Cooking Gourmet Meals in the Apocalypse
Chapter 153 - 150: How About I Just Take You to Go?
Chapter 153: Chapter 150: How About I Just Take You to Go?
"Our luck’s not bad today, huh? Running into so many beauties."
"Maybe God saw how desperate you were and decided to send some beauties your way, haha!"
"What the hell was God doing before this? If there really is a God, he should’ve sent me eighty or a hundred women. Only that many beautiful women would be worthy of me!"
"Pah! Aren’t you worried you’ll go limp? You can barely handle one, and you think you can take on a hundred?"
"Screw you! Who says I can’t handle it?"
"..."
Chen Xing listened to their filthy talk, dismissing it as nothing more than hot air, and simply released Meng Hu.
In the blink of an eye, all eight men were decapitated.
Just then, the truck made a U-turn and hurried back.
Dandan was the one who got out.
Seeing the bodies all over the ground, she was clearly stunned. "I recognized your RV, so I hurried back to see what was going on!"
She wasn’t an ungrateful person.
They had already escaped, but after spotting the RV in the rearview mirror, she explained the situation to Miaomiao, and the two of them turned the truck around.
This surprised Chen Xing.
’They looked scared to death just a moment ago, yet they still had the courage to come back for me.’
"You’re pretty brave, daring to come back." Chen Xing wasn’t looking down on her; on the contrary, she found her courage admirable.
"You saved us!" Dandan’s racing heart finally began to calm. "Thank you for saving us a second time!"
Chen Xing understood the implication in her words.
’There’s still someone in the truck.’
’Since she didn’t get out, it must be the injured girl.’
Dandan immediately ran back to the truck’s cargo bed. "Miaomiao, our benefactor is okay! You can stop worrying!"
Miaomiao was still in the cargo bed. With her leg injury, she couldn’t walk at all.
Dandan wasn’t strong enough to move her on her own, so she could only leave her in the cargo bed for the time being.
"As long as you’re okay. I was worried sick!" Miaomiao had been worried about Dandan, too.
"So you’re really powerful. You took care of those scumbags!" After saying this, Dandan ran back to Chen Xing. "I’m Dandan, and the injured girl in the truck is Miaomiao. I haven’t had a chance to ask for her last name yet!"
When everyone else fled, she saw that no one was looking after Miaomiao and couldn’t bear to leave her behind.
She had wanted to ask for help, but everyone was in such a rush to escape that no one was willing to lend a hand.
They had only learned each other’s names on the road by shouting through the truck’s sheet metal walls.
Chen Xing took a liking to Dandan and said, "I know a place where you two can live in safety."
Dandan glanced in Miaomiao’s direction, hesitant to make a decision.
’Chen Xing saved them, sure, but would it be reckless to just follow her like this?’
Chen Xing sensed Dandan’s wariness and didn’t press the issue. "If I wanted to hurt you, I wouldn’t have saved you."
With that said, she opened the RV door to get in, but Meng Hu jumped down and nuzzled against her leg.
Dandan: "..."
Although she was frightened, for some reason, seeing the tiger gave her a strange sense of trust in Chen Xing.
"Alright, then! We’ll be in your care!" Dandan figured that finding a safe place would be difficult for just her and the injured Miaomiao.
Forget the zombies—almost every person they encountered on the road these days had ill intentions.
People like Chen Xing, who would step in to help others, were rare.
’And then there was that tiger she had with her.’
’If she really wanted to harm them, would she even need to bother with all this talk?’
’Couldn’t she just snatch them away directly?’
Chen Xing and Dandan carried Miaomiao onto the RV.
After checking Miaomiao’s wound and treating it with some spring water, both internally and externally, they set off.
Just before nightfall, they found a small village to stop in.
As Chen Xing took out her cooking gear to prepare dinner, Dandan immediately came over to help.
Dry-fried squid, spinach with aged vinegar, braised chicken, century egg with tofu, smashed cucumber salad...
...plus two bags of frozen "three-delicacy" dumplings and noodles with shredded pork.
After tasting Chen Xing’s cooking, any lingering doubts Dandan and Miaomiao had were completely swept away.
Since the apocalypse began, they had never eaten so well.
Going hungry one meal and full the next was the norm; sometimes, they’d go two days without a single bite to eat.
The two girls were rather reserved and ate sparingly, putting down their chopsticks after only a short while.
’She doesn’t owe us anything. We should be grateful that she’s feeding us, but we can’t be shameless and eat our fill.’
"I made so much. If you don’t eat it, I’ll just have to throw it out," Chen Xing said coolly.
She understood how they felt.
’In my past life, I had felt the exact same way.’
’Accepting things from others always feels unsettling.’
"Then... we’ll just shamelessly help ourselves?" Dandan swallowed hard.
Chen Xing’s cooking was just too delicious; she’d had to use all her self-control just to put down her chopsticks in the first place.
"Thank you, Sister Chen Xing!" Miaomiao, being younger, saw Dandan pick up her chopsticks again and delightedly popped a dumpling into her mouth.
The table of food was quickly devoured by the three slender young women.
Inside the RV, besides Chen Xing’s master bedroom, there was a sofa bed.
The two girls shared it.
That night, they slept more soundly than they had since the apocalypse began.
’Was it because Meng Hu was there?’
Miaomiao felt her leg was much better; she could even stand up by leaning against a wall.
For breakfast, they had millet congee, boiled eggs, shepherd’s purse and pork buns, sweet custard buns, pickled mustard greens, shredded tripe salad, and shredded kelp... with a piece of fermented bean curd on the side.
For a moment, the two girls felt as if they had gone back in time to before the apocalypse.
That afternoon, they arrived at the factory complex.
Chen Xing didn’t go inside, instead meeting Brother Xiao outside.
Having not seen each other for many days, the two of them talked for a long while.
In the time she’d been gone, Brother Xiao had recruited quite a few new people.
He, Ding Yiyu, and Captain Lu had strictly vetted every candidate, only allowing those they deemed to have good character to stay.
"We’ve got customers coming to buy Crystal Cores almost every day now. Take these ledgers and look them over." Brother Xiao handed the account books to Chen Xing. "I never expected the demand for Crystal Cores to be this high. We’re about to sell out. It’s a good thing you got back when you did!"
The two of them had spoken on the phone before.
Chen Xing had told him she had Crystal Cores and would bring them over as soon as possible.
"Brother Xiao, what if we raise the price of the Crystal Cores?" The initial price had been based on what Chen Xing remembered from her past life, and Brother Xiao had set it accordingly.
"Raising the price is one option, but from what I hear, other people are already eyeing the Crystal Core business. Lately, a lot of Superpower Teams have popped up in the smaller cities around Hualai City, all hunting zombies. Some teams have even gotten into major fights over zombies, resulting in a lot of casualties!"
He didn’t know how the information had leaked, but the zombies everyone once fled from had now become a hot commodity.
He was a little worried about their Crystal Core business.
He had been waiting for Chen Xing to return so they could discuss it properly.
"It’s fine." Chen Xing had known this would happen.
’When the people of Huaxia see a business opportunity, their first instinct is to jump on it and ask questions later.’
’As for how many people jump in? Well, whoever makes the money is whoever moves the fastest.’
"They’ll only be fighting over them for a few more days. You know how it is—once something becomes common, its value drops. Worst case, we sell what we can, and if there’s any left over, we’re in no rush. We’ll just wait and see."
