Cooking Gourmet Meals in the Apocalypse
Chapter 137 - 134: Her Cooking Skills Are Good
Chapter 137: Chapter 134: Her Cooking Skills Are Good
"All those bullets and superpowers were aimed at you just now. How did you instantly know what to do, figure out where the bullets were coming from, and dodge them so precisely?" Song Yiguo was mystified.
For example, that first shot in the car was clearly aimed at Chen Xing’s head, but it was like she already knew. She just tilted her head and dodged it.
Moving fast enough to dodge a bullet isn’t something an ordinary Superpower User can do, let alone a shot from an ambush.
Chen Xing was taken aback by the question.
’Yeah!’
’How did I dodge it? How did I react so quickly?’
’Thinking about it, I’m just... sensitive. Much more sensitive than a normal person. I can sense what direction danger is coming from.’
But... if someone asked her to explain the feeling, she wouldn’t be able to put it into words.
"I don’t know!" Chen Xing answered honestly. "I guess I’m just especially sensitive!"
Song Yiguo was speechless. ’I’d love to have that kind of sensitivity.’
Open attacks are easy to dodge, but hidden ones are hard to guard against. With that kind of sensitivity, he’d have nothing to fear no matter where he went.
"If you don’t want to talk about it, forget it." Song Yiguo leaned back on the bed and called Yan Junxi.
It didn’t matter if he believed her or not.
Chen Xing went to the kitchen to make something to eat.
The call connected, and Yan Junxi’s worried voice came through. "Are you okay? I just heard you ran into assassins. I was just about to call you."
"I’m fine, don’t worry! What about you? Are you doing okay? My old man hasn’t been giving you a hard time, has he?" It seemed all of Song Yiguo’s tenderness was reserved for Yan Junxi; only with him did he ever show such gentleness.
"No! I don’t think your dad has time to bother me. When he heard you were being hunted by assassins, he got furious and already paid a visit to the Situ family. Yiguo... your dad really cares about you. When you get back, you should stop being so angry with him."
"I know, but I can’t stand him constantly giving you a hard time! I’m the one who can’t live without you. He shouldn’t always be going after you!"
"He hasn’t really done anything to me, just tried to persuade me to leave you! Don’t worry, as long as your heart doesn’t change, I won’t be swayed."
"..."
"Do you miss me?"
"I do. You?"
"I miss you too. So, so much!"
"So when are you coming back?"
Hearing this question, Chen Xing, who was chopping vegetables, paused.
’I want to go back too!’
’I don’t want to stay in this godforsaken place for a second longer.’
Song Yiguo hesitated for a moment before speaking. "We’re sticking to the original plan."
"What?"
What?
How was Chen Xing supposed to know the exact plan?
Now, she was even more curious.
"So that means it’ll still be several days? Didn’t you run into danger? You shouldn’t stay there. It’s safer back in the Capital City!"
"Don’t worry, I’ll protect myself. Just wait for me a few more days." Song Yiguo normally didn’t like to leave the Capital City.
He had only come personally this time for the sake of the oil.
Seemingly realizing he couldn’t persuade Song Yiguo, Yan Junxi didn’t press the issue. "Then... you have to be careful. You must come back safe and sound!" However, his tone had a sour, jealous edge to it.
For every day Song Yiguo had been gone with Chen Xing, Yan Junxi had felt his heart ache with jealousy.
’What if Song Yiguo and Chen Xing develop feelings for each other after spending so much time together?’
’One was his lover, the other a benefactor. He couldn’t bring himself to hate either of them.’
"Mm... Love you..." Song Yiguo whispered the last two words.
Yan Junxi’s jealousy was instantly suppressed.
On the other side, Chen Xing wasn’t doing so well. She couldn’t help but shudder, goosebumps breaking out all over her skin.
"Are we still going to the seed bank?" Chen Xing asked casually. "When are we leaving?"
’In any case, Song Yiguo is in control of this trip. Even if I want to go back, there’s nothing I can do.’
’The most important thing is the seeds. I want them.’
’My space has a lot of stuff in it, but there’s also a huge patch of empty land, perfect for planting.’
"If nothing unexpected happens, we’ll leave the day after tomorrow. If something does happen, we might leave first thing tomorrow morning," Song Yiguo replied as he walked toward the kitchen.
The aroma was just too good.
"What is this? You even bring scallions, ginger, garlic, and seasonings with you when you travel?" ’No wonder she doesn’t eat outside. Turns out she’s been eating her fill in the room.’
"I don’t trust the food outside." Chen Xing saw Song Yiguo swallow and felt a pang of regret for her noodles, but... since he had just added a huge batch of supplies to her space, she figured she could treat it as a thank-you gift.
’Who could blame her? She was the type to always repay a favor.’
"Want some?"
Song Yiguo didn’t pay much attention to what Chen Xing meant by not trusting the food outside. He nodded without ceremony. "I’ll have a bowl."
He hadn’t had the appetite to eat earlier, worried that he wouldn’t secure the supplies. He was starving.
Chen Xing was making beef noodle soup.
On top of the cooked, hand-pulled noodles lay some green vegetables and a generous layer of large beef chunks, all sprinkled with chopped scallions and topped with a large spoonful of chili oil. It smelled absolutely divine.
A side of cold-dressed cucumber and a side of cold-dressed shredded dried tofu completed the meal.
Song Yiguo was speechless. ’Bringing seasonings is a bit strange. Bringing hand-pulled noodles... he could chalk that up to a long shelf life. But beef? Cucumbers? Dried tofu?’
’Don’t all these things need to be refrigerated?’
"I brought it all vacuum-sealed. It’ll be fine for ten days," Chen Xing said. She knew this old fox would be suspicious.
’I and my big mouth. Why did I even ask if he wanted some?’
Song Yiguo had only asked casually. He picked up his chopsticks, took a bite, and instantly felt that everything he had gone through today was worth it.
The taste and texture were in no way inferior to the food at the National Capital Hotel.
"I never would have guessed you were such a good cook." Song Yiguo’s praise was sincere.
He was a picky eater; ordinary food rarely caught his interest.
It was the aroma that had drawn him in, plus the fact that he was genuinely hungry. Otherwise, he really wouldn’t have taken the initiative to come over and ask for food.
Chen Xing didn’t answer him. She just picked up her own bowl, which was twice the size of his, and started eating.
’Mmm!’
’My cooking skills *are* good!’
’I don’t remember ever making this before, but as soon as I step into a kitchen, it’s like a robot with an automatic system installed. Everything just comes so naturally.’
After eating, Chen Xing lay down.
’Song Yiguo said that if something unexpected happened, we’d leave tomorrow morning?’
’Does this mean... if something else happens in the Capital City, we can leave immediately?’
’What could happen that would make the people of the Capital City too busy to pay attention to them?’
’Heh heh!’
About an hour before dawn, Chen Xing got up.
She was going to liven up the Capital City and get some revenge while she was at it.
Dressed in black again, she used a rope to get to Room 2903.
’This guy... he went through one disaster and still didn’t learn his lesson. The bathroom window is still open.’
’In that case, he can’t blame me for what happens next!’
Chen Xing left the room and ran down the stairs all the way to the first floor without being stopped once.
In the lobby, a front desk clerk was asleep with their head pillowed on their arms on the counter. Two security guards were also asleep, leaning against the wall on either side of the entrance.
No one woke up even as Chen Xing walked out.
After crossing the main street, Chen Xing appeared outside the Royal Palace.
Two rows of guards stood at the main gate, with several patrols making their rounds.
’Old man Baya sure is cautious.’
Chen Xing circled around to a section of the wall. It was four meters high, and the barbed wire on top was electrified.
She first threw a plastic sheet over it, then a leather jacket, and with two quick steps, she was up and over.
