Cooking Gourmet Meals in the Apocalypse
Chapter 35: Incorrect Password
Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Incorrect Password
She ignored the top comment for the moment, but the commenter was Yan Junxi, the most popular celebrity right now, so the number of likes was naturally skyrocketing.
Hao Wenli instantly had a bad feeling.
She didn’t know what kind of relationship Yan Junxi had with Chen Xing, but she could at least be sure that he was now living upstairs.
She looked again at the top comment.
Yan Junxi didn’t actually say how great Chen Xing was.
He just casually mentioned that she had saved his life.
’The nation’s boyfriend’s life was saved by Chen Xing?’
That single fact was enough to win over more than half the rest of the country.
Chen Xing was a female warrior who saved people from the jaws of zombies and heroically rescued others from the threats of a biker gang...
Seeing someone below asking for details, Yan Junxi didn’t hold anything back and laid out the full story of how Chen Xing had saved them.
Naturally, the number of likes continued to soar.
Unresigned, Hao Wenli scrolled down further.
It wasn’t that the posts calling Chen Xing a ruthless killer were gone; they were just buried, completely ignored.
And the strangest thing was, even under those buried comments, there were people expressing support for Chen Xing.
For example: "It’s the apocalypse. Surviving is more important than anything. She’s got the skills to stay alive, so what’s your problem?"
: No update in two days. Eagerly awaiting the next one!
: Goddess, are you taking on any followers?
...
Then another comment: "I know the inside story, I was there... so she wasn’t really in the wrong. It was just self-defense. I don’t think she did anything wrong. If someone threatened me, I’d do the same thing."
This person was clearly one of the former residents of the building. They started to explain in detail how Chen Xing and her group had been locked out.
Hao Wenli was incredibly frustrated.
Based on this person’s account, you really couldn’t find any fault with Chen Xing. Everything she did was justifiable under the circumstances.
’Damn it!’
The most infuriating part was that these comments had been posted even before Yan Junxi’s.
It seemed that even if Yan Junxi hadn’t said anything, people would have sided with Chen Xing anyway.
She had always thought that after people saw Chen Xing kill, her public image would collapse and no one would support her.
Hao Wenli gripped her phone, staring at the comment section.
With a superstar like Yan Junxi supporting her, whatever Hao Wenli said would probably be useless.
Just as she was fuming with indignation, another comment quietly caught her eye.
: Could this food vlogger girl be the one Yan Junxi has been seen with?
Hao Wenli was the first to like it.
If this comment was pushed to the top, then Yan Junxi’s words would lose their power.
After all, a man defending his own woman would have much less credibility.
Hao Wenli stared intently at the red heart icon, hoping the comment would go viral.
But... things never went her way.
Just then, Chen Xing suddenly posted a new video.
The comment that was about to get hot was instantly suppressed by the popularity of the new video. With Yan Junxi’s comment already at the top, it didn’t stand a chance.
This wasn’t a stroke of luck for Chen Xing. After returning to her room, she had also opened the video platform. Seeing the gossip in the comments getting out of hand, she decisively posted a video she had recorded on the first day.
: Oh my god, it’s the middle of the night! I’m gonna die!
: My pathetic tears are streaming from the corners of my mouth!
: I want to order takeout so badly!
: I miss the days when we could order takeout!
: Ditto!
: Ditto +1
: Ditto +99
: This looks so delicious!
...
Hao Wenli was going crazy, but there was nothing she could do.
Even if there were some hateful comments, they were completely drowned out by the flood of envious ones and were impossible to see.
Seeing that the gossip hadn’t made an impact, Chen Xing stopped paying attention to the video.
It wasn’t that she cared what others thought of her, but she didn’t want to be linked to Yan Junxi in any way.
She had a pretty good read on Song Yiguo’s character. He was easygoing on the surface, but when it came to matters concerning Yan Junxi, he would turn on you in an instant.
He was the kind of person who would risk his life for Yan Junxi!
Besides the two men themselves, she was probably the person most aware of this fact.
If she wanted to maintain a harmonious relationship with Song Yiguo, staying away from Yan Junxi was the right move.
「The next day, a roaring sound echoed from outside.」
Hao Wenli thought a real bomb was coming. Without even bothering to get properly dressed, she scrambled down to the first-floor lobby.
She had probably never moved so fast in her entire life.
Captain Lu and the young soldier had already said their goodbyes and were about to head out to report back. Before they could open the door, they were grabbed. "Boss Song is really going to blow up this building, isn’t he?" Hao Wenli’s voice trembled.
However, seeing the two of them still there was a slight relief.
At least the building wouldn’t be bombed immediately.
Captain Lu: "..." He had no idea what method Song Yiguo was using to drive these people away.
"Probably not, right?" After all, Chen Xing was still living here.
Hao Wenli didn’t think Captain Lu was lying, but out of fear, she followed them out of the building anyway.
There weren’t many zombies outside the building to begin with, and since it was currently their inactive period, it was naturally quiet.
The roaring sound, however, didn’t diminish at all. A helicopter carrying Song Yiguo and Yan Junxi was taking off.
Realizing it wasn’t a bombing, Hao Wenli let go of Captain Lu. "They’re here to pick up Boss Song?"
"Yes!" Captain Lu didn’t delay any further and immediately ran off into the distance with the young soldier.
Hao Wenli let out a long breath, finally feeling at ease.
As long as Chen Xing still lived here, her own safety was guaranteed.
She quickly ran back to the door and punched in the password, but... the door didn’t open!
"..." She got an "Incorrect Password" error several times in a row.
’Damn it!’
’They changed the password!’
Fear instantly gripped Hao Wenli. Clinging to her last hope, she rang the doorbell for the top floor.
Chen Xing, of course, saw her. ’But why should I open the door?’
’If you’re so capable, get in on your own. Didn’t I have to find a way in myself?’
Chen Xing stood on the balcony, stroking her jaw as she gazed down at the empty, dark street.
A few minutes later, she saw Hao Wenli hurrying off in the direction of the Research Institute.
’If she has any real ability, she should be back in less than two hours.’
Chen Xing felt that such a fine morning shouldn’t be wasted, so she went downstairs, left the building, and headed straight for the small shops nearby.
The power had been out completely for several days, so things like meat and cooked food had already gone bad.
She wanted to collect all the supplies from the nearby small supermarkets and convenience stores that hadn’t been taken yet.
The convenience stores were already empty, but a small supermarket with its roll-down security door still intact had some things left inside.
As long as she didn’t come away empty-handed, Chen Xing was happy.
She scoured the nearby small shops all morning and afternoon, ending with a small but decent haul.
’Time to go home before it gets dark!’
Chen Xing stopped searching for supplies and made her way back to her building, skirting around the few zombies that were out.
For some reason, Chen Xing felt that the number of zombies around here was much lower than in other areas.
Incorrect password...
Chen Xing looked up at the security camera.
She didn’t need to guess to know that Hao Wenli was back.
’She’s probably doubled over with laughter watching the monitor right now, isn’t she?’
Hao Wenli stared at Chen Xing, naturally feeling smug.
She believed that under these circumstances, Chen Xing would surely swallow her pride and beg her to open the door.
After all, Boss Song wasn’t here, so there was no one to back her up.
If this door didn’t open, she’d probably have to sleep on the streets.
However, Chen Xing showed no intention of asking for anything. Her deep, ice-pool-like eyes stared at the camera for a few seconds before she reached out and tapped the keypad above the lock a few times.
