Chapter 1482: Chapter 9-17: Waging War with Victory

The assembly alarm suddenly sounded in the base.

Squads of fully equipped soldiers ran out of the camp, forming ranks. Mechas set into combat mode stood up with ceaseless "buzzing" and rolled out from the tarmac.

Dust billowed on the huge playground and roads. In just twenty minutes, nearly six thousand Single Soldier Mecha and hundreds of heavy, medium-sized, and electronic mecha had assembled. Under the orders of the officers, they drove out of the base in rows, heading northwest along the city roads and onto the resource highway.

The base’s searchlights, bright as daylight, cast long shadows of the two Major Generals and dozens of field officers. These resolute officers saluted Chen Fengxi and Pierre, then turned towards their Command Mechas. The heavy metal footrests retracted, and the hatch doors closed. The massive mechas kicked up swirling dust as they merged into the rolling convoy.

"Let’s go!" After standing silently for a long time, Chen Fengxi finally walked towards the convoy waiting on the side.

The convoy raced along the city highway. Outside the car window, the once bustling city had become empty and cold.

The military and transport convoys bustling back and forth were gone; no more officers driving Military Flying Cars hurriedly weaving through traffic; no more soldiers with guns slung over their shoulders, marching in single file on sidewalks outside shops; no more barbed wire and sandbag barricades at intersections, and no more off-duty soldiers flirting with female soldiers at bus stops.

The dim streetlights made the city ahead feel surreal. The empty streets, silent ruins, looked like an empty chip box in front of a gambler who had bet it all.

With the departure of the last Armored Division, all mobile reserve forces of the Resk Main Army had been deployed towards Sunset Mountain. The remaining reserve forces in Phoenix City, apart from the Front Army’s direct guard regiment, were merely two organized Mechanical Infantry Groups and some scattered soldiers who had just retreated from the front lines and hadn’t had time to reorganize.

Everyone understood that the Leifeng Star Army had committed its last strength to engage Bellif’s Northern Group Army main force.

If they win, the Leifeng Star Army could break the current passive situation and seize the initiative over the battle situation once again. If they lose, it would be irreversible misery.

This was a very difficult decision.

But since it was made, there’s no room for looking back.

No matter how thorough the plans, they are filled with unpredictable variables. No one knows when the Goddess of Victory will smile upon them or when she may suddenly turn away.

But everyone no longer wanted to be that frog in warm water.

"Will we witness a miracle, or a miserable defeat?" The convoy entered the base where the command headquarters was located. Watching as the Front Army’s direct guard regiment already assembled, rows passing by the car window, Pierre sighed long and heavily.

"We’ve done everything we could," Chen Fengxi looked at his partner and smiled slightly: "Regardless of victory or defeat, I have no regrets."

The Flying Car stopped in front of the building where the command headquarters was located, and a guard opened the car door.

Before getting out of the car, Chen Fengxi paused, turned back, and looked at Pierre: "Do you know what my biggest gain was before this battle began?"

"The bandit army?" Pierre guessed.

"No, my greatest gain is...." Chen Fengxi laughed and got out of the car: "I met a surprising Pierre."

Watching the straight and towering figure walking toward the steps of the small building, Pierre smiled.

He shook his head, and stepped out of the car with large strides.

All the anxieties in his mind vanished without a trace.

As a soldier, to be present in this grand era and participate in such a crucial battle is already a fortune. Even if this battle is the last performance of my life, ultimately, I will take a bow stubbornly standing in the blood of enemies and myself!

What could be more prideworthy than this!

The command headquarters operation hall was much more populated because of the recovery of SkyNet. The advisors restarted their work, hurrying back and forth, and even passing by Chen Fengxi and Pierre in the corridor without time to pause and salute.

SkyNet’s central computer ran amidst the hum of coolers. Data transmitted from every corner of the battlefield was gathered, analyzed, and organized here, eventually appearing on-screen as a cursor, a string of numbers, a passage of text, or an image.

These data might come from the front-line Reconnaissance Soldiers, units defending the line, a night vision device, a Mecha’s radar system, or an automated detector deep in the forest... The highly advanced modern electronic technology has made it possible for people to grasp everything through this omnipresent data exchange.

The revived SkyNet continued extending its vision. On the central main screen of SkyNet, the simulation maps of previously empty mountains, rivers, roads, and bridges were now filled with various intelligence annotations. Among them were the quantities of both sides’ troops, marching routes, unit numbers, as well as time passed by the units, combat intensity, and results.

Although under strong enemy electronic interference, SkyNet could only manage a small portion of the entire Resk battlefield, it was much better compared to the previous nearly blind situation.

Moreover, led by that magical prodigy of a boy, the enthusiastic electronic engineers continued broadening the intelligence coverage and constantly reactivating intelligence terminals that seemed impossible to activate before.
