Contract Marriage: Married to My Ex-Husband's Alpha Stepfather [BL]
Chapter 465: The Deadly Obsession Holding Flowers For Dinner
[FROLO]
With Katya back, everything that had been paused resumed. Sure, the Hercules team stayed dismantled, and Sergei still worked with the six, but the change was evident.
Sergei smiled more, murdered even more.
He committed murders like it was what breakfast with Katya was for him. He took lives without thinking twice.
So much so that by the end of the third week since he got Katya back, Sergei had killed all the soldiers who had been assigned to Katya in the bunker and those who had transported them.
The only soldier who lived from that lot...
Was Chief Zhenya.
Sergei didn’t tell Zhenya about the miscarriage. He didn’t even tell the Romanovs because he believed it wasn’t his story to tell.
That it wasn’t his pain to share, and honestly, it was either the kindest thing he’d done in the last three weeks or it was easily the greatest show of restraint.
Especially for a man who had made sure to murder everyone linked to Katya’s holding.
The doctor who had diagnosed Katya was among those whom Sergei didn’t kill, really, probably because that was the first doctor who didn’t make Katya feel like a tool or even try to use Katya’s fears against him.
Gill, Sergei had learned, was her name.
Doctor Gill.
The woman who had given his mate the care Katya needed in those five weeks of capture.
Maybe Sergei was projecting and being overly thankful to a woman who did her job, but then the last doctor who had to attend to Katya had made Katya’s fears into the worst of things.
To thank her, Sergei financed her private clinic.
The funds came in the name of Romanov Steel; that way, it wasn’t considered dirty, and it wouldn’t link the doctor to Sergei’s gratitude. Because after all, it was an expected move that couldn’t be stretched too far from Katya anyway.
Sergei, on the other hand, didn’t go back to work.
Not as the chairman, and he sure as hell didn’t keep his hair longer than necessary. He told Rastenkin and Anya that it was a new look he loved, but deep down Sergei had made a promise to himself.
He would not let his hair grow long until he cleaned up everyone who had touched his omega in one way or the other.
That he would stay as bald as he was today until he avenged Katya.
It didn’t matter how long it took anyway because wolves had long lifespans of up to four hundred years and sometimes more if the wolf was higher ranking, like Sergei.
And in Frolo, where most people were modern wolves, all Sergei had...
...was time.
Didn’t matter if it would take Sergei ten years, twenty, fifty.
Sergei would not rest until he avenged his Solnyshka.
The videos he’d sent Boris and his wife of their lovers being murdered had not gotten Sergei a public reaction from the president, just like he had predicted.
President Boris was a man dead set on showing that he was a family man.
Which was why he and his wife, despite the public circus, could not step out into the public and accuse Sergei of murdering that batch of people.
Because then there would be questions of who they were to the presidential palace.
Of why Sergei targeted them.
Frankly, it was a long sequence that President Boris didn’t have the energy to deal with. Especially given Zhenya had broken up with him for it. He was not willing to burn whatever decency he had left because of Sergei.
And so they moved on.
In public.
Addressing concerns like a good first family. Apologizing where it was needed.
While behind closed doors, the marriage that had been perfected for the public was falling apart even more than it already had when they chose to have different lovers.
"He murdered them all, Boris!! All of them. And sent us a video and you won’t do shit? Why the fuck kind of a president are you? Are you ornamental?" the first lady raged, her disbelief so strong that the president had expected.
Honestly, even he couldn’t believe that Sergei Moskowsky had done what had happened. It was so cruel that there wasn’t even a name for that kind of cruelty yet.
Who was even supposed to go after the man?
"You’re only raging because he murdered even your favorite, who you thought wouldn’t be affected," President Boris lashed out before a shouting match ensued.
It had been the same for several days now, and frankly it was tiring. But then they were also the First Family, which meant that no one could really tell them shit about it.
Zhenya, who could have been a way out, was still angry that the president had cheated on him with forty-six different men and women in the twenty years they had been sleeping together.
He wasn’t even going to try.
Meanwhile, inside Romanov Steel, Masha and Yuriy Romanov had just learned of the misfortunes that had befallen their son in captivity. They had learned of the miscarriage and how bad things were in there.
Masha was a sobbing mess, crying for her child who had suffered so much else again. It hurt so badly.
Mr. Romanov... just listened.
He was thinking.
He knew for a fact that Zhenya wouldn’t have hurt Katya on anyone’s orders if he knew Katya was expecting. Which raised even more questions about the team that had been assigned to handle Katya.
Katya, on the other hand, just silently wiped tired tears from his eyes.
He had cried so much about it while in captivity that he had somehow gotten numb to that truth. The fact that someone had gotten access to him again and taken what he loved the most.
It was a cycle Katya didn’t want to continue, and he begged his parents to let it go.
But Yuriy...
Mr. Romanov was too angry.
Too sick of being on the sidelines while his only son suffered.
And like Sergei, who had refused to forgive the people involved, Mr. Romanov took a stance too.
"I love you, Michka. But I will not let them go. You can try persuading me, son, though I must let you know upfront.
"...Someone will die for what happened to you. If not someone. Then people," Mr. Romanov said softly, like he wasn’t telling his son that he was going to burn the city for him.
It was a dangerous proposition, but Mr. Romanov was done sitting on the sidelines too.
"Why does our child always have to suffer, Romanov?" Masha cried tiredly.
Her son had only just found happiness with Sergei.
The devil had proven to be a better man than most in Frolo, and it was unsettling yet challenging, too.
Because if Sergei, for all his cruelty, knew what humanity was and made sure to be kinder to their child, there was no reason the city wasn’t kind to the kindest of omegas.
It just didn’t make sense.
And Katya watched as his father comforted his mother, despite knowing that not much would be done.
Still, it was something worth holding onto.
Family.
On the other side of the city, inside the Bratva HQ, Kenzo and Alek had gotten a very familiar house guest munching nuts in their hands.
One they didn’t feel like hosting, yet one that they had to stay and host properly or lose their heads.
It was not what they had thought their days would be like since the return of Katya, but what the hell, right? No one knew anything lately anyway.
"You won’t believe me if I say I came in peace... So... errr... wanna fight and get it over with?"
