Cursed Immortality

Chapter 1265: ‘Chaos’ Inside the Prison! (1)

  • Next Chapter

Within the Great Cosmic Continent of Sagittarius, in the deepest core of the Undead Skyfall Canyons, far beneath the Bone Citadel, endless undead legions, and even reality itself, the colossal chained altar still stood within an endless abyss!

It wasn’t the mere projection image that the Undead Lich King used to have an audience with without even having knowledge of it at all, but the real thing.

It seemed to have remained exactly as it had for countless ages, an ancient altar so enormous that mountains could rest upon its surface.

Its body was carved from an unknown black stone older than Legendary Plains’ civilizations themselves, every inch engraved with countless suppression runes that stretched endlessly across its surface like rivers of divine law.

Thick black chains thicker than mountain ranges pierced through the altar from every direction, disappearing into the surrounding darkness as though the entire cosmos itself served as its jailer.

Each chain radiated an ancient authority capable of suppressing even Laws.

At this moment, the altar still trembled, but not violently as before, instead rhythmically, like the heartbeat of something sleeping beneath eternity, each pulse shaking the entire abyssal space.

Suddenly, the surrounding void became almost completely silent, and gone was the endless fury that once surged from the chained altar. Instead, something far stranger was happening.

Around the altar itself, a veil was slowly descending. It resembled neither a formation nor an ordinary barrier; instead, it looked like a divine curtain woven from countless layers of translucent death.

Endless eerie glyphs floated through it, and each glyph resembled an ancient undead scripture written by the divine, as some looked like skeletal stars, and others resembled inverted halos crafted from bones.

Billions upon billions of tiny black runes drifted together like funeral snow, intertwining into immense circles that rotated around the altar.

Occasionally, a strand of pale gray divine light emerged between those runes. Although the light was faint, almost imperceptible, the instant it appeared, every suppression rune carved upon the altar dimmed slightly.

This light was true divinity, although incomparably weak; it seemed to be desperately trying to shine, providing power to the mystical veil.

The veil descended lower and lower. With each passing moment, more of the chained altar was concealed.

Its enormous silhouette was gradually fading, but not because it was disappearing, but because reality itself seemed unable to perceive it any longer. It was as though the barrier wasn’t merely protecting the altar, but separating it from existence.

The moment the Undead Skyfall felt an incomprehensible danger from Jacob, who avoided his divine spell in a completely elusive way that even a divine being like the Undead Skyfall couldn’t understand or see through.

That’s why, without hesitation, the Undead Skyfall decided to call every Undead present within the Sagittarius Continent into the Undead Skyfall Canyons.

It wasn’t like the Undead Skyfall was hoping to suppress Jacob with numbers or even thought that they could kill him when even "He" personally failed.

Instead, the Undead Skyfall’s true intention was to delay Jacob, if the latter even showed up, until "He" completed this mysterious barrier before falling into deep slumber.

Although as an unkillable existence, the Undead Skyfall has nothing to fear from a mere mortal, for some inexplicable reason, "He" felt a bad omen from Jacob.

That’s why the Undead Skyfall was even willing to use every trace of divine power to create this mystical barrier. As for recovering "His" ’throne’, as long as it was with Jacob, there was no hope of recovering it unless the Undead Skyfall could personally act, which was impossible.

However, the Undead Skyfall wasn’t worried that it would remain forever with Jacob because of a certain condition imposed on the Undead Skyfall by none other than its jailer!

At that very moment, while the Undead Skyfall remained wholly devoted to completing the divine veil, the immeasurable abyss surrounding the chained altar suddenly rippled.

It lasted for less than a heartbeat with a disturbance so slight that even space itself seemed uncertain whether it had truly occurred.

Thereby, everything returned to absolute stillness as the endless darkness remained unchanged while the suppression chains continued humming with ancient authority, and the countless divine glyphs continued weaving together into the descending veil.

Even the God of Hollow Undead noticed nothing; perhaps it was because nearly all of "His" remaining divine power had been poured into the mystical veil. Perhaps it was because "His" attention remained completely occupied with stabilizing the barrier. Or perhaps, "He" simply believed no existence could possibly arrive here.

After all, this place lay beneath the Bone Citadel, beneath the endless undead legions, and beneath layers upon layers of forbidden domains, as even reality itself had become distorted around this prison.

Unless one slaughtered countless undead, crossed every defensive formation, breached the Bone Citadel, and descended into this abyss, no living creature should ever be capable of standing here, not even that terrifying Hellspawn.

That was what the Undead Skyfall firmly believed.

But right at that moment, a melodious voice suddenly echoed throughout the endless abyss, "So...are you the God of Hollow Undead?"

The voice was beautiful, gentle even, yet colder than ethereal darkness.

"BOOM!!"

The colossal chained altar shuddered violently as countless suppression runes erupted in blinding radiance. Even the half-completed divine veil nearly collapsed as billions of undead glyphs became chaotic, almost exploding apart before barely stabilizing once again.

The entire abyss trembled as, for the first time in countless ages, the Undead Skyfall was shocked!

"WHO?!"

"His" furious divine voice erupted throughout the prison, and death authority exploded outward like an endless tsunami, sweeping across every corner of the abyss.

The surrounding darkness collapsed, space itself fractured, and even the ancient chains groaned beneath the pressure.

Yet, there was nothing, not even "His" divine perception found absolutely nothing, no aura, soul, law, or any kind of fluctuation, nothing whatsoever. It was as though the owner of that voice simply did not exist.

A silence unlike any other descended, and for the first time since "His" imprisonment, the Undead Skyfall felt something "He" had long forgotten. A trace of unease.

The icy voice sounded once more, and this time its tone had become noticeably colder, "I asked...are you the God of Hollow Undead?!"
