Chapter 180 - 180 - Reporting To Work - Part 2
Every other civilian who had the intention of working already approached the small recruitment centers and was assigned a job to earn food. But Liwei never took the effort.
Even when Fan Xui asked him that morning, he only replied that he was too scared of the outside world and he does not wish to be in danger.
That kind of behaviour might seem rational at the beginning of the apocalypse, but later on, if you don't have a job, you will be left starving.
"Liwei will not ever get close to my house." Fan Xui declared peering at Yue.
Yue finally spared him a sceptical glance.
"He will be going to his home today." He assured him.
Yue finally graced him with a smile. "I see," he held out a hand.
Fan Xui happily took it and placed both their hands into his deep pockets.
Zou Yue smugly glanced back at Qian. "that guy is not only a mooch but also an annoying cockroach. You better be careful, you three brain cell being. He will trip you and step on you when you least expect it."
"Liwei is not like that!" Qian still defended him.
"If that's what you want to think, then I'm okay with it." Yue did not even bother to look his way again.
"His brain operates differently than us. Common sense is not a common thing in his case," Fan added.
"Oh I see, that makes sense," Yue nodded and agreed to his flawless statement.
"Hey! Fan you, the betrayer. You betrayed our friendship for a lover.... how could you...."
Fan Xui glanced back at Qian with his brows raised. "It's logical. For instance, if you are given a choice between your Peng Peng and Liwei who would you choose to trust?"
"I believe in facts,"
"Who will you trust?"
Qian lowered his head with a pout. "Peng Peng..."
"See," Fan Xui made his point clear and walked beside Yue. He even helped serve some kimchi onto his plate.
Yue just smiled and whispered. "Your logic is slightly flawed. You should always trust your gut. What did your gut say to you this morning?"
"That your little fist is more powerful and can break jaws." He whispered back with a bright smile. Besides, I have never seen you hurt anyone without reason. If Liwei got hit, then he must have done something really bad."
Yue's look changed to that of appreciation. "Well said,"
They had their meal right there in the cafeteria before leaving for work
The food was fresh and tasted good. Yue even ate another bowl full of rice with all the side dishes he had taken not wasting even a small bit.
Qian on the other hand looked crestfallen just playing with his food.
"Don't waste food, it's a precious commodity," Yue whispered. he couldn't stay angry at this guy for longer because of his pitiful face. Now he understood why Fan Xui just sighed and goes along with his begging.
Qian glanced up. "I'm sorry for saying that. I still don't know what the truth of the matter was so I don't wish to judge."
Zou Yue nodded. "It's okay, eat your food I'll ask DR Prisitsky to give you one of the zombified quails. Don't keep that pitiful look on your face.." having that ass cling to you. He finished the sentence mentally.
"n-no, that's not it... I..... did you meet with Peng Peng recently? Has he said anything to you?"
"No, I was planning on meeting him this evening." Yue licked the spoon clean; Fan Xui next to him stiffly looked his way. He just raised a brow and glanced at Qian. "Why is something wrong?"
"I went to see him yesterday. He refused to meet me....." Qian sighed loudly taking a bite of the chicken.
Yue frowned slightly. 'Why though? Peng Peng was super worried about him. Why did he refuse to see him?'
"Did you say anything or do anything stupid?"
Qian looked slightly offended. "I didn't. Fan was there."
Fan Xui nodded. "It seemed weird. His voice was shaky and fearful."
Yue shot up. "I'll meet with uncle quickly and meet Peng Peng on the way to work."
"Wait I'm coming with you," Fan Xui stood up taking the plate to the cleaning area.
Yue froze. "Why? I'm going to work in a construction area."
"So am I,"
"Well.... they might need your leadership skills right here,"
Looking at it, Fan Xui seemed reluctant to stay in the military barracks. The look in his eyes relieved deep tiredness as he glanced around.
"Your friend Hary is already doing a wonderful job," Fan Xui pointed to something in the side. It was uncle Wen and Hary who were talking busily. The fellow soldiers all saluted to them respectfully.
A few of the soldiers even happily greeted Hary.
'His cheerful personality really won over the respect of these people. Wow.....' he then glanced up at Fan. 'Will things change this time? Will Fan Xui not take charge of this settlement then will Hary take control?'
"What do you feel about taking control? This is a great place to start. You are powerful and people will respect power." he tried questioning a little after all it was his destiny.
Fan Xui smiled dazzlingly touching his hands. "Don't care about it. I just want to live love and eat."
Yue's heart slight started to beat faster.
Yes, that was the purpose of their lives now. Live love, and eat. Nothing more.
Smiling Yue gently squeezed his hands back.
"You are right…."
Before leaving they walked over to uncle Wen.
"Oh Yue, did you eat yet. How is the food? If it's subpar, let me know I will talk to the chefs,"
"It was good, uncle. I plan on joining the construction team and helping with the wall.
Uncle Wen looked at Hary and then at him. "hmm.... Yue, why don't you try to get a job here in the barracks."
"No, I want to work at the wall."
"It's too dangerous, young child. You would have to face zombies every day,"
"Exactly, I plan on improving my aim and other skills by working there,"
That was his main plan. In his house, he won't be able to train much of his strength ability, but on the wall, he can do all kinds of training.
"Please~"
Uncle Wen still looked skeptical about his decision.
"I'll be going with him,"' Fan Xui added.
This time uncle Wen's expression changed a bit. He glanced at Fan Xui up and down. "why? Aren't you a rich CEO? Rough work like that will only tire you?,"
"I plan on 'training' with Yue,"
Yue blushed at his implied meaning.
