Chapter 1189: Chapter 1189: We’re All Family, So Why Pretend to Be a Big Bad Wolf?

"He’s the kind of husband who always goes along with whatever his wife says, never contradicting her." The elderly lady said, "Whatever the wife says, it’s always right. You can rest assured about that."

Mrs. Li: "..."

This elderly lady really knows how to talk.

She took all the words right out of Mrs. Li’s mouth, leaving her feeling quite bitter inside.

This was like forcing a marriage!

"The two of them just couldn’t possibly argue." Li Xiaoyun always agrees with whatever is said, so how could they possibly have an argument!

Mrs. Li completely gave up trying to argue, and asked directly, "So what are your plans?"

The elderly lady had already mentioned that they could date and get to know each other first, without rushing into marriage, and Mrs. Li finally let out a small sigh of relief.

But her intuition told her that things wouldn’t be that simple.

Sure enough, the elderly lady continued, "They could get engaged first! After all, being engaged isn’t the same as being married, they can still date."

Mrs. Li: "..."

Listen to what you’re saying.

But who says you can’t date even after getting married?

But Mrs. Li was too intimidated to say it out loud.

"Once they’re engaged, we can feel more at ease." The elderly lady explained, "You see, our Dingli will have a fiancée, and Xiaoyun will have a fiancé, and they can get married at any time. How reassuring that is!" ℯℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

To be fair, what the elderly lady said was quite tempting to Mrs. Li.

She’s been anxious all along, isn’t it all for Li Xiaoyun’s marriage?

Now there’s finally a prospect, and such a rare opportunity at that.

Being engaged does indeed bring more peace of mind.

However, although Mrs. Li was anxious, as soon as Li Xiaoyun had a partner, Mrs. Li suddenly wasn’t in a rush anymore.

She’d much prefer Li Xiaoyun take her time and get to know the other person well.

To avoid regrets after the marriage.

No matter how good the other person’s outward conditions, they need to be compatible with Li Xiaoyun.

"Alright." Mrs. Li eventually agreed.

They’ll find a day for the two families to officially sit down together.

Who would’ve known, the elderly lady then said, "In that case, why don’t we come over to your place today?"

Mrs. Li: "..."

"You all? Are you saying, you and the old gentleman, as well as Dingli’s father?" Mrs. Li tentatively asked.

She desperately hoped it wasn’t as she feared.

She wasn’t mentally prepared yet, the pressure was too great.

"Yes, isn’t Dingli over at your place today? Well, that’s perfect; let’s meet together!" The elderly lady said cheerfully.

Eager to settle the matter today if possible.

Mrs. Li: "..."

How... how could she refuse? It was hard to turn them down.

But this was all too sudden.

It’s not that she didn’t want them to come over.

But they at least needed to tidy up the house a bit, right?

Moreover, their plans would be disrupted; the food they bought might not suffice, and she’d need to rush to the market again.

Mrs. Li was already planning her next steps in her mind.

Then the elderly lady backtracked, "However, coming over suddenly today would indeed be too abrupt, and it would mess up your plans for the day. That would be too impolite."

Mrs. Li: "..."

Then she heard the elderly lady suggest, "Why don’t we meet tomorrow instead?"

"You see, tomorrow’s Sunday, we’ll all have the time, and the kids will be off work. It’d be a great chance for our families to sit down for a meal and finalize the engagement." The elderly lady proposed.

"That sounds good too." Mrs. Li said reluctantly.

"Then it’s settled." The elderly lady happily concluded, "Tomorrow at 11:30 AM, we’ll meet at Shengyue! Just mention Dingli’s name when you arrive, and they’ll take you to the room."

The elderly lady had even decided on the time.

If she claimed this was a last-minute decision, Mrs. Li wouldn’t believe it.

She felt she’d been outsmarted by the elderly lady.

"Is lunchtime alright?" The elderly lady inquired further.

"No problem." Mrs. Li felt she had no choice but to agree.

She figured if she refused, the elderly lady probably had many more strategies up her sleeve.

"We’re getting old and used to going to bed early. I worry if we set it for the evening, we won’t have much time to chat." The elderly lady explained.

"Noon is perfect, giving us the whole afternoon to talk, with plenty of time." The elderly lady continued.

"That sounds great." Mrs. Li’s mind was already blank.

She agreed to everything the elderly lady suggested.

"Alright, let’s call it settled then." The elderly lady finally wrapped up the conversation.

Mrs. Li now felt utterly exhausted: "I’ll return the phone to Dingli then."

"Alright, sure."

Mrs. Li handed the phone back to Zhao Dingli, unable to utter another word.

Zhao Dingli, just holding the phone to his ear: "Second Aunt."

"Alright, everything’s settled. Tomorrow we’re going to Shengyue to discuss the engagement." The elderly lady told him, "Since we’re not here today, make sure you act wisely at Xiaoyun’s place!"

Zhao Dingli: "..."

Was it all settled just like that?

How on earth did the elderly lady manage that conversation?

He really wanted to learn from her.

"Alright, hanging up now." The elderly lady said.

Having secured her daughter-in-law, Zhao Dingli suddenly seemed less special to her.

The elderly lady didn’t even want to say another word to Zhao Dingli.

And ended the call quite ruthlessly.

Zhao Dingli: "..."

Mrs. Li asked Zhao Dingli, "Hung up already? Didn’t chat more with the elder lady?"

Mrs. Li wanted to see how others fared chatting with the elderly lady, to see if they also ended up being led around by the nose.

If so, she’d feel much more at ease.

"There’s nothing left to say, so we hung up." Zhao Dingli replied.

Mrs. Li: "..."

So was she the only one outmaneuvered?

"What did the elder lady say for so long just now?" Mr. Li asked curiously.

Originally, Mr. Li wasn’t thrilled about Li Xiaoyun getting taken away so quickly.

He was quite wary of Zhao Dingli.

Now Mrs. Li felt even more guilty.

"The elder lady just mentioned tomorrow our two families would go to a hotel, sit down and chat..." Mrs. Li said with some difficulty, "About Dingli and Xiaoyun’s engagement."

Mr. Li: "..."

"Engagement... engagement?" Mr. Li was stunned, "How did it get to engagement? Weren’t they just starting to date?"

Mr. Li then turned to Zhao Dingli and Li Xiaoyun: "Did you two know about this?"

Especially looking at Zhao Dingli, it was like he was watching a thief!

A thief wanting to whisk away his daughter!

Li Xiaoyun was also shocked, turning to Zhao Dingli: "Engagement?"

Zhao Dingli hadn’t expected the elderly lady to be so effective.

One phone call and the engagement was handled.

But he truly hadn’t known beforehand.

So he spoke innocently: "I really didn’t know, what’s with the lady’s situation?"

No matter how convincingly Zhao Dingli played his part, Mr. Li and Mrs. Li didn’t buy it.

Being one family, there’s no need to pretend!

"Ha ha." Mr. Li couldn’t help but let out a few derisive laughs.

Even Mrs. Li remained silent.

"I truly didn’t know." Zhao Dingli felt terribly wronged.
