Chen Xing looked at the commenter’s account.

The profile picture was a cartoon, and it hadn’t left comments anywhere else besides her Channels account.

It was obviously a new sock puppet account created specifically to comment on her posts.

All of its comments and likes were negative. Whoever it was definitely didn’t wish her well.

Only people who had lived in the building would know her exact address.

And the person who wished her the most ill was, without a doubt, Hao Wenli.

Chen Xing immediately switched to her own sock puppet account and scrolled for a long time before finding the gang leader’s comment.

She left a reply underneath: "I heard the beauty in Room 1902 of that building is best friends with the streamer..."

When Hao Wenli saw the comment from Chen Xing’s sock puppet account a few hours later, she completely freaked out.

’Damn it, who the hell is trying to screw me over like this?’

She wracked her brain but couldn’t figure out who it could be.

Chen Xing?

She couldn’t imagine someone as stoic as Chen Xing ever admitting to being friends with her.

So, she didn’t even consider that the account might belong to Chen Xing.

From the moment she learned someone had called her Chen Xing’s friend, she couldn’t rest easy.

She thought about hiding next door in Room 1903, but Xiao Li wouldn’t open the door at all.

It wasn’t until the dead of night that she finally, groggily, drifted off to sleep.

She had just closed her eyes when the thunderous roar of motorcycles jolted her awake.

She rushed to the window and looked down. A dozen or so motorcycles followed by several off-road vehicles had instantly surrounded the building.

Hao Wenli’s legs went soft with fear. She leaned against the wall, hiding behind the curtains.

’He probably won’t see the replies that far down. Besides, the main door of this building is so sturdy, they can’t possibly break in even if they try!’ While trying to comfort herself, she still ran toward Room 1903.

After she knocked for a good while, Xiao Li finally opened the door. "What’s with all the knocking in the middle of the night? Aren’t you going to sleep?"

Hao Wenli practically shoved her way in, slamming and locking the door behind her. "Didn’t you see them? There are people outside trying to take over our building!"

Seeing that Hao Wenli wasn’t faking it, Xiao Li walked to the window. Sure enough, she saw a group of people eyeing the building menacingly. "What do they want?"

"How should I know? Maybe we should ask the higher-ups to send people to protect us?"

’In her dreams!’

’With their status at the Research Institute, they were janitors and errand runners at best. Protect them? What a joke.’

Before Xiao Li could say anything, the doorbell rang incessantly.

Soon after, a vicious threat came from the other side: "Open up nicely. Anyone who doesn’t open up will be dealt with the same as the penthouse crew. Open the door..."

Hearing this, Hao Wenli trembled even more violently.

She wanted to open the door, to draw a clear line between herself and Chen Xing, but she was afraid the desperados outside wouldn’t keep their word.

Meanwhile, Chen Xing was completely unaffected.

After hearing the commotion, she just rolled over and went back to sleep.

’Unless Hao Wenli has a complete brain fart and opens the door for them, it’s impossible for them to break in without a few hours of work.’

’Besides, even if they get into the building, it would take a significant amount of time to reach the top floor.’

Chen Xing opened her eyes again just before dawn.

The motorcycle squad was still outside, but there was no one in sight.

She went into the kitchen, cooked a bowl of pumpkin congee, steamed a basket of buns, and ate them with some small pickles and a salted duck egg... After finishing her meal, she left her apartment.

She didn’t take the elevator, instead opening the emergency door to the stairwell.

Judging by the numerous dents and dings on the outside of the door, this was the source of the banging and smashing sounds from last night.

They had been at it for so long but still couldn’t open it. This door was unusually sturdy.

Just as she entered the stairwell, the gang leader took the elevator and arrived on the top floor.

He had thought he’d finally have that bitch Chen Xing cornered, but to his surprise, the apartment was empty.

What was most infuriating was that in such a huge apartment, there wasn’t a single decent thing, let alone anything valuable. It was so empty it looked like no one had ever lived there.

"Where’s that bitch?" the gang leader roared in frustration.

He had clearly been duped. It was impossible that anyone lived here!

His men were all completely baffled. They had wasted several hours and hadn’t even seen a shadow. They had clearly been played.

"Boss... do you think those two women downstairs were lying? Maybe that Chen Xing doesn’t live here at all?"

The leader gave a signal, and someone went down to drag Hao Wenli and Xiao Li up.

Hao Wenli stared at the empty apartment, just as stunned as the gang leader. "Where is she?" ’She was clearly here last night.’

The gang leader narrowed his eyes at her. "Yeah, where is she?"

’No way anyone lived here.’

It looked like it had been vacant for quite some time.

Hao Wenli’s heart sank. She glanced at Xiao Li in a panic. "Xiao Li, tell them! Tell them Chen Xing was still living here last night! As for when she left, we don’t know either!"

Xiao Li was a coward by nature, and seeing the leader’s fury, she was terrified. "Yesterday, just as it got dark, we saw her come in with our own eyes! We don’t know when she left!"

The leader’s cold gaze swept over their faces. "I heard the woman in 1902 is best buds with that bitch Chen Xing?"

Hao Wenli instantly understood the situation. Pointing at Xiao Li, she quickly answered, "She’s the one who lives in 1902!"

Xiao Li was speechless. "..." Even an idiot would have figured out what was happening.

She angrily grabbed Hao Wenli by the collar. "You’re fucking framing me! It was obviously..."

"You were the one who said you were scared and ran from 1902 to my place in 1903! Xiao Li, you can’t lie in front of this gentleman. Even if you did, you wouldn’t be able to fool him!" Hao Wenli’s acting was so convincing, you couldn’t tell it was a performance.

When Xiao Li saw that the gang leader seemed inclined to believe Hao Wenli, she shook her head in terror. "It’s really not me..." Meanwhile, Chen Xing had smoothly made her way down the stairwell all the way to the underground parking garage.

To ensure the motorcycle gang wouldn’t bother her again, she had collected everything in her apartment before leaving, making it look as if no one lived there.

Chen Xing left the building on foot and walked for some distance before finding a car.

Her goal for the day was a gas station, and also a natural gas station.

She circled halfway around the outskirts of Hualai City, and the gasoline and diesel had already filled her storage space.

Her next target was the natural gas station in East City.

She drove through two districts and finally reached the East District, but the place looked like a disaster zone. There were many zombies, and the roads were severely blocked.

She had to take a long detour, cutting through a wild forest outside the city to enter from another direction.

Just as she was deep in the forest, a heaven-shaking roar echoed all around, instantly grabbing Chen Xing’s attention.
