Cooking Gourmet Meals in the Apocalypse
Chapter 283 - 280: Spiritual Zombie
Chapter 283: Chapter 280: Spiritual Zombie
Chen Xing threw a few bombs, scorching many of the trees. But for such a vast forest, the damage was like scratching an itch—not nearly destructive enough.
Besides, after a few bombs, the plants learned to dodge. Several grenades clearly missed the vegetation entirely.
Not wanting to waste any more bombs, Chen Xing switched to using her superpower.
Still, she was just one person.
Using her superpower constantly was too draining on her stamina and spiritual power.
Finally, she thought of the Black Vortex.
’I wonder if this thing will work on these plant monsters.’
Chen Xing immediately summoned a Black Vortex around the trees.
The suction of the Black Vortex was incredible.
Soon, a huge swath of trees was sucked inside, churning like a stormy sea.
As the trees vanished, the twinkling stars became visible in that patch of sky.
Seeing that it was effective, Chen Xing expanded the range of her Black Vortex, quickly clearing out a large, safe area.
She didn’t know if the Wisdom Tree had been sucked in or had just been scared into hiding, but no more plants came to attack her.
The ordeal had taken quite some time; she had been surrounded by plants for two hours.
Once she relaxed, she realized how much stamina she had consumed.
She immediately entered the Jiezhi Space to drink some spring water and replenish her energy, then went into the house within the space to sleep.
By the time she woke up, it was nearly noon the next day.
After eating a meal and feeding the cats, Chen Xing waited for the hottest part of the day to pass before emerging from the space.
She drove her RV, enjoying the air conditioning as she leisurely cruised through the southern region.
Given last night’s lesson, Chen Xing didn’t plan on stopping or operating in any more areas with plants.
But in the sweltering heat, it was as if the vegetation had already conquered the world; everywhere she looked was covered in green.
With no other choice, Chen Xing could only follow the road into the city.
It wasn’t dark yet, but the city was utterly silent. There were no zombies or monsters in sight, so peaceful it seemed devoid of all life.
It seemed the vegetation was also avoiding the city, as it hadn’t grown rampantly within it.
She parked her RV in the lot outside a shopping mall and led Meng Hu inside. The mall’s doors and windows were mostly destroyed.
With over an hour until nightfall, she decided to check the basement for a backup generator.
Her power reserves were depleting quickly; she was already down to half.
Perhaps because she was used to scarcity in her past life, she felt uneasy even with low power reserves.
She didn’t want to touch the power stored in her space unless it was absolutely necessary.
The apocalypse had only been going on for a year, so many things hadn’t completely broken down yet.
Driven by her unwillingness to be wasteful, Chen Xing headed straight down the stairs.
The staircase was built in the center of the mall, visible from all directions.
Even the first floor wasn’t very bright, and by the time she reached the first basement level, it was pitch-black.
Chen Xing let her eyes adjust to the darkness and continued downward with Meng Hu.
Backup generators in large buildings were usually located on the lowest level.
When she reached the bottom on the third basement level, Chen Xing’s vision was limited, and she could only see a small area in front of her.
In that small area alone, she saw many zombies lying on the ground.
Their bodies were entirely white, as if covered in a layer of ash, and their thinning hair was nearly all gone—a typical feature of Advanced Zombies.
In later stages, their abilities would increase further. All their hair would fall out, and they would no longer walk on two legs but crawl on all fours.
Most notably, they disliked daylight. Their cycles were reversed; they emerged at night and would collectively hide in dark places to rest during the day.
Dealing with zombies at that stage wasn’t something one or two Superpower Users could handle.
It would require a coordinated effort from High Level Superpower Users with extremely powerful offensive abilities to kill them.
They hadn’t reached that stage yet, so Chen Xing wasn’t too worried.
These current Advanced Zombies were still in a transitional phase.
Chen Xing moved lightly, making no sound.
She looked into the distance and saw the generator in the far back.
’Looks like it can still run. There’s a red light on.’
She just had to get over there and press the button to restore power to the mall, and she could take the opportunity to fully recharge her own power reserves.
But before she could move, Meng Hu somehow lost its footing and slid down the stairs.
And how big was it?
The resulting noise was not quiet, and the nearby zombies’ eyes snapped open.
They hadn’t actually been sleeping, just closing their eyes to adapt to the darkness.
Now, naturally, they were all drawn to the sound.
Especially after the first zombie let out a roar, Chen Xing looked again and...
The basement floor was covered everywhere with a dense carpet of Advanced Zombies.
But...
Chen Xing noticed that these zombies didn’t attack them immediately.
They waited a few seconds before suddenly surging toward them all at once.
’There’s a High Level Spiritual Zombie here!’
Chen Xing wasn’t sure if this type of zombie had high or low attack power on its own, but like humans, they possessed intelligence.
It could control zombies of a lower Level and organize their attacks according to its will.
Such coordinated battles were often far more dangerous than a chaotic free-for-all.
A Spiritual Zombie would observe the entire battlefield and make the best judgments.
Chen Xing immediately entered her Jiezhi Space, but she hadn’t yet absorbed the superpower of a Spiritual Ability User.
’I’ll have to fight them head-on!’
With so many zombies, she was at a disadvantage.
She immediately released a pack of black cats from her space.
After being upgraded by the space, these black cats were far more ferocious than before.
Their size had also tripled from their original, normal state.
They also went to the spring in the space every day to absorb its Spiritual Energy, causing their combat power to skyrocket.
Thrown into the horde of Advanced Zombies, it was practically a one-sided slaughter.
Sensing they were at a disadvantage, the zombies suddenly scattered in all directions.
Chen Xing didn’t let her pets give chase, instead having them stand by around her, ready for orders.
With no zombies blocking her way, she ran to the generator.
As the power came on, electricity was restored to the entire mall.
The zombies that didn’t manage to hide in time showed signs of agitation.
They quickly fled, trying to find dark places.
This was something Chen Xing hadn’t known.
’I knew Advanced Zombies liked the dark, but are they this averse to light?’
Instead of absorbing power in the basement, Chen Xing went up to the first floor, found a spot closest to the main entrance, and began to recharge herself.
As her space leveled up, the speed at which she absorbed electricity had increased.
If she wanted to, she could replenish her power reserves in an instant.
After her power was fully replenished, Chen Xing short-circuited the power supply.
Leaving the mall, she drove her RV off to find a place to stay.
The city looked fine from the outside, but once you entered the buildings, you would discover they were in a state of severe disrepair.
She found a high-rise that looked decent enough and parked her RV at its base.
She entered the building to look for a suitable place to stay.
Meanwhile, not far behind her, several zombies were watching her.
When she didn’t come out of the building after a long time, one of the zombies quickly departed, leaving the others to stand guard.
