Chapter 54: Chapter 54: On Pins and Needles

Gundam wasn’t stupid.

When he left, Boss Qi had still been alive and kicking, even cursing him out.

In the blink of an eye, the man was dead, and in a state similar to Qi Dongyuan.

He had always thought Boss Qi killed Qi Dongyuan. He never imagined it was her.

Boss Qi was naturally strong, and with his habit of working out year-round, he could have easily handled four or five ordinary girls.

And he, even with his karate training, had fought Boss Qi for ages without gaining the upper hand?

He looked at Chen Xing in terror.

It seemed she was not only ruthless but also a formidable fighter.

’Good thing I ran fast,’ he thought. ’Otherwise, I would have ended up just like Boss Qi.’

Chen Xing shot him a cold glance, as if looking at a dead man.

Now that Gundam was being taken to the Capital City, even if he didn’t die, he would suffer a fate worse than death.

"Miss Chen, the items Young Master Song had us prepare have been placed in the Song Family supermarket. You can go inspect them at any time!" Vice General Du said respectfully to Chen Xing.

He had heard about her abilities from Song Yiguo—how she had single-handedly rescued someone from a group of nearly a hundred people.

Today, he had also witnessed with his own eyes how composed she was among several hundred people, showing not the slightest fear.

Looking again at the burly Boss Qi lying on the ground... he finally understood why Young Master Song would go to the trouble of sending her such a valuable gift from so far away.

"Oh, really?" Hearing that the supplies had arrived, Chen Xing’s eyes lit up.

Vice General Du nodded and asked, "Do you need me to have my men move the things here?"

He glanced around the warehouse. With everything inside and out, it would take more than just a few trips to move it all.

"No, no!" Chen Xing’s attitude was exceptionally pleasant. "You just take your people and go back. I have my own way of handling these things!"

Although he felt it was unlikely one person could secure so many supplies, Vice General Du didn’t insist.

In the post-apocalyptic world, everyone was selfish and didn’t want the location of their stash to be exposed.

After Vice General Du left with his men, Chen Xing went to the basement, picked out a few good cars, and put them into her space.

Her space had doubled in size with the latest upgrade. Even after storing everything, there was still a considerable amount of empty room left.

Her abilities had naturally improved as well. What satisfied her most was that the ring had completely merged with her finger, looking almost like a tattoo, so she no longer had to worry about losing it.

When she returned to the Song Family Building, the passcode hadn’t been changed, and she entered easily.

Hao Wenli was pacing anxiously in the lobby. When she saw Chen Xing return, color finally returned to her pale face.

She hadn’t completed her mission of getting close to Chen Xing; in fact, she had lost track of her completely. Just as she was considering abandoning the mission, Chen Xing returned. "Where did you go? What took you so long to come back?"

Chen Xing gave her a cold look. "Where I go is none of your damned business."

Hao Wenli despised Chen Xing’s blunt way of speaking—it was so uncivilized. On the surface, however, she maintained a friendly demeanor. "I was just worried about you! You probably don’t know, but a group of guys on motorcycles suddenly broke in here the night before last. They were asking for you by name! It scared me to death. I have no idea how they found this place. It’s a good thing you were gone. By the way... I clearly saw you come back that day. How did you leave afterward? I didn’t even notice."

She was certain that Chen Xing wouldn’t know she was the one who had left the address in the video’s comments.

"How did they find this place?" Chen Xing let out a cold laugh, her eyes growing even colder. "I won’t look into how they found me this time. But if something like this happens again, the informant will die a miserable death."

Her guilty conscience, combined with Chen Xing’s piercing gaze, made Hao Wenli feel completely exposed. She could feel goosebumps rising on her arms. "It’s not that serious, is it? It’s just telling on someone. Does it really warrant a death sentence?"

"You wanted me dead. Why should I spare your life?" Without lingering, Chen Xing immediately walked toward the private elevator.

Hao Wenli shivered again, feeling like she was covered in goosebumps.

’Does that mean Chen Xing knows I’m the one who left the address?’

’Impossible!’

’I used a burner account to post the comment. How could she possibly know it was me?’

But Chen Xing’s glare was clearly hostile.

After pacing back and forth anxiously for a few moments, Hao Wenli ran toward the elevator as well.

In any case, someone was finally back in the building, which gave her some peace of mind. Otherwise, being all alone in the entire building scared her so much she didn’t even dare to sleep.

That day, when Boss Qi and his men couldn’t find Chen Xing, they had dragged her and Xiao Li upstairs to interrogate them.

How would they know where Chen Xing had gone? "We really don’t know where Chen Xing went! You saw for yourself, you need the private elevator to get up here. We can’t even get in, so we have no idea how she left."

Boss Qi grabbed her by the neck in fury. "Spill it, or I’ll kill you!" His hand tightened slightly, and she could barely breathe.

Terrified, she pleaded, "You might not know this, but I’m the one who left the address under your comment. I wanted you to catch her more than anything, so why would I help hide her? I bet it was probably Xiao Li," she said, pointing at Xiao Li.

She was kicking herself now.

When she saw the comment, she had a bad feeling and intentionally left the address. She only wanted to teach Chen Xing a lesson, then find a way to save her at the critical moment. That way, she could naturally become Chen Xing’s friend. Who knew it would turn out like this?

Xiao Li was speechless.

"But I was with you the whole time..."

Before she could finish, Boss Qi grabbed her by the neck, but his eyes were fixed on Hao Wenli. "I just love people like you who only look out for themselves. I trust that when Chen Xing returns, you’ll obediently pass the message to me!"

Hao Wenli’s face turned pale with fright as she nodded vigorously. "I will, I absolutely will!"

Now, she was rushing upstairs precisely to call Boss Qi.

She had only been tasked with getting close to Chen Xing; she didn’t need to get dragged down and lose her life over it.

However, she called several times, but the calls all went unanswered.

Chen Xing glanced at the phone. It was the one she had taken from Boss Qi’s body.

The caller ID displayed the name: "Informant at XX Building."

It was definitely Hao Wenli, no doubt about it.

Chen Xing pressed the answer button but didn’t say anything.

On the other end, Hao Wenli was eager to take credit. "Boss, Chen Xing is back! I’m calling to report to you the moment she returned, Boss..." Noticing the silence from the other side, she sensed something was wrong and suddenly stopped. After a long pause, she called out tentatively, "Boss?"

Chen Xing didn’t speak. She just hung up the phone.

The moment she spoke, she could have scared Hao Wenli half to death, but that would only last for an instant... She wasn’t going to let her off that easily.

Knowing Hao Wenli’s personality, she would certainly be happy if she found out Boss Qi was dead. Conversely, not knowing he was dead—and living with the possibility that he could show up at any moment—was the real torture.

When the other party suddenly hung up, Hao Wenli was left on pins and needles.

She didn’t know what Boss Qi meant by that and didn’t dare call back to ask.

She kept going to the window to see if Boss Qi had arrived.

The feeling was incredibly unsettling.

She couldn’t sleep a wink the entire night.

After hanging up, Chen Xing knew Hao Wenli was in the throes of anxiety.

So she took the elevator down to the Song Family supermarket to inspect the goods Song Yiguo had sent.
