Cooking Gourmet Meals in the Apocalypse
Chapter 123 - 120: The Little Notebook
Chapter 123: Chapter 120: The Little Notebook
Song Yiguo also felt very apologetic toward Yan Junxi.
That whole fiasco yesterday wasn’t just to deal with the Situ family and his old man; it was also for the sake of today’s meeting.
Baling Country was world-renowned for its abundant resources.
The entire world may have fallen into an apocalypse, but Baling Country hadn’t suffered much. Thanks to its sparse population, they had brought the outbreak under control quickly.
Combined with its fertile land and the fact that they had seemingly predicted the apocalypse—stockpiling supplies purchased cheaply from around the world beforehand—it was one of the few nations with no shortage of food or water.
Without last night’s announcement, Chen Xing wouldn’t have been able to enter Baling Capital City legitimately.
The guest list had been finalized long ago.
But since she was publicly recognized as Song Yiguo’s girlfriend, Baling made an exception and added her to the list.
As for Yan Junxi... Song Yiguo had already explained everything to him very clearly last night.
Yan Junxi hadn’t said anything, but his displeasure was written all over his face.
’I’ll just have to find something he likes to appease him when we get back.’
"Just stick close to me for now. Once we get to the hotel, I’ll get you a discreet translator."
"Young Master Song... we’re being followed!" Vice General Du, sitting in the passenger seat, had noticed two cars tailing them.
Chen Xing was busy with an offline game on her phone and didn’t even look up.
’Song Yiguo would definitely handle it, so there was no need for her to worry.’
The three stone-faced men in the car also looked completely unconcerned, not even bothering to glance back.
Vice General Du had mentioned they were all in their early thirties, but at a glance, they looked closer to fifty.
’I wonder if it’s from keeping their faces so rigid all the time, or if they were just born looking old.’
Song Yiguo sounded impatient. "Let the rear team handle it!"
He’d barely gotten off the plane and someone was already making a move. This was exactly why he never wanted to leave the safe zone.
If it wasn’t absolutely necessary for either him or his old man to come in person this time, he never would have put himself in this position.
Vice General Du made a call. A moment later, two explosions echoed from behind them.
The soaring flames briefly illuminated the interior of their car.
Just when Song Yiguo thought the problem was solved, a massive truck suddenly shot out from a side road, ramming straight toward their car.
It seemed to be aimed directly at Chen Xing, its front grille barreling precisely toward the rear-right door where she sat.
Never mind Chen Xing, who was in the most danger; if that thing hit, the chances of anyone else surviving were slim.
After all, it was a massive semi-truck. The cab alone was several times the size of their own vehicle.
The moment before impact, a sudden force lifted their car into the air, allowing them to perfectly evade the truck’s collision.
The driver from Baling Country was terrified. He was still reeling from the initial shock when the car was hoisted into the air, leaving him clutching the steering wheel, too frightened to speak.
A few seconds later, their car landed back on the road, completely unscathed.
Song Yiguo, his expression grim, said something to the driver.
Chen Xing couldn’t understand the language, but she guessed he was telling the man to drive.
After composing himself, the driver quickly sped away.
To be safe, he floored it, abandoning their previously steady pace.
He couldn’t let his distinguished guests get hurt, but the driver also valued his own life.
Chen Xing glanced back at the bus behind them, where a Superpower User in his twenties was ducking back inside.
’I remember this kind of levitation superpower from my past life. It was extremely rare; I’d only ever seen it in videos.’
’It seems Song Yiguo’s Superpower Group is full of talented individuals.’
A little further down the road, Vice General Du’s phone rang. After he hung up, he reported to Song Yiguo, "We just interrogated the truck driver. The attackers were sent by the Situ family!"
Song Yiguo wasn’t the least bit surprised.
That Miss Situ would go on a killing spree whenever things didn’t go her way. This wasn’t the first time, nor the second.
But this was the first time she’d dared to make a move on *him*.
"Call the old man," Song Yiguo said, relishing the opportunity. "Tell him the Situ family attacked me and I almost died!"
This way, his old man could no longer try to entangle him with the Situ family.
Chen Xing mentally added this to her little black book.
’Situ Yuanyuan really has a long reach, trying to have me killed all the way out here.’
’That truck was clearly aimed at me.’
If that Superpower User hadn’t moved the car, she had already been channeling all of her energy into her hands, preparing to strike the truck.
She wasn’t sure if she could have sent the truck flying, but she was confident she could have at least forced it to a stop.
She had even tested the power of her arms on Meng Hu.
At the time, Meng Hu had been charging at nearly a hundred miles per hour when she sent it flying with a single punch.
Poor Meng Hu had been knocked flat. She later had to place it in her dimensional space to soak in spring water for several days before it recovered.
After that, no matter how Chen Xing tried to coax it, Meng Hu refused to ever charge at her again.
The semi-truck was big and heavy, but its speed hadn’t reached a hundred, so it was still within a range she could handle.
The rest of the journey was uneventful.
But it was a long drive; it took nearly two hours to finally enter Baling Capital City.
The outskirts of Baling Capital City were protected by walls several meters high. Inside, it was a picture of prosperity. The streets looked just as they had before the apocalypse, with all sorts of shops open for business.
People watched curiously as the cars entered, showing no signs that they were living through an apocalypse.
Their convoy passed through several long streets in the Capital City before reaching their destination: the Capital City Hotel.
The Capital City Hotel was divided into three sections.
The first three floors of the main building served as the reception area.
The ground floor was for welcoming honored guests, while the second and third floors contained lounges, a coffee shop, and restaurants.
Behind it stood two towers, one thirty-nine stories and the other forty-two, which housed the actual hotel rooms.
The moment Song Yiguo stepped out of the car, an acquaintance approached to greet him.
Song Yiguo, ever prepared, stepped out of the car. His posture was ramrod straight, and an air of nobility and inviolable authority instantly emanated from him.
He wore a diplomatic smile as he extended his hand.
Chen Xing, who had followed him out, paid no mind to Song Yiguo’s phony act.
Her entire attention was fixed on Situ Yuanyuan, who was standing in the hotel lobby.
’That bitch. How dare she show her face here?’
’Look at that jealous, hateful expression on her face. Anyone who didn’t know better would think *she* was the one who almost got run over and killed.’
Chen Xing wanted to walk right over and do something about it. Of course, she wasn’t going to kill her in front of all these people.
But Song Yiguo seemed to notice her intention and grabbed her by the wrist. "This is my girlfriend," he announced.
Although Chen Xing didn’t understand the language he was speaking, she could guess the gist of it and forced herself to suppress her anger.
The other man appeared to be from one of the downstream Eastern nations; his features were distinctly Eastern, yet subtly different. He extended his hand and said a few polite words.
From his expression alone, Chen Xing could tell he was trying to curry favor.
Chen Xing had no choice but to play along, giving his hand a light shake.
Just then, after a brief internal struggle, Situ Yuanyuan plastered a smile on her face. Her lips curled as she ran up to Song Yiguo. "Brother Yiguo, what took you so long? I’ve been waiting for ages!"
Inwardly, however, she was seething with hatred for Chen Xing. The men she had sent had actually failed.
