Chapter 118: Chapter 99: Quadra Kill

"Are you interrogating a criminal, Chief Hu?"

Just then, Su Mu, having collected his silver from the counter, quietly approached Wei Yongfu. He patted him on the shoulder, signaling for him to step aside.

Wei Yongfu glanced over at Su Mu. Seeing the look in his eyes, he slowly unclenched his fist, stood up, and moved out of the way.

Su Mu brushed the dust from his collar and calmly sat down on the stool opposite Hu Feng.

"How about you interrogate me, Chief Hu?"

Su Mu said slowly.

"So what if I do? You think I don’t dare?"

Hu Feng snorted coldly.

He glanced at the pouch of money Su Mu had placed on the table, a flicker of greed in his eyes.

"Su Mu, I’m here on Sima’s orders. You’d best confess honestly!"

Hu Feng said coldly, "The Feiyun Thieves stole something from the Hu Family. That item is not for you to take. If you hand it over, the Hu Family can pretend this never happened and let you off the hook.

But if you remain stubborn, don’t blame the South City Bureau for settling the score with you for what you’ve done."

"I don’t recall doing anything wrong."

Su Mu said calmly, "Why don’t you remind me, Chief Hu?"

This wasn’t the first time Hu Feng had come looking for him.

Hu Guangshao considered himself too noble to even bother coming in person, merely sending Hu Feng instead.

Their goal was simple: make Su Mu hand over the spoils he had taken from the Feiyun Thieves.

Su Mu had brought back the heads of Yan Zhu, the leader of the Feiyun Thieves, and Bao Tong, the second-in-command, to claim the bounty. He hadn’t deliberately hidden the news that the Feiyun Thieves had been completely wiped out.

He had underestimated the shamelessness of the Hu Family, to think they would try to claim even these spoils for themselves.

Of course, he had refused.

’The Hu Family aren’t my grandsons,’ he thought. ’I have no reason to indulge them.’

"Su Mu, it seems you’ve chosen to do this the hard way."

Hu Feng said icily, "This is the third time. I’ve given you three chances.

Since you don’t know how to cherish them, don’t blame me for what happens next."

He shot a look at Hu Yu, Hu Lei, and Hu Dian behind him.

Hu Yu stepped forward, his hand snatching at the money pouch on the table.

"All this dirty money on you will be confiscated!" he yelled as he grabbed for it.

The Ghostwriters in the tavern stared, dumbfounded.

Whether they liked Su Mu or not, they were all stunned by the shamelessness of Hu Feng and his men.

’Dirty money?’

’Su Mu earned that as a Ghostwriter. He just collected it from the Shopkeeper. It’s his hard-earned money, how did it become dirty money?’

’If that’s dirty money, then isn’t all the silver on them dirty money too?’

WHACK!

Just as Hu Yu’s hand was about to close over the pouch, a sheathed sword suddenly slammed down on it.

No matter how hard Hu Yu struggled, the sword didn’t budge an inch.

His face flushed red, but he still couldn’t pull his hand back. He could only look pleadingly at Hu Feng.

"Su Mu, you dare attack an Official in broad daylight? Are you trying to start a rebellion?"

Hu Feng stared at Su Mu, a hint of fear deep in his eyes, and shouted, "Don’t think you can act so recklessly just because you have some skill! Attacking an Official is a capital offense!"

"Since you’re so well-versed in the law, Chief Hu, let me ask you: what’s the crime for robbery in broad daylight?"

Su Mu lifted his arm.

Hu Yu, who had been struggling to pull his hand free, was caught off guard. He yanked too hard and fell flat on his rear.

He jumped back up, both humiliated and furious, glaring at Su Mu but not daring to make another move.

"Sima was right. You really won’t shed a tear until you see the coffin."

Hu Feng stared daggers at Su Mu, then suddenly roared, "South City Bureau business! If you don’t want to die, get the hell out!"

His voice was so loud it shook dust from the rafters.

The Ghostwriters were all startled.

After a moment of shock, they all scrambled out of the tavern.

They were Ghostwriters to make money; they didn’t want to needlessly provoke Officials.

Wei Yongfu wanted to stay and help Su Mu, but Su Mu gave him a firm shake of his head.

’I’ll only be a burden if I stay. I can’t really help,’ he thought. So he ran out as well.

However, he didn’t go far, watching the tavern from a short distance away.

Su Mu sat calmly where he was, showing no intention of leaving.

Seeing that only they remained in the tavern, Hu Feng’s group of four took up positions in four directions, drawing their sabers and staring at Su Mu like hungry tigers.

"Su Mu, I’m not afraid to tell you, we four brothers have practiced a Combined Attack Technique since childhood."

Hu Feng said, "I admit, one-on-one, none of us might be your match. But when the four of us attack together, not even someone at Bone Tempering Perfection is a match for us!"

Pride showed on the faces of Hu Feng, Hu Yu, Hu Lei, and Hu Dian.

The four of them had been selected in their youth to train in the Martial Dao alongside Hu Guangshao. They had even been taught by an expert and had perfected their Combined Attack Technique.

With their combined attack, even Hu Guangshao was no match for them.

The Blood Transformation Realm old ancestor of the Hu Family had once said that with their combined attack, they were invincible within the Body Tempering Realm.

They refused to believe that Su Mu could be a match for their four-man combined attack!

"I’ll ask you one last time: will you surrender and come with us to the South City Bureau for interrogation, or will my four brothers take you down and sever your tendons?"

The four of them began to circle Su Mu slowly, their hands continuously changing positions.

"Since when can a constable arrest a Taiping Bureau White Clothes?"

Su Mu asked, still perfectly calm.

"Su Mu, your Taiping Bureau White Clothes title might scare others, but it doesn’t scare us.

Our Sima is also a Taiping Bureau White Clothes!"

Hu Feng sneered. "If you were a Taiping Captain, we’d naturally keep our distance. But you’re just a White Clothes. Our Sima is more than qualified to deal with you!"

"When Heaven sends a calamity, you may survive. When you bring a calamity upon yourself, you will not live."

Su Mu said slowly.

Before his voice had faded, Su Mu slapped his palm on the tabletop.

BANG! The cups, bowls, and plates on the table were sent flying into the air.

"Attack!"

Almost simultaneously, Hu Feng shouted.

Hu Feng, Hu Yu, Hu Lei, and Hu Dian all struck at once.

Their coordination was flawless. Attacking at the same time, they sealed off all of Su Mu’s escape routes.

Whether Su Mu chose to counterattack or flee, there was no way out.

This was the Combined Attack Technique!

Even then, Su Mu didn’t rise. He thrust his right hand forward, snatching a pair of wooden chopsticks that had been sent flying by his palm strike.

The next moment, with a sound like the crack of a whip, Su Mu flicked his arm, and the chopsticks in his hand went whistling through the air.

The ordinary wooden chopsticks, like arrows fired from a powerful crossbow, shot toward the four men with a piercing shriek.

This move, Celestial Maiden Scattering Flowers, was an indiscriminate attack against all four of them.

Hu Feng snorted. ’So what if someone at Bone Tempering Perfection has incredible strength and can throw a chopstick through a wooden plank?

We four brothers aren’t some fragile wooden planks. You think you can pierce my steel saber with a chopstick?’

A look of disdain flashed in Hu Feng’s eyes as he swung his steel saber fiercely at the incoming chopstick.

CLANG!

The sound of metal striking metal exploded.

The wooden chopstick shattered into pieces, splinters flying everywhere.

At the same time, the steel saber in Hu Feng’s hand actually snapped in two.

If it had been just one chopstick, Hu Feng would have indeed blocked it.

But Su Mu had thrown more than one.

Just as the first chopstick broke Hu Feng’s steel saber, the second one was right behind it.

Hu Feng had no time to mount a second defense. He could only watch as the second chopstick buried itself in his chest.

SPURT.

Hu Feng spat out a mouthful of blood, staggered back a few steps, and then collapsed to his knees.

The fates of Hu Yu, Hu Lei, and Hu Dian were almost identical to Hu Feng’s.

Now they were all on the ground, barely breathing, their faces filled with disbelief.

The Ghostwriters outside the tavern were also stunned. They had expected a fierce battle, but it was over with a handful of chopsticks?

Were Hu Feng’s group of four too weak?

No, Su Mu was just too strong!

"You,"

Su Mu slowly stood up, "know nothing of the power of intent."

"Since Hu Guangshao wants me at the South City Bureau, I’ll go now and hear what he has to say."

Su Mu picked up the money pouch from the table and slowly walked out.

Hu Feng watched Su Mu’s retreating back, struggled to lift a hand, his face filled with terror. ’Don’t hurt my young master!’

These last words remained forever stuck in Hu Feng’s throat, never to be spoken.

THUD!

The sounds of four bodies hitting the floor merged into one. Hu Feng, Hu Yu, Hu Lei, and Hu Dian were dead.
