Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Distributing Cotton Socks, "Big Turkey" Displays Its Might

As soon as Yun Zhen returned home, the items she brought spilled all over the floor.

"Mother!" a tender voice rang out. Before Yun Zhen could react, Xiaobao threw herself into her arms, and she instinctively reached out to catch the little girl.

Yun Zhen hugged her tightly. Xiaobao was wearing the padded cotton jacket Sister Huang had given her, though her father had altered it to fit Xiaobao’s size. No wonder she felt so soft and squishy in her arms. "Xiaobao, did you eat until your tummy was full today?"

Having eaten her fill, Xiaobao no longer looked as sickly as before. Her voice was full of vitality as she spoke, "Grandpa Village Chief and Grandpa cooked porridge for everyone. I ate a big bowl, and my tummy is super full!"

Seeing Xiaobao’s sparkling eyes, a wave of sorrow and relief washed over Yun Zhen’s heart. Everything she had done was worth it. Thanks to the heavens’ blessing, she was able to travel to that miraculous world and find a way to make a living. Not only had she survived, but she also ensured her family was fed and the villagers no longer suffered from starvation.

She gently stroked her daughter’s little face. "Why haven’t you gone to sleep tonight? Were you waiting for me to come back?"

Xiaobao was only two and a half years old and usually needed a lot of sleep. Normally, she would drift off before Yun Zhen returned.

"I didn’t want to sleep today. I heard Hu and Hehua say that Mother has become a Goddess! They said you can fly into the sky and burrow into the earth, and that you’re super amazing. Mother, is what they said true?" Xiaobao’s eyes widened and then her brows furrowed, eager to know if her little friends had tricked her.

Hu and Hehua were both over five years old and used to play very well with Xiaobao.

"Of course. Mother is very amazing. From now on, I will make sure you, Grandpa, Grandma, and everyone in the village have enough to eat and warm clothes to wear. Are you happy?" Faced with her daughter’s question, Yun Zhen’s face brimmed with tenderness.

"Wow!" Xiaobao covered her mouth, nodding frantically. "Mother is a Goddess! Mother is the most amazing!"

Yun Zhen was amused by her adorable expression. "Alright, go stand nicely beside Grandma. Mother has some very important things to discuss with your Grandpa and Grandpa Village Chief. Tonight, Mother will sleep with you."

It had been a long time since Xiaobao had slept beside her mother, so she was naturally thrilled and full of anticipation. She nodded firmly and ran over to stand obediently beside her grandmother.

Yun Xiu said with a smile, "Xiaobao has eaten well and dressed warmly these past two days. She isn’t lethargic like before, falling asleep the moment she hits the bed. She stayed up specially to wait for you today."

Yun Zhen smiled and nodded. "Father, thank you and Mother for taking such good care of Xiaobao."

Yun Old Lady’s heart ached seeing her daughter rushing about between two worlds, yet she was also filled with gratification. "Xiaobao is our granddaughter too. Since you are busy working for everyone’s sake in the Immortal Realm, you don’t need to worry about things at home. Your father and I will take good care of Xiaobao!"

The Village Chief also expressed his stance with absolute reverence, "Please rest assured, Goddess. Everyone in the village has received your profound grace and kindness. We will definitely take good care of your parents and daughter."

Yun Zhen smiled. "Uncle Village Chief, with your help, I am at ease."

Aside from the frail or the extremely elderly who had trouble moving, the majority of the villagers were gathered at the Yun family’s home, awaiting the descent of the Goddess.

Just moments ago, when they saw Yun Zhen slowly emerge from a pure, holy white light, their hearts had raced. They tightly covered their mouths, not daring to make a single sound for fear of disturbing her.

Everyone was silently marveling in their hearts.

"I have some good news to share with everyone," Yun Zhen announced. "Last night, we made six crocheted dolls, and an immortal in the Immortal Realm bought all of them."

"Really? That’s wonderful! The crocheted dolls we made can actually be sold in the Immortal Realm!"

"The village has another source of income now!"

"This is all thanks to the Goddess!"

"Thank goodness for the Goddess."

"The Goddess possesses vast Divine Skills to be able to find such a good job for us ordinary mortals in the Immortal Realm."

The crowd erupted into laughter, itching to dance for joy right then and there.

The ten people who had learned the craft from Yun Zhen last night were especially overcome with joy. They had done it! The crocheted dolls they made had actually sold in the Immortal Realm.

Upon hearing this good news, the Village Chief beamed with radiance, looking several years younger. "Goddess, this is all because we are basking in the golden light of your merit!"

Yun Zhen’s parents exchanged a smile, both feeling happy for the village.

Yun Zhen declared resoundingly, "They sold for three hundred and sixty cents!"

"Heavens! We earned such a huge sum of money in just one day!" someone exclaimed in excitement.

Yun Zhen emphasized once more, "That’s right. All six crocheted dolls sold for three hundred and sixty cents!"

Everyone present felt that although they were standing in the dead of winter, their hearts were burning with scalding warmth.

The crowd raised their arms and cheered, "The Goddess’s Divine Skills are vast! May her boundless magic power last for all eternity!"

Their excitement and joy were completely unbridled!

Yun Zhen pressed her hands down to quiet them. "Everyone, there is no need to be so excited. I haven’t finished speaking."

The crowd forcefully suppressed their excitement. If one ignored their trembling hands and tear-filled eyes, it looked as though nothing had just happened.

Seeing everyone quiet down, Yun Zhen continued, "Besides the essential fifty catties of rice, I also bought fifty catties of cotton. Families with elderly members over sixty, youths under fifteen, or children, please come forward to collect some.

"There is only one catty of cotton per person for now. Have those in your family who know needlework sew the cotton into your old clothes.

"The rest of you don’t need to worry. I promised to ensure you all are well-fed and warmly dressed, and I will not break my word.

"I bought two large bags of thick yarn and crocheting tools this time. Once we sell more dolls tomorrow and earn more money, I will buy more cotton to sew into your clothes and pants."

Yun Zhen’s voice was gentle yet carried an undeniable power, ensuring that everyone heard her words clearly.

Someone was so overjoyed they were almost dizzy, asking excitedly, "Goddess, will we be able to wear clothes padded with cotton too?"

Yun Zhen replied, "Yes. Once we earn money tomorrow, I will buy more cotton so that everyone can wear cotton-padded clothes.

"As long as we work hard enough, I believe it won’t be long before I can buy a brand-new outfit from the Immortal Realm for everyone in the village to wear!"

"Ahhh! Goddess, we believe in you!"

The crowd nodded in unison.

Yun Zhen dropped another massive piece of good news. "Although the fifty catties of cotton I bought are only enough for the elderly and the children, I bought one hundred and thirty pairs of cotton socks. There’s enough for everyone in the village to have a pair!"

Someone was moved to tears. "Thank you, Goddess! The Goddess truly has a compassionate heart, always thinking of every single person in the village!"

"We will worship and believe in you for all eternity!"

The young children excitedly danced around, the young men and women tried their best to contain themselves but were clearly overjoyed, and the elderly wiped their eyes as tears streamed down their faces.

Grandpa Zhang, with his hunched back, wept tears of joy. "We’re just wasting food by staying alive. Only the Goddess would keep us old folks in her thoughts."

Granny Wu held back her tears, her voice choking with sobs. "Being born in Taoyuan Village must mean I accumulated a great deal of merit in my past life. That’s why, when I was on the verge of freezing and starving to death in this life, I lived to see the descent of the Goddess."

Yun Zhen handed the socks to the Village Chief. "Uncle Village Chief, please distribute one pair to everyone in the village."

The Village Chief called over a few clever young men and women, handed them the socks, and instructed them to hand them out.

Everyone received a thick, warm pair of socks. They thought about how they could slip them on at night while sleeping so their feet wouldn’t freeze.

Yun Zhen pulled out the "Big Fire Chicken"—a lighter—that the shop boss had given her as a freebie when she bought steamed buns. She said to the villagers, "Look at this item in my hand."

The crowd collectively looked toward Yun Zhen’s hand.

Someone whispered to the person beside them, "Is there something in the Goddess’s hand? Why can’t I see anything?"

"There seems to be some finger-length gadget, but it’s unclear what it is."

"You must be seeing things. The Goddess’s hand is completely empty."

WHOOSH! A beam of golden-red flame suddenly shot up, illuminating the entire room.

The villagers jumped in fright and almost fell to their knees before her.

"The Goddess is casting a spell!"
