Chapter 976: The Shadows of Abyssal Rift
Chapter 976: The Shadows of Abyssal Rift
After playing the role of Furcas, Jacob didn't stay any longer and vanished just as he appeared after 'instructing' Constant Baron-0.
Although he knew this might be risky, he was willing to take the risk for long-term benefits instead of short-term ones.
Furthermore, with the Eyes of Judge, he knew Constant Baron-0 wasn't lying or faking her devotion at all. She was really convinced about getting Furcas' favor and would follow his instructions diligently because she saw nothing but benefits in doing so.
"Do you really want to release her? What if she figured out we had been playing her and revealed everything?" Nyx inquired since she had her concerns about Constant Baron-0 and didn't want to let her go just like that.
Jacob replied impassively, "I know it's a gamble, but do you think she can get in touch with someone who knows the King of Hell Knights? She was even having trouble with a Constant Viscount and his minions.
"Furthermore, if I killed her now, the ATLAS will be alerted to her death just like in the past. I don't know about the others, but Constant Viscount and his Golden Constant minion knew who Constant Baron-0 had targeted before she perished.
"That's why I'm willing to take this risk. This is a chance to enter the core of the ATLAS and get as much information as possible about it. Even if I don't get their secrets, as long as I can have enough of them killed immediately, it'll be worth the effort."
Jacob's eyes flickered cunningly as he ordered, "I need you to prepare her before we set her free, and then she'll personally welcome the 'proxy' of the King of Hell Knights to this Timeless City! I'm tired of others ambushing me all the time; it's time I started returning the favor! You'll also start with the Virtual Star World and gather the Lifespan!"
"Alright, give me a few hours to 'educate' her." Nyx agreed, as she also understood Jacob's position better than anyone else.
Jacob nodded before he cut Nyx's vision again. He didn't tell her about the lifespan he'll get from raiding the Timeless City since it was irrelevant for her to know.
At this moment, he summoned Specimen-1, Alma, and she seemed to have regained her previous form after Jacob stopped his research on her.
Nonetheless, the moment she appeared before Jacob, she shuddered in fear but remained still as she had accepted her new reality with Soul Tether Hex's help.
"Let's start," Jacob impassively said as the Life Bane Wheel appeared behind Alma, and her nightmare began again!
---
The process lasted for only a few hours, and this time, Jacob didn't hold back and only stopped when Alma was on the verge of death before sending her away for recuperation.
Nevertheless, he gained more insights and knew he was closer to getting what he wanted.
"She's ready!" Nyx's voice rang out at this moment.
Jacob's eyes flickered before he left the Infinite Space again, used the Infinite Blood Sacrifice, and made a wish.
_____
Wish: I wish to teleport into the residence of the Constant Baron-0 inside the Timeless City of ATLAS within the Legendary Plains/Middle Galaxies!
Cost: 100% Infinity Blood… or 25,000 Years of Lifespan!
______
'It's more than I've expected…' Jacob thought, but he still felt quite thrilled about the prospect of appearing right next to his target as long as he knew their names and locations.
"Carry through!"
_____
-Lifespan: 789,144 Years (All Youthful)
______
The next moment, Jacob vanished from the Evil Domain, and he instantly activated the Gluttony Mask as well. After all, he knew that 'person' would probably sense his location here because he had appeared there previously.
---
Stretching across the far reaches of the Legendary Plains was a monstrous crack torn into space itself, a pitch-black rift.
There were no stars around this Rift, only a sky smeared with streaks of corrupted aurora, flickering like dying embers trapped in a vacuum. Jagged cliffs jutted from the ground at impossible angles, shrouded in a perpetual twilight haze. Gravity shifted unpredictably here—stones floated, rivers bled upward, and shadows twisted in directions that defied logic.
But the most unnerving part was the silence, not the peaceful kind, but the kind that screamed of unseen eyes, of things slithering beneath the fractured crust, watching.
This was one of the most dangerous forbidden regions of the Legendary Plains, the Shadows of the Abyssal Rift!
Everyone avoided this place. Some brave ones who dared to enter were found decades later, aged beyond recognition, their minds lost in endless loops of trauma. Others simply vanished—swallowed by the Shadows of the Abyssal Rift.
The reason for these phenomena was that there were zones within the Rift where space bent like liquid, and time unraveled in fits and starts. Entering was easy, but Leaving was as difficult as ascending to the Upper Plains!
Furthermore, this place also makes it impossible for prying eyes to probe because the space-time distortion and anything related to magic won't work here.
However, despite that, deep within the Rift's innermost distortion zone, where time blurred and light itself slowed to a crawl, floated a city that shouldn't exist.
The Timeless City was neither ancient nor new. Its architecture shifted subtly with each breath—sometimes a spiraling palace of black jade and silver, sometimes a broken ruin of charred ruins, and sometimes a vibrant sprawl glowing with neon arrays of terrifying formations.
It was shielded by a massive hourglass-shaped barrier suspended upside-down in the sky. Its sands flowed upward, each grain a fragment of time itself.
No outsider stumbled upon the Timeless City by accident. It existed on a fragment of spacetime carved out by the most heinous origination, the ATLAS—sealed away from cause and consequence.
Only those recognized by the city's core formation, the Temporal Sigil, could find their path, and even then, they would find themselves caught in a trial of memory and illusion before being granted entry.
However, today, someone suddenly appeared in this place after bypassing all the terrifying protection measures—it was Jacob!
