Chapter 75: Chapter 75: Extremely Insulting

Hualai Airport—

Several truckloads of supplies had been loaded and were ready to go.

Captain Lu was anxiously awaiting Chen Xing’s arrival.

He’d been feeling uneasy since morning, with a nagging feeling that something was about to happen.

At three o’clock, a thin layer of dust stirred on the gleaming blacktop.

Through the dust, a black sedan sped toward the airport terminal.

The intense sunlight glinted off the windshield, outlining Chen Xing’s slender form.

Seeing Chen Xing arrive, Captain Lu felt a great sense of relief and walked over to greet her.

As Chen Xing stepped out of the car, her eyes landed on the cargo trucks.

’Looks like the Military Brigade Commander spared no expense this time.’

’I wonder what the look on the Military Brigade Commander’s face will be when he sees Captain Lu and me return alive. It’s definitely going to piss him off!’

However, just as Captain Lu reached her, he stopped in his tracks.

The soldiers behind him also raised their rifles, aiming at something behind Chen Xing.

"Don’t be nervous. It won’t harm you without my command!" Chen Xing said immediately, turning to the Meng Hu right behind her. "Down!"

The massive beast immediately and obediently dropped to the ground.

Captain Lu was speechless. ’Is she training a dog?’

Seeing that the tiger was truly docile, Captain Lu stepped forward enthusiastically to shake her hand. "Welcome, Chen Xing! Before we left, the Military Brigade Commander specifically asked me to express his gratitude to you!"

To a soldier like him, a message from the Military Brigade Commander was the highest honor.

Chen Xing just smiled without saying a word.

"These first three truckloads are from me and my men. The other three are the down payment from the Military Department. If we complete the mission successfully, the Military Brigade Commander said there’s a bonus!"

"Mm," Chen Xing acknowledged without asking for details.

’This was the payment we’d already agreed on. Why refuse if they insisted on giving her more?’

’Then again, I wonder what he’ll actually hand over when I go to the Military Brigade Commander to collect my payment.’

She pointed to the terminal building. "Could you please help me drive the car into the terminal? A friend of mine will come pick it up later!"

A few men ran over and each got into a vehicle. Chen Xing drove one as well, and they drove them directly into the terminal hall.

Once everyone was out of the terminal hall, with a quick gesture, Chen Xing absorbed the cargo trucks into her dimensional space and walked back out.

They were taking a commercial airliner, a passenger jet capable of carrying over two hundred people.

The plane was crowded, and more than half the people on board were standing.

Chen Xing recognized some of them as the soldiers who were always with Captain Lu.

When Xiao Wu saw Chen Xing board, he leaped excitedly from his seat. "Sister Xing... You’re finally here!"

Chen Xing nodded.

Just then, Yang Ruibin, who was sitting in a business-class seat up front, stood up and barked, "Sit down!"

His gaze then shifted, skipping past Chen Xing to land on Captain Lu. "Captain Lu, how much longer do we have to wait? When are we taking off?"

Xiao Wu grimaced but sat back down.

Captain Lu explained on Chen Xing’s behalf, "We agreed on three o’clock. We’re the ones who got here early!"

"You’re supposed to arrive early and wait for the plane, not have the plane wait for you! Who does she think she is, putting on such airs? A celebrity? Some VIP politician?" Yang Ruibin’s tone was dripping with sarcasm, and he didn’t even deign to look at Chen Xing.

Captain Lu, of course, understood the jab. His expression soured. "Vice Yang, I’d appreciate it if you’d be more respectful. She is a guest of the Military Department!"

He was already frustrated enough about the previous attack on the sanatorium. He knew Yang Ruibin was involved but couldn’t find any evidence.

To make matters worse, the Military Brigade Commander had insisted Yang Ruibin accompany him on this mission, which only made him feel more stifled.

Yang Ruibin rolled his eyes. "A guest? Hmph... Acting like she’s so capable. Didn’t she just ride your coattails into the Military Department, Captain Lu?"

"That’s not..."

"Save your excuses!" Yang Ruibin cut Captain Lu off. "Can we just get going and not waste any more time?"

Chen Xing, who was standing beside Captain Lu, heard the two men arguing over her, but her attention was focused on the man next to Yang Ruibin.

Unlike the others in their Military Department uniforms, this man was dressed in light, casual clothes and wore sunglasses.

He looked less like he was heading out on a mission and more like he was on vacation.

What caught her attention were his eyes behind the sunglasses. His pupils were blue.

Not cyan or dark blue, but a shade so pale it was almost transparent.

In her past life, she’d heard that when a superpower was upgraded to a certain level, the user’s eye color would change.

The most powerful person she had ever seen only had their eyes change from black to gray; she had never encountered this kind of blue before.

Chen Xing’s utter lack of reaction to his nitpicking infuriated Yang Ruibin.

"What’s your problem? Are you looking down on me?" In the Military Department, Yang Ruibin was second to only one man and above all others. Who didn’t try to curry favor with him on a daily basis?

’To be ignored by some little pipsqueak?’

Only then did Chen Xing seem to notice that Yang Ruibin was trying to pick a fight with her.

’I should just nod and admit it,’ she thought. ’Yes, I do look down on you!’

But Captain Lu lost his temper first. "Vice Yang, have you no shame, picking on a young girl? She was personally invited by the Military Brigade Commander. You have no right to boss her around! Chen Xing, let’s go sit over here!"

"What did you just say?" Yang Ruibin had never been disrespected like this before.

’If a mere captain dares to be so insolent to me, how will I ever command respect from anyone else?’

"Captain Lu..." Chen Xing said, feigning surprise. "That man seems to be angry with you."

’Low on aggression, but high on humiliation!’

Yang Ruibin’s face looked as if he’d just eaten shit. He was speechless for a long moment.

’So, I’ve been fuming this whole time, and she didn’t even realize it was about her?’

"Holy shit... What is that?" Yang Ruibin, who had been trying to get a rise out of Chen Xing, finally noticed the huge, furry beast at the cabin entrance. "Holy shit, kill it! Kill it now!"

"Don’t panic, it’s Chen Xing’s pet!" Captain Lu finally felt a little vindicated. He ordered the soldiers who had raised their rifles to lower them.

Just then, Meng Hu moved from the entrance and began to slowly walk toward Yang Ruibin.

Yang Ruibin was frozen.

His pupils dilated as he yelled repeatedly, "Stay back! Don’t come any closer! One more step and I’ll shoot!"

Only when he actually drew his gun did Meng Hu let out a snort. It turned back to Chen Xing and obediently lay down beside her, shooting one last glance at Yang Ruibin, its expression clearly saying, ’Anyone who messes with my master is dead meat.’

Yang Ruibin didn’t dare to even breathe.

He didn’t dare question the disdainful snort, either.

The man in the sunglasses hadn’t paid much attention to Chen Xing at first, knowing only that she had some ability and had rescued some people from the Military Department.

Now, seeing Yang Ruibin practically fuming, he finally turned his "noble" head toward Chen Xing.

She was wearing a loose, dark blue sleeveless shirt and baggy jeans.

Her slender frame seemed almost lost in the wide business-class seat.

’This is the woman who saved people from a horde of zombies? This skinny little thing who looks like she’s all skin and bones? And she took down the base Boss Qi spent months building?’

"Old Liang, it’s a good thing the Military Brigade Commander sent you to assist us. Otherwise, that arrogant Captain Lu would probably throw me into the North Sea to feed the fish, and no one would ever know!" Yang Ruibin was furious, but more than that, he was afraid.

But the young woman hadn’t even known she was the cause of his anger, leaving him with no way to vent his frustration. He could only swallow his rage.

And he wasn’t the type to suffer in silence, so he redirected his anger back toward Captain Lu.

Captain Lu completely ignored him and spoke attentively to Chen Xing. "It’s a three-hour flight to the North Sea. You can recline your seat and get some rest. I’ll wake you when we get there."
