
"Last night, he shamelessly claimed he wanted to witness Ding Li’s drinking game." After seeing Zhao Dingli’s prowess with alcohol, Mrs. Li felt more at ease, so she spoke openly without hiding anything from Zhao Dingli.
"When he woke up this morning, I showed your dad how drunk the two of them were last night—who exactly was testing whom, huh?" said Mrs. Li.
Mr. Li: "..."
Honestly, it was extremely embarrassing.
"Dad, are you feeling better now?" Li Xiaoyun asked again.
"Much better. Your mom gave me some hangover medicine, and I drank some honey water—I’m feeling much better now," replied Mr. Li.
Seeing that Mr. Li looked better, Li Xiaoyun was relieved.
Mr. Li whispered to Mrs. Li, "When Zhao’s elders arrive, don’t mention that I challenged Zhao Dingli to drink. They’ll overhear and won’t be pleased."
Mrs. Li whispered back, "You realize what you did wasn’t quite right, huh? What if Dingli has already spoken about it?"
Mr. Li: "..."
Mrs. Li laughed, "Look at how scared you are. Anyway, I trust that Dingli isn’t the type to gossip."
Someone like Zhao Dingli, who seems so mature, would he really do such a thing?
Mr. Li added more sincerely, "If he wants to court our daughter, he wouldn’t dare do that."
Mrs. Li retorted, "Stop bragging. I find Dingli quite nice. He likes Xiao Yun, not you, so you’d better take it easy."
Mr. Li pouted; it’s not that he disliked Zhao Dingli.
It’s just that no father would be thrilled about someone taking away their daughter.
Not long after, the Zhao family’s elders arrived.
Zhao Guoxian was behind, pushing the wheelchair for the third elder.
Seeing them, Mr. Li and Mrs. Li quickly stood up.
"Elder Zhao, Madam, Third Elder."
After Zhao Dingli’s introduction, Mr. Li and Mrs. Li greeted them first.
The third elder, having heard Zhao Dingli call them ’Uncle and Aunt’, immediately said, "Why call them ’Uncle and Aunt’? That’s too formal. You’re about to get engaged; call them ’Mom and Dad’!"
Mr. Li: "..."
Mrs. Li: "..."
They initially thought only Zhao’s grandma was like this.
Turns out, everyone is like this?
Zhao Dingli smoothly called them, "Dad, Mom."
Mr. Li and Mrs. Li braced themselves and managed to respond.
The third elder waved to Li Xiaoyun, "Xiao Yun."
"Elder," Li Xiaoyun called out.
"Look, Dingli has already changed how he’s addressing them, and you haven’t changed yet?" the third elder laughed.
Ye Fei secretly tugged at Zhao Gushen, "Why has Third Grandpa suddenly become so formidable?"
"The grandmother gave him a pep talk," Zhao Gushen whispered. "Plus, last time when Xiao Yun visited the old house, Third Grandpa didn’t have the chance to show his prowess, so now he’s determined to step up and not lose out."
"..." Ye Fei clicked her tongue, "Last time, Third Grandpa really couldn’t do much, but today he’s going all out."
Zhao Gushen said gleefully, "We’re just here for the show today."
Ye Fei laughed along but felt uneasy after a couple of seconds—Li Xiaoyun was her best friend after all; she shouldn’t laugh so heartily, she should laugh more modestly.
As they watched the situation unfold, Ye Fei felt a tug on her hand.
She looked down to see the little one staring up at them.
"What’s up?" Ye Fei asked.
Since they were so tall, and the little one was so short, the height difference meant they couldn’t whisper.
Afraid they couldn’t hear, the little one spoke loudly, "Mom, should I change and start calling Aunt Four Grandma?"
The little one’s loud voice resonated throughout the room while Li Xiaoyun struggled to muster the embarrassment to call "Dad." Meanwhile, the little one’s booming question echoed across the room.
Li Xiaoyun’s face turned bright red.
"Four Grandma, of course, call her Four Grandma," Zhao’s grandmother chuckled.
Their Xiao Mo was really impressive.
Such an effective helper!
"Four Grandma!" the little one casually changed address.
Previously calling her Aunt, now Four Grandma—truly without any discomfort.
Li Xiaoyun: "..."
She expected to feel awkward hearing the little one call her that.
Yet surprisingly, it felt perfectly normal.
"Xiao Mo has already changed the address, Xiao Yun, you see..." Grandma Zhao hinted.
"Dad," Li Xiaoyun said blushing.
"Great, great." The third elder’s face beamed with joy; as he laughed, tears began to well up.
The unexpected turn of emotion surprised everyone.
"Don’t panic, don’t worry," the third elder blinked, forcing the tears back.
His eyes remained slightly red, showing how close he was to shedding more.
"I’m just overjoyed," the third elder said, moved. "I never thought at this age I’d see Ding Li getting married."
"Ding Li is my late-born son. I’ve always hoped I could hold on, hold on until he gets married. As for bearing me a grandchild, I don’t dare hope for that anymore. I might not be able to wait until then, nor do I want to pressure him into getting married and having kids just so I can glimpse a grandson."
"We’re very much alike, this father and son of ours. He has his own convictions too—he’d rather stay single if he’s not interested; he won’t settle for less. And so it’s dragged on till now," the third elder sighed. "I had lost hope, watching him grow older. I was ready to accept that he might stay single all his life."
"Who would’ve thought I’d still be blessed enough to see him having a fiancée?" The third elder extended his thumb, closed his eyes, and wiped his eyes twice to clean the tears from his eyelids.
Mrs. Li, being sentimental, felt a pang in her heart hearing the third elder speak.
"Elder, don’t say that! You’re lucky," Mrs. Li hurriedly said. "As for Ding Li’s character and abilities, they need no praise—he’s extraordinarily excellent, I’m sure you’ve heard all the compliments countless times."
"You’ll not only see him engaged but also married, and play with the grandchildren too!" Mrs. Li encouraged.
"Hopefully," the third elder sighed, "I’m not greedy. I’m already very happy with how things are now."
