The smile on Tu Luo’s face froze in an instant.
He pressed down his wife’s hand with one hand, while the other reached for the sword hanging from the pillar beside him.
The roof was covered with thick glazed tiles; no stray cats or dogs could possibly crush them, so there was only one possibility.
Someone was on the roof!
Tu Luo drew his sword and burst out of the room. Just as he was about to look outside to see what was going on, a whistling sound swept past his ear.
A fist smashed toward his temple, coming in fast, clearly not intending to give Tu Luo any time to react.
Fortunately, Tu Luo had already been mentally prepared. At the instant the fist came, he immediately stepped aside. After pulling open a bit of distance, the sword in his hand thrust straight toward the man throwing the punch.
As the sword came in, the other party had no choice but to pull his fist back.
Taking advantage of this, Tu Luo quickly shifted to the side to open up space, his gaze locking onto the intruder.
"Feng Jianran!"
No matter how Feng Jianran had disguised himself, Tu Luo still saw through his true identity at a glance.
Once exposed, Feng Jianran no longer bothered to pretend. He tore off the fur cloak on his body and flung it aside, both fists clenching tight as he strode in to kill Tu Luo, not wasting a single word—every move was meant to kill.
"You’ve got guts!" A surge of anger rose in Tu Luo’s heart.
This was the Tu Family’s estate.
To be blunt, in the Tu Family’s eyes, the Feng Family wasn’t even worth looking at. If not for the Liang Family backing them, the Feng Family wouldn’t even have the chance to raise their heads before the Tu Family. And now Feng Jianran had actually infiltrated the Tu Family to launch a sneak attack on him.
As the words left his mouth, Feng Jianran’s fist was already upon him.
Tu Luo raised his sword, unleashing lethal Sword Techniques to meet the attack. Sword light danced as the two of them were immediately entangled in fierce combat.
After a few breaths, Tu Luo’s Sword Techniques grew faster and faster, sharp, invisible Sword Qi cleaving down toward Feng Jianran again and again along the sword edge. Yet Feng Jianran did not retreat even a single step, taking the Sword Qi head-on with his fists.
After hard-blocking the Sword Qi, Feng Jianran’s fists kept hammering toward Tu Luo, each punch fiercer than the last. Within a few breaths, blows that had barely hurt before became brutally heavy.
Sometimes Tu Luo managed to dodge; other times he could only rely on his sword to block. But even when the sword took the brunt, Feng Jianran’s fists still drove him back several steps.
Tu Luo had actually fought Feng Jianran more than once before, but Feng Jianran’s punches had never been this vicious.
"Feng Jianran, what’s the rush? You think you can kill me, or you think you can get out of my Tu Family alive?" The sword in Tu Luo’s hand sped up as well, Sword Qi swirling through the courtyard like a storm of falling leaves.
After several exchanges, the walls collapsed, and Tu Luo’s room crumbled under their collisions. At the same time, shouts were rising one after another all around, along with the successive crashes of houses collapsing.
Hearing all this commotion, a smug gleam flashed across Feng Jianran’s face. He said, "Don’t count on anyone coming to help you. I’m not the only one who came to the Tu Family tonight, and as for the Tu Family’s guards—they’ve got more pressing matters to handle right now."
Just as Feng Jianran finished speaking, towering flames suddenly erupted on all four sides of the Tu Family, lighting up half the sky.
Tu Luo’s expression changed at once.
Of the four directions, one was where the Tu Family Grain Storehouse was; another was the Tu Family Martial Arts Storage Tower; the other two were warehouse depots for their stock. The Feng Family had actually scouted all this out—this night’s raid was clearly long in the planning.
"Feng Jianran, don’t celebrate too soon. Did you really think we hadn’t prepared at all for your shameless arson tricks? We’ve had firefighting water stored up for a long time. These fires can be put out in less than half the time it takes to burn an incense stick. When that happens, you’ll all be turtles in a jar."
That was what Tu Luo said, but inside he was still anxious. Since the Feng Family was here, the Liang Family was likely here as well. With both clans striking at once, they definitely had the advantage in numbers.
In the span of half an incense stick, a lot could happen!
Feng Jianran didn’t look the least bit surprised. Instead, he wore a "I knew that already" smile. "So what? Even if we only manage to kill you tonight, it’s still worth it. Oh, and there’s something I think you’ll be very interested in."
"Killing you is my greatest interest right now!" Tu Luo’s sword hacked down viciously.
A smug smile tugged at the corner of Feng Jianran’s lips as he snatched up a broken stone slab nearby and smashed it forward.
Blocking that sword stroke, Feng Jianran laughed and said, "Your son is already in our hands. Now that should interest you quite a lot."
"Longevity!"
Lu Xiuchun, who had been hiding in the distance, cried out in alarm.
Hearing his wife’s shout, Tu Luo’s face turned ugly at once.
Their one and only son had actually fallen into the Feng Family’s hands?
Feng Jianran kept up his vicious grin as his fists hammered fiercely at Tu Luo, driving the distracted Tu Luo back again and again. One of the punches landed squarely on Tu Luo’s chest, blasting him several zhang away.
"Quite the surprise, isn’t it?" This was exactly the effect Feng Jianran wanted. Tu Luo could no longer focus on the fight at all; losing was only a matter of time. If Feng Jianran seized the right moment, there was every chance he could kill Tu Luo.
Tu Luo clenched his teeth, using his sword to fend off Feng Jianran’s onslaught, then cursed in fury, "If anything happens to my son—if there’s even the slightest mishap—I, Tu Luo, will drag your entire Feng Family into the grave with him!"
"No, no, no, we’d never bear to kill him. At least not before you’re dead. Come to think of it, your son is actually quite interesting. While you were hiding all your juniors away at home, he had the balls to stroll down Brocade Street at the crack of dawn. Got to say, he’s got guts—shame we happened to run right into him."
