Chapter 116: Chapter 113: Boundless Radiance

Since Chen Xing had decided to get the RV, she naturally wasn’t going to concern herself with Situ Yuanyuan, even after hearing her vicious tone.

All she wanted to do right now was eat.

Her palate had been spoiled over the past couple of days. The slightest hunger now felt unbearable.

Seeing the table already laid out with a full spread, Chen Xing didn’t stand on ceremony. She picked up her bowl and chopsticks and started stuffing food into her mouth.

"Slow down, it’s all for you!" Song Yiguo knew Chen Xing had a big appetite, but he was still taken aback to see the table nearly cleared in an instant.

’A woman like that will probably never get married!’

Of course, Chen Xing had no idea what Song Yiguo was thinking. She put down her chopsticks, let out an unabashed burp, and said, "I’m good now!"

She didn’t even get this nervous when she was out killing people and zombies.

Song Yiguo stood up. "Go change your clothes and get some rest. Someone will come get you when it’s time for your entrance."

Chen Xing looked down at her outfit. ’It’s not that bad, is it?’

She had never attended a banquet before, so she naturally didn’t know there was a dress code.

However, recalling Situ Yuanyuan’s attire from earlier, she knew she really did need to change.

Song Yiguo walked over and opened the door to find Vice General Du standing ramrod straight at the entrance, dressed in a suit. He was quite a sight.

In terms of looks, Vice General Du was in no way inferior to Song Yiguo.

He just lacked a bit of Song Yiguo’s commanding presence.

"Your job today is to protect Chen Xing!" Song Yiguo had deliberately assigned Vice General Du to this task.

Normally, a person of Vice General Du’s status wouldn’t be allowed inside unless there was an emergency.

One, to protect Chen Xing, and two, so she wouldn’t be too bored when she was alone.

"Yes, sir!" replied Vice General Du. He was uncomfortable in the suit but still maintained his military bearing.

After Song Yiguo left, Vice General Du took Chen Xing to pick out a formal gown.

By the time everything was ready, Chen Xing felt like she was getting hungry again.

Picking out a dress, getting her hair done, putting on makeup... the whole process took nearly three hours.

For the sake of her beloved RV, she endured it.

Vice General Du had also been waiting outside the dressing room for nearly three hours.

Bound by military discipline, even in the lounge, he sat ramrod straight, his eyes fixed forward without wavering.

A few young girls were huddled in a corner, shooting him looks of admiration.

Used to being stared at, Vice General Du felt no pressure at all.

Just then, the door in front of Vice General Du opened.

Chen Xing emerged into the light, looking as if she were stepping out of a brilliant aura, so dazzling that one dared not look directly at her.

That was exactly how Vice General Du felt.

He knew Chen Xing was exceptionally beautiful, but he had never expected her to be this radiant.

"She’s so beautiful!" The girls who had been staring at Vice General Du were now captivated by the radiant Chen Xing, their praise sincere.

Dressed in the gorgeous gown, Chen Xing didn’t feel the least bit uncomfortable. She walked straight up to Vice General Du and said, "Let’s go."

To her, getting this over with and claiming her RV was more important than anything else.

Vice General Du rose, his ramrod-straight figure leading the way for Chen Xing.

Young Master Song had already called; they were just waiting for Chen Xing to be ready before heading straight over.

The girls who had a crush on Vice General Du saw his deferential treatment of Chen Xing, and they were instantly overcome with jealousy.

’How could their dreamboat be so subservient to another woman?’

Chen Xing ignored the girls and followed Vice General Du toward the banquet hall.

She wasn’t a descendant of some prestigious family. Even as Cao Guangrong’s biological daughter, she was just one of thousands of rich people, hardly what one would call "high society"—and that was all based on her pre-apocalyptic status, anyway.

Since she was a nobody here, she had nothing to lose.

It was quiet outside the banquet hall, with only two men guarding the door.

Seeing Chen Xing approach, they immediately opened the doors with deference.

"Young Master Song is waiting for you inside," Vice General Du said, his posture still robotically straight. He was, however, a little worried about her.

He never paid much attention to Young Master Song’s romantic affairs, but he knew the general situation. Chen Xing was just being sent in as cannon fodder.

Chen Xing gave a nod of thanks to Vice General Du, then strode into the banquet hall.

Just inside the entrance to the banquet hall stood a large decorative screen, blocking the view from the outside.

As she rounded the screen, Chen Xing’s figure came into view of the entire hall.

Chen Xing was speechless. An instant headache set in.

’The Four Great Families?’

’There must be at least two or three hundred people here...’

’I thought a banquet for the Four Great Families would be a small affair.’

There were so many people that aside from those near the entrance, practically no one noticed her arrival.

Of course, the stunned expressions of the people at the door didn’t escape her notice.

She had seen herself in the mirror. She didn’t look that different from usual. In fact, by her own aesthetic standards, her everyday look was much more refreshing.

’These people are really overreacting.’

Her eyes swept the room, and she quickly spotted Song Yiguo chatting with someone.

The only other person she recognized in the entire hall was Situ Yuanyuan.

Just then, the other woman spotted her. Beyond her expression of disbelief, she shot Chen Xing a hostile glare.

Ignoring Situ Yuanyuan’s glare, she walked straight toward Song Yiguo.

She didn’t approach him directly, however, instead stopping a short distance away.

She didn’t know exactly what she was supposed to do; the only thing she knew for sure was that she had to sabotage the marriage alliance between the Song Family and the Situ family.

’Am I supposed to just find my own opportunity to make sure the alliance fails, and that’s it?’

After a few minutes, the man chatting with Song Yiguo seemed to notice Chen Xing. "Young Master Song," he said, "is this young lady a friend of yours?"

Song Yiguo turned and saw Chen Xing in a short, black evening dress.

’That black dress...’

’It suited Chen Xing perfectly.’

Like a proud black swan, not only did the dress conceal her overly slender figure, but it also made her long, straight, and rarely seen legs seem to go on for miles.

All the other women in the banquet hall were wearing long gowns; she was the only one who stood out.

Yet her distinctive choice didn’t seem jarring.

The ladies of the families would almost always choose long gowns for such occasions to project an air of nobility.

However, that often made them look uninspired and less eye-catching.

So, they would try to make a statement with the bodices of their dresses.

Long gowns with exposed backs and shoulders had become the standard uniform for these banquets.

But Chen Xing, in her uniqueness, blended perfectly into the atmosphere of the banquet.

"Mr. Qian, if you’ll excuse me for a moment." After offering a polite apology, Song Yiguo left Mr. Qian and walked over to Chen Xing. "You’re here."

To be honest, he found Chen Xing’s beauty stunning, far beyond what he had imagined.

It had nothing to do with affection; he simply, sincerely felt that she was a rare beauty.

Usually, her casual attire, lack of effort in dressing up, and extraordinary abilities always made people overlook her beauty.

It seemed he had made the right decision in asking Chen Xing for help. This would definitely be enough to convince his father.

Chen Xing nodded and leaned in slightly. "So, what do I do next?"

She figured Song Yiguo’s only goal in bringing her here was to make Situ Yuanyuan give up and to have her draw all the aggro.

For the sake of the RV, drawing that aggro was worth it.

Besides, she’d already made an enemy of Situ Yuanyuan. She didn’t really mind piling on a bit more.
