He had complete faith in Chen Xing, which was why he’d goaded Captain Chen into saying it himself.

Seeing Captain Chen’s confidence, Yan Caini immediately backed him up. "Since Captain Chen himself won’t pursue the matter, it’s only fair that no one seeks retribution if you die, Chen Xing!"

Chen Xing slowly turned her gaze to Yan Caini. "What, not satisfied that Captain Chen died in your place? You want to try your luck?"

Yan Caini flinched and backed away, not daring to speak until she was behind Captain Lu. "Murder is wrong! Captain Lu... she killed one of your own men from the Military Department, you can’t just ignore this!"

Captain Lu had expected this outcome and could only try to quickly control the situation. "The two of them clearly stated that no one would be held responsible afterward..."

"But she killed a captain from your Military Department..." Yan Caini was terrified.

But at his shout, the people scrambled to run into the building, their panicked cries drowning out his voice.

Not only did the lookout on the roof not answer him, but he turned and vanished from sight.

Captain Lu: "..." He was about to go up and find out what was going on.

Chen Xing pointed to the main road. "It must be a zombie horde!" And it wasn’t a small one, either.

Judging by the way all the birds in the surrounding forest had taken flight, it had to be either people or zombies.

In the current situation, a large group of humans was impossible. It could only be zombies.

Captain Lu had no choice but to believe Chen Xing, because a few fast-moving zombies had already reached the outer fence and were ramming against it.

The Company Platoon Leader glanced at the zombies by the gate and felt Chen Xing was being overly dramatic.

"It’s just a dozen zombies. Is all this fuss necessary? The military doesn’t just sit around and eat for free!"

Captain Lu, however, looked at Chen Xing in shock. "Are you telling the truth?"

"It’s a horde!" Chen Xing had already surveyed the surroundings.

There was only one road leading to the outside world. Strictly speaking, this made the location very secure.

But... on the flip side, if a horde got in, it would block the only escape route. Unless you could run up the mountain faster than the zombies, there was nowhere to run.
