Chapter 286: Chapter 283: The Person Who Gave Him a Second Life
"Are the zombies really that powerful now?" Song Yiguo and Vice General Du couldn’t help but feel skeptical.
If zombies have evolved to this point, developing intelligence, then how is humanity supposed to survive?
’Looks like the safe zones will have to be fortified even more.’
"I encountered a Spiritual Zombie..." Chen Xing began, then launched into a detailed account of the unimportant aspects of her encounter in Shuiyuan City, like how the Spiritual Zombie had smashed her RV.
"So how did you manage to escape?" Song Yiguo’s eyes narrowed, watching Chen Xing with a cunning gaze.
’Looks like we’ll have to rely on her to get out of here safely this time, too.’
Chen Xing was speechless. ’I knew it. The more you say to a sly fox, the more holes you reveal in your story.’
"I awakened an Earth Ability and escaped by burrowing underground!"
Having just witnessed Yu Laosan’s Earth Ability, they had no reason to doubt her.
"I can’t take all three hundred of you with me! How about... we just try to break through with the vehicles?" Chen Xing suggested.
As long as the vehicles are sturdy enough, there’s nowhere they can’t go.
The Song Family’s vehicles were always top-of-the-line in both performance and protection.
The RV they had given Chen Xing was proof that they spared no expense in this regard.
"Once we’re on the plane, it won’t matter how powerful that Spiritual Zombie is!"
The North Sea airport wasn’t far—only a few dozen kilometers.
As long as there were no mishaps along the way, they should be able to leave this place without a hitch.
"Give the order! Everyone to the vehicles, head to the airport, now!" Song Yiguo felt this was their only option.
A convoy of five vehicles drove out of the Lu Family compound and immediately slammed into the encircling zombie horde.
Vice General Du took the lead with one team to clear a path. Song Yiguo’s vehicle followed, with several offensive-type Superpower Users specifically assigned to it.
Three more vehicles followed behind them.
To ensure everything was covered, Chen Xing rode in the very last vehicle.
The first half of the drive went smoothly. The zombies that lunged at them were either knocked aside or crushed under the wheels.
They quickly broke through the main horde and put some distance between themselves and the zombies.
At this rate, they would reach the airport and make their escape in no time.
But unexpectedly, while the first four vehicles passed without incident...
...when Chen Xing’s vehicle reached the same spot, the road was suddenly covered in Vajra Thorns.
The truck was already moving at high speed. The sudden halt sent it skidding a great distance. Fortunately, there was nothing to collide with, and it eventually screeched to a safe stop.
In that brief interval, the zombies had already swarmed them.
Their vehicle was a military truck carrying about sixty people.
Even if Song Yiguo and the others rushed back, there wouldn’t be enough time for everyone to get into the other vehicles.
"Tell them to keep going to the airport!" Chen Xing ordered the Superpower User in the driver’s seat to yell over the comms.
By the time the message was relayed to Song Yiguo, the zombies were already right on top of them. 𝑓𝑟ℯℴ𝓂
Chen Xing immediately waved her hand, raising an earthen wall over three meters high to block the zombies.
However, it was of little use; the zombies quickly toppled it.
Chen Xing planned to buy some time here, drawing the zombies’ attention so that Song Yiguo’s group could reach the airport without being pursued.
All the Superpower Users formed a defensive circle, facing outward.
Chen Xing did her best to erect earthen walls around their perimeter, trying to block the zombies’ advance and prevent them from injuring the Superpower Users.
But the sheer number of zombies was overwhelming.
With an intelligent zombie leading the attack, the horde quickly forced the Superpower Users into an ever-shrinking circle.
Two Superpower Users were unlucky enough to be scratched by the zombies.
’It’s over!’ they thought.
Resigned to their fate, the two injured Superpower Users said to their comrades, "There’s no hope for us. We’ll charge into the horde. Use the opening to find a way to escape!"
’We’re dead either way. It’s worth it if we can buy our comrades a chance to live.’
Having said their piece, they prepared to charge fearlessly into the zombie horde.
But an earthen wall suddenly shot up in front of them.
As they stared in astonishment, everything around them plunged into darkness.
It felt like they were in a descending elevator.
Someone turned on a light, revealing that they were completely enclosed by earthen walls.
The space wasn’t large, but for the moment, there was enough air to breathe.
"Where are we?" someone asked, bewildered.
"Just kill us both now," one of the bitten Superpower Users said, his voice strained with pain. "We don’t want to turn and attack our own comrades!"
They were soldiers. Dying on the battlefield was one thing, but becoming a monster that killed their own brothers was a fate they could never accept.
"Don’t be so quick to despair. Aren’t there rumors about Healing Ability Users who can cure all sorts of diseases? I heard that if their Level is high enough, they can even cure the zombie virus!"
"Hah... We’re trapped down here. How are we supposed to find a Healing Ability User? And even if we did, what makes you so sure their Level would be high enough to cure the virus? Besides, who’s to say they’d even agree to help us?" The two injured men shared the same bleak outlook.
The odds of getting cured were about the same as winning the lottery before the apocalypse.
After all, you could count the number of known Healing Ability Users on one hand.
"You’re in luck." Chen Xing felt confident her Healing Ability could cure the zombie virus.
’As far as I know,’ she thought, ’whenever a Healing Ability User is discovered, they’re supplied with an unlimited number of Crystal Cores to level up as quickly as possible.’
All eyes turned to Chen Xing.
Trapped in a place like this, surrounded by zombies, with two comrades about to turn at any moment... and she called this ’in luck’?
"I’m a Healing Ability User," she declared, stepping forward and pulling one of the injured soldiers toward her.
He had a long, deep gash on his arm. The entire limb had already turned black and was as stiff and rigid as a zombie’s.
Chen Xing grabbed his hand and began to channel her superpower into his body.
The moment she did, it was like discovering a new world.
She could clearly feel the Healing Ability she channeled into his body rapidly seeking out the source of his injuries.
It quickly located his arm.
The soldier’s outstretched arm slowly faded from black, returning to its natural skin tone. Finally, the wound itself began to vanish.
Everyone stared at this scene, utterly astonished.
Song Yiguo had been trying to recruit Healing Ability Users for a long time, but he had yet to find a single one.
According to rumors, not a single Healing Ability User had been discovered in the entire country.
And yet... this person they knew was actually a Healing Ability User?
How could they not be shocked?
"Th-thank you!" The healed soldier was at a loss for words, overwhelmed with emotion.
Chen Xing had given him a second chance at life!
"Don’t celebrate just yet." Chen Xing had to throw cold water on their excitement. "I’ve used too much of my superpower!"
This meant one of two things: either they would remain trapped underground, or the other zombie-bitten soldier couldn’t be saved.
Of course, this was a common problem that all Superpower Users eventually faced.
"I choose not to be treated," the other scratched Superpower User said without a moment’s hesitation.
The lives of the group were more important than his own.
He raised a knife, aimed it at his own stomach, and plunged it in without a second thought.
