Chapter 91: Chapter 86: Sharp Edge
"Wang Sima, a Captain from the City Defense Army died in your South City. Your South City Bureau can’t escape responsibility for this! If you don’t hand over the murderer soon, it won’t be easy to answer to the General."
A man in military attire stared intently at Wang Guan and said in a low voice.
"Stop fucking using the General to intimidate me! If you have the guts, tell the General to come and fight me himself!"
Wang Guan said indignantly, "How the hell am I supposed to know who the murderer is?"
"If you don’t know, go investigate."
The man said coldly.
"It’s not your place to lecture the South City Bureau on how we do our job."
Wang Guan was fuming, but suddenly, a voice cut in.
Immediately after, a young man strode in from outside.
"Brother Mu! You’re finally here!"
Wang Guan was overjoyed, as if he’d just seen his savior.
The man in military attire narrowed his eyes, a dangerous light glinting in their depths. His gaze immediately snapped to Su Mu.
Su Mu walked in unhurriedly, stopping five paces away from the man.
Wang Lai stood behind Wang Guan, his hand unconsciously gripping the hilt of the saber at his waist, his expression exceptionally grave.
’This soldier’s strength is no less than my own,’ he thought. ’And these army grunts are notoriously short-fused; they’ll start a fight over the slightest disagreement. If he gets angry, he won’t care about the Second Young Master’s status. As long as he doesn’t kill the Second Young Master, the City Defense Army’s General will protect him. And the Wang Family wouldn’t fall out with the City Defense Army over a few dead outsiders. Su Mu, Su Mu... you’re digging your own grave. I can’t protect you.’
"Who are you?"
Zheng Tu stared at Su Mu and asked coldly.
"Su Mu, constable of the South City Bureau."
Su Mu replied calmly.
"A constable? Excellent!"
"Since you’re the constable," Zheng Tu said coldly, "I’ll give you three days to capture Captain Ding’s killer. Otherwise... my eyes might recognize you, but my saber won’t!"
"If your saber doesn’t recognize me, then there’s no need for you to keep it."
Su Mu stated flatly.
Before the words had even faded, a brilliant light flared.
Zheng Tu’s pupils contracted, and his face instantly flushed with anger.
’A mere constable dares to attack me?’
"Don’t!"
Wang Lai’s face fell, and he inwardly debated whether to intervene and save Su Mu.
In his eyes, there was no way Su Mu could be a match for Zheng Tu.
Before he could decide, Zheng Tu had already drawn his saber and attacked.
CLANG!
A sharp ring echoed.
’It’s over,’ Wang Lai thought.
But in the next moment, what happened before him made his eyes fly wide open.
He watched as Su Mu calmly sheathed the Autumn Water Saber.
Meanwhile, Zheng Tu had taken half a step back, holding a saber with only half its blade remaining.
Only then did the upper half of the blade fall to the ground with a CLATTER.
"Saber Force!"
Zheng Tu’s expression was a mixture of shock and disbelief.
’Saber Force... Only a handful of people in the entire City Defense Army have mastered it. Although I’m strong, I’ve never managed to grasp it myself. And yet a mere constable from the South City Bureau has mastered Saber Force?’
Zheng Tu had a discerning eye; he had seen it clearly. In that single instant, his opponent had struck nine times, each slash landing on the exact same spot.
The ninefold superposition of force, combined with his opponent’s extraordinary saber, was what had severed his own blade.
’This was clearly an extremely powerful Saber Force.’
He looked at the broken saber in his hand, a flicker of fear passing deep in his eyes.
’By mastering such a powerful Saber Force, even if his Cultivation is weaker than mine, he has a chance to kill me. If he used that Saber Force again, I have no confidence I could withstand it.’
Wang Lai’s mouth hung open, his eyes filled with utter disbelief.
’What did I just see? Su Mu cut through Zheng Tu’s saber with a single move? Zheng Tu’s strength is no less than my own! Wait, the Autumn Water! It must be the Autumn Water Saber! My Autumn Water Saber is a famed blade, one that cuts through iron as if it were mud!’
Wang Lai tried to console himself, but only he knew how little of it he truly believed.
The profound dejection deep in his eyes betrayed his true feelings.
Sometimes, the gap between one person and another is greater than the gap between a person and a dog.
"Haha! Brother Mu, that was brilliant!"
Wang Guan clapped and cheered.
Zheng Tu’s expression grew even darker.
"Fine. So the South City Bureau is going to throw its weight around, is that it?"
Zheng Tu said in a low voice, his tone incomparably softer than before.
"Throwing our weight around? Who was the one trying to do that just a moment ago? Now that you’ve lost, you’re trying to twist the story?"
Wang Guan was not one to take a loss lying down. "Not convinced?" he sneered. "If you’re not convinced, let’s go another round!"
Zheng Tu snorted and turned away, unwilling to look at Wang Guan’s smug face.
"Captain Ding died in South City. Your South City Bureau must give the City Defense Army an explanation. Otherwise, even if I were to let it go, the General certainly wouldn’t!"
Zheng Tu said, looking at Su Mu.
’I might not be able to beat him, but a mere constable is nothing but an ant before the City Defense Army.’
"The South City Bureau will investigate the case. But it’s not for outsiders to tell us how to do it."
Su Mu said coolly, "Let me ask you this. A Captain of the City Defense Army should either be in the barracks or, failing that, he’s qualified to live in the Inner City. What was he doing in South City in the dead of night?"
"This..."
Zheng Tu was left speechless.
He knew perfectly well what Ding Zhidou came to the Outer City to do.
Plenty of people in the City Defense Army knew about Ding Zhidou’s sordid little habits. It was just that because of his strength and talent, the higher-ups turned a blind eye.
But this was something that couldn’t be said out loud.
Was he supposed to tell these people from the South City Bureau that Ding Zhidou was in South City to sleep with his subordinate’s wife?
