Cultivation System: Rise of the First Patriarch

Chapter 85 The Unseen Emperor’s Ancient Records

  • Next Chapter

According to the ancient records, the Unseen Emperor had possessed unfathomable strength during the ancient era, repeatedly killing cultivators who were several realms higher than himself and even destroying several major sects that once dominated the world. The most notable part of the record stated that all of his offensive techniques were.

Zan Yunxiao's eyes immediately widened as he read the incomplete sentence.

“What were his offensive techniques?” he muttered, quickly flipping the page, only to find that the rest of the information was missing.

“Damn it! It cuts off at the most interesting part.”

He continued reading, hoping to find another description of the Unseen Emperor, especially his appearance, but the records contained almost nothing.

“What about his appearance?” Zan Yunxiao said with a frown, only to discover that there was no detailed description at all. More strangely, the records stated that those who had personally seen the Unseen Emperor's face were unable to remember his appearance clearly afterward.

“So that's why he was called the Unseen Emperor...” Zan Yunxiao said thoughtfully, his expression becoming slightly complicated.

As he continued reading, he finally discovered when these events had occurred. The legends surrounding the Unseen Emperor dated back 100,000 years.

“One hundred thousand years ago...” Zan Yunxiao murmured, and a faint sense of relief appeared in his heart. “Then he should be dead by now.”

After all, even if the Unseen Emperor had been an existence of unimaginable strength, surviving for 100,000 years was another matter entirely. According to the records, the Unseen Emperor had eventually vanished after saving the world, and that was supposedly the last time anyone had ever seen him.

However, Zan Yunxiao soon frowned.

“Saving the world?” he muttered as he reread the passage several times.

The record didn't explain what catastrophe the Unseen Emperor had faced, who his enemies were, or even how he had saved the world. It simply stated that he had saved the world before mysteriously disappearing.

“That doesn't make sense...” Zan Yunxiao muttered, rubbing his chin as he stared at the ancient record. “Why would they record that he saved the world without explaining how?”

The more he read, the stranger the entire history became.

Zan Yunxiao slowly closed the book and stared at it with a complicated expression.

The records before him were clearly incomplete, and the more Zan Yunxiao read, the more curious he became about the life of the Unseen Emperor.

“What exactly did he experience back then?” he said while staring at the ancient pages, his curiosity growing despite himself.

At the same time, he couldn't help but feel somewhat relieved that the Unseen Emperor had vanished for nearly 100,000 years, making it highly unlikely that the real owner of this identity would suddenly appear before him.

After thinking for a while, Zan Yunxiao called toward the door, “Qiu Wuyin, come in.”

Qiu Wuyin, who had been patiently waiting outside, immediately entered the room and respectfully bowed. “This old man greets the Unseen Emperor.”

Zan Yunxiao ignored the exaggerated title and instead pointed toward the ancient records on the table. “Are there any complete records about the unseen emper—no I mean me?”

Qiu Wuyin thought for a moment before replying respectfully, “My Lord, I believe the complete records are in the Central Continent. According to what I learned during my younger years, they should be in the hands of the number-one sect there, the Hexagram Sect.”

“The Central Continent...” Zan Yunxiao muttered, his expression becoming thoughtful.

An idea immediately surfaced in his mind.

"Should I go there and retrieve the records myself?"

His curiosity toward the Unseen Emperor had already been thoroughly piqued, and obtaining the complete records would allow him to understand exactly whose identity he had accidentally impersonated.

However, Zan Yunxiao quickly dismissed the thought.

"Forget it."

The Central Continent was far too chaotic. Powerful cultivators fought over resources, ancient inheritances appeared constantly, and major forces competed against one another. Even with his current cultivation, he couldn't guarantee that there wasn't someone far stronger than himself hiding there.

Going there just to obtain some records isn't worth risking my life.

Zan Yunxiao sighed inwardly before looking back at Qiu Wuyin.

For now, Zan Yunxiao decided to remain in the Western Continent and continue searching for hidden powerhouses. The complete records of the Unseen Emperor could wait; strengthening his forces against a possible future invasion was far more important.

“Qiu Wuyin,” Zan Yunxiao called, turning his gaze toward the old man. “Do you know of any other Nascent Soul cultivators like yourself?”

Qiu Wuyin immediately cupped his fists and respectfully replied, “My Lord, there are several. Most of them are currently in seclusion, but this old man knows them personally. They were old acquaintances and friends of mine from many years ago.”

“Then recruit them,” Zan Yunxiao said calmly. “Bring them to my side.”

“Yes, My Lord!” Qiu Wuyin answered without the slightest hesitation.

Zan Yunxiao was taken aback by how quickly he agreed. He had expected Qiu Wuyin to at least ask why he wanted those cultivators recruited, but the old man didn't even question his order.

Meanwhile, Qiu Wuyin was already excited.

"Those old fellows used to mock me for having no powerful backer."

Back then, some of his old acquaintances had already possessed powerful backers behind them, which was one of the reasons they had managed to obtain resources and eventually break through to the Nascent Soul Realm. Qiu Wuyin, on the other hand, had relied on his own luck and a fortuitous opportunity to reach the same realm.

But now everything had changed.

"Let's see who dares mock this old man now!"

He had unexpectedly encountered an even greater fortuitous opportunity, the legendary Unseen Emperor.

With such an unfathomable existence backing him, Qiu Wuyin felt that his future had suddenly become incredibly bright. Recruiting his old friends would not only fulfill his master's order but also give him the chance to show-off those old fellows just how powerful his new backing was.

Zan Yunxiao watched Qiu Wuyin's excited expression and couldn't help but feel puzzled.

"Why did he agree so quickly?"

He had expected at least a little resistance or questioning.

Instead, Qiu Wuyin obeyed unconditionally, as though Zan Yunxiao's words were absolute.

Zan Yunxiao silently shook his head.

"Well... this makes things much easier."

He had originally planned to spend some effort convincing those Nascent Soul cultivators.

Now it seemed Qiu Wuyin would handle everything for him.

Qiu Wuyin immediately carried out his master's order and set off to recruit his old friends. He was eager to bring those old acquaintances under the banner of the Unseen Emperor and show them that the cultivator they once mocked now had an unfathomable backer.

Meanwhile, Zan Yunxiao remained in the Northern Region and continued searching for hidden powerhouses. As his spiritual sense swept across the surrounding area, he detected several powerful auras belonging to Nascent Soul cultivators.

“Several Nascent Soul cultivators...” Zan Yunxiao muttered thoughtfully, already guessing that they were probably the old friends Qiu Wuyin had mentioned. Since he had already entrusted the matter to Qiu Wuyin, he didn't bother interfering and instead continued his own investigation.

After a while, his thoughts once again drifted toward the Central Continent.

“The Central Continent...” Zan Yunxiao muttered with a slight sigh. He was genuinely curious about that place, especially after learning that the complete records of the Unseen Emperor were supposedly there, but going there now was simply too dangerous.

Suddenly, he remembered something else.

Tianlin.

It had already been twenty years since he last checked on that descendant. By now, Tianlin should have grown considerably, and there was a good chance that he was already in the Central Continent.

With that thought, Zan Yunxiao opened the Clan Interface and searched for Tianlin. After locating his name, he selected it and activated the Real-Time View function.

The scene shifted to a quiet forest where a young man in his late twenties stood beneath the trees, gripping a sword tightly in his right hand. Tianlin remained in a fighting stance, his movements precise and controlled as he practiced his sword techniques, each swing carrying a faint trace of spiritual energy.

After completing another sequence, Tianlin lowered his sword and wiped the sweat from his forehead with the sleeve of his robe. Just then, a familiar voice came from behind him. “Tianlin, how is your training going?” Ling Tianyou asked as he approached.

“I’m fine, Father,” Tianlin replied while catching his breath. “I feel like I’m beginning to comprehend the technique you taught me.”

“Good,” Ling Tianyou said with a satisfied nod. “Continue practicing it. Comprehension is more important than simply increasing your cultivation.”

Meanwhile, Zan Yunxiao watched the scene through the Clan Interface with a faint smile. He couldn't help but feel proud when he saw Tianlin's current cultivation.

At the age of twenty-seven, Tianlin had already reached the 1st Foundation Establishment Realm.

For an ordinary cultivator who began cultivating at the age of seven, reaching Foundation Establishment could easily take around thirty years without exceptional resources. Even with sufficient cultivation resources, it could still take around twenty-five years.

Yet Tianlin had managed to reach the realm despite possessing no spiritual root, relying entirely on the Voidheart Physique that Zan Yunxiao had awakened for him.

“Not bad,” Zan Yunxiao said with a satisfied smile.

After observing Tianlin for a little longer, Zan Yunxiao finally closed the Clan Interface.
