Cursed Immortality
Chapter 1268: Reality Bites! (1)
At this moment, every undead within the Skyfall Domain suddenly froze, and throughout the Undead Skyfall Canyons, countless undead simultaneously lifted their heads.
The endless ocean of soul-fire ignited within their eyes as if they had sensed something, and it was nothing else than life, in fact, an overwhelming amount of life. Fresh, warm, and overflowing with vitality.
After remaining dormant for so long, the instinct engraved within every undead finally awakened, and an endless growl spread across the canyon.
Millions of skeletal warriors tightened their grips upon rusted halberds, corpse giants slowly rose, nightmare steeds pawed at the black earth, liches ignited forbidden spells, and death knights lowered their lances.
Even the Legendary Kings rank undead slowly opened their eyes, and the disciplined silence disappeared. Instead, the countless undead became restless, hungry as though an unimaginable feast had finally arrived.
Atop the highest plateau overlooking the endless armies, one figure appeared: the Axe Bone Tyrant. Moments later, the Corpse Wyvern Lord descended from the sky, then another, and another, until all twenty-one Dukes of Death stood together overlooking the endless undead ocean.
Unlike before, none of them carried the confidence of conquerors. Instead, their expressions remained solemn.
The Corpse Wyvern Lord stared toward the distant horizon before speaking with a cold laugh.
"So, they are really coming."
Matron One’s countless skeletal hands folded behind her. "Mortals truly never learn."
Another Duke snorted, "They actually believed that since we’ve retreated, we are weakened and at their mercy? Laughable."
"Greed blinds fools."
A Giant Ghost Worm slowly drifted forward, "I almost pity them."
The Axe Bone Tyrant remained silent for a long moment before speaking, "...At least...it isn’t him."
Silence immediately followed, and no one asked who because no one needed to. Even after all this time, the memory of that calamity-like figure remained vivid. The monster who had slain their king before the Higher Being itself.
Even now, thinking about that battle causes their ghostly fires to fluctuate.
The Corpse Wyvern Lord released a long breath he hadn’t realized he had been holding.
"Indeed, had that monster returned. I doubt even another divine descent would’ve changed the outcome."
Several Dukes unconsciously nodded, even the proudest among them unable to deny reality. The Undead Lich King, empowered directly by the Higher Being, had still suffered true death.
Against such an existence, resistance had seemed meaningless, but fortunately, that monster had never entered the Skyfall itself. It was as if he had simply left, as though the Skyfall wasn’t even worth invading.
The realization brought strange relief to every Duke.
Matron One suddenly flashed an eerie, cruel smile, "But these newcomers are another matter."
The Corpse Wyvern Lord chuckled, "They’re merely Quasi-Myths and mortals without any higher being backing. They mistake numbers for strength, and ambition for qualification. They believe entering the Undead Skyfall Canyons is the same as surviving it."
The Axe Bone Tyrant slowly lifted his colossal axe, "This battle will remind the Legendary Plains why the Undead Skyfall Canyons remained unconquered even before His Late Majesty was born."
All twenty-one Dukes looked toward the distant heavens as their ghostly fires gradually brightened. Not with fear, but with anticipation.
However, none of them had any idea that the command to slaughter every living being invading the Undead Skyfall Crayons, which they had just received directly from the Undead Skyfall, was merely a pretext to achieve something far more important than killing all those ants.
Nonetheless, this task just happened to be perfectly aligned with the nature of the Undead Army, and not even the usually cautious Dukes of Death noticed that their fear of death had completely vanished from their very being.
At this moment, the Undead Army no longer had any rationality in its conquest; they all had only one instinct: to kill or be killed!
As for what the Undead Skyfall wanted to achieve through this, only "He" knows the real answer!
---
Far beyond the outer ravines of the Undead Skyfall Canyons, the gray heavens suddenly darkened.
One warship appeared, then ten... hundreds... thousands... before countless colossal fleets descended through layers of death mist like an endless sea of steel swallowing the sky.
Golden barriers illuminated the heavens, formation arrays stretched across thousands of kilometers, and terrifying pressure rolled downward like heavenly judgment.
Behind the fleets, millions of soldiers ranked between Unique Rank and Legendary Lord, hundreds of Legendary Kings, and, of course, the Mythical Coalition’s Quasi-Myths.
This was the greatest expedition the Legendary Plains had assembled in countless ages, yet the instant the death mist parted, every commander froze, and every Quasi-Myth narrowed their eyes.
Even those survivors who had felt slightly relieved suddenly woke to the same nightmare, cold sweat running down their backs.
Because the undead armies that should’ve been dormant were already waiting across every canyon, every mountain, and every plateau.
Countless undead legions stood in flawless formation, perfectly still, and disciplined like an endless black ocean stretching beyond the horizon.
They weren’t charging, roaring, or wandering, but seemed to be waiting just for them as though they had known this day would come.
At the forefront of that immeasurable army, twenty-one terrifying figures stood shoulder to shoulder, their death authority distorting heaven and earth, and behind them, the endless Undead Skyfall Canyons remained silent, as if watching with amusement!
---
Within the command citadel of the Mythical Coalition’s flagship, silence descended as no one spoke.
The enormous projection suspended above the circular hall displayed every battlefield in real time, and what appeared within it caused every Quasi-Myth present to narrow their eyes.
The Undead Skyfall Canyons were waiting, and not a single undead wandered aimlessly, nor were the legions disorganized. Instead, countless black formations stretched from one horizon to another with mathematical precision.
Armored skeletal infantry stood shoulder to shoulder, and towering corpse behemoths remained motionless. Death Knights sat upon nightmare steeds without the slightest movement.
Liches floated above every division. Legendary King commanders occupied strategic positions throughout the endless army.
At the very front, twenty-one overwhelming auras stood side by side like twenty-one ancient mountains supporting the heavens. Every one of them was a Quasi-Myth.
"..."
The atmosphere inside the command hall subtly changed; it wasn’t panic, nor was it fear. But the relaxed confidence that had accompanied the expedition until now quietly disappeared.
The Myth of Inferno slowly frowned, "This is unexpected..."
The Myth of Thunder’s carefree smile gradually vanished as he grimly stated, "They seemed to be expecting us!"
