[FROLO]

"A contract Marriage? In this age and time?"

"Unbelievable. The senator needs to find a way to save his reputation without making shit up."

"Sergei Moskowsky and a contract Marriage to his son’s husband? What the fuck?"

"So, the devil really has no codes or limitations to stay attuned to."

The reactions to Aleksandr’s presser were expected. The city didn’t believe a thing he was saying. Some said that he was making this up because it was the last fight of a dying dog.

But was it?

Aleksandr looked straight into the camera, a smirk on his face like he knew what he was doing. Like he was determined to make sure Sergei didn’t get away with whatever the fuck he was forcing Katya to do.

He knew the truth wasn’t pretty, but what the fuck kind of a relationship was he to stay having with Katya if his boyfriend was married to a madman?

It made absolutely no sense, but that was why Alek was here.

To free Katya... right?

No ulterior motives, no?

"What proof do you have of that?" one of the journos asked, and Aleksandr’s focus stayed on the camera he knew was live-streaming.

It was dangerous, what he was insinuating, but he looked like a man who had gotten the chance to free his beloved and wasn’t letting it go.

"Why do you think Sergei hasn’t acted on the traitor rumors about my boyfriend? Is it because he is sure my boyfriend wouldn’t betray him because of the contract;

"... or he just doesn’t care as long as he has my boyfriend around him?" Alek asked, the smile on his face falling along with it. He looked devastated, like this was the one time to make the world see Sergei for who he was.

Then again, he knew this was insane still because Sergei could either retaliate or kill him.

Where they were at right now, there was no certainty about anything Sergei did or would be doing, and that was horrifying.

Because the madman hadn’t just been challenged.

He was unstable on a normal day.

What of now with these accusations?

"We all know about the miscarriage and what it did to my boyfriend. Sergei forced him to sign the papers on his bed. Barely hours after his surgery. He didn’t even wait for him to heal.

"He shoved the contract in Katya’s face, taking advantage of the fact that his son was already cheating with Milan. If you want proof, check the day Yaroslav Gamov had a cut ear," Alek said angrily as he stared into the cameras still.

The city remembered that day, alright.

The day Sergei Moskowsky had harmed his son publicly for the first time. It was the one time that everyone was confused as to what had happened because it was always Sergei protecting Yaroslav. Not hurting Yaroslav.

Yet that day... Sergei had hurt his son intentionally.

He had broken his son’s heart without thinking twice about it. What the hell was there to refute anymore?

And so, the city erupted in belief.

But inside the Moskowsky penthouse, a television was broken against the wall. It had a dent from a vase that had been suddenly thrown in the kind of rage that had everyone who had just walked in pause.

"This is bad," Volkov said before he began making calls.

"Sergei, you can’t," Anya rushed to a seething alpha who was so close to throwing something else at the already trashed television on the wall.

In the middle of it all, too shocked to react. Too betrayed to voice a word, was Katya Romanov.

He was still staring at the TV. Or whatever was left of it.

Katya couldn’t believe what he had been hearing.

His miscarriage.

The lowest point in his life.

His greatest wound that he’d never been able to heal from.

The same wound that Sergei had told him a few days ago that the doctors said he’d always have high-risk pregnancies.

That wound.

His boyfriend, the man he cared for, had just reopened it. Not in private while they fought. But in public, dragging it into the mess that befell the former senator.

He used it as an argument.

When there were so many arguments to focus on.

When there were so many pointers.

Yet Alek chose that one.

The one that he’d not even started accepting yet.

So, he watched as the world around him spun.

As Anya struggled to calm down a seething Sergei. As Anya tried to reason with the alpha like this was not the time. He watched as Volkov spoke into the phone, and a group of people walked into the penthouse like they were preparing themselves for something.

"He’s gonna pay for that," Sergei growled in rage, something that Katya watched in sorrow. He didn’t even have the strength to say yes or no to Sergei.

All he could think of was the twelve pints of blood that hadn’t even been enough to stabilize him.

The way Yaro had hurt him inside that very hospital.

And now his unexpected savior was here, raging. Unwilling to let anyone use that as a form of argument.

"You can’t kill the senator. He’s Romanov’s boyfriend!!" Anya reasoned, and Sergei still raged. There was nothing to think of. There was nothing to assume anymore.

Aleksandr had crossed a line that in Sergei’s eyes was worse than his association with the bratva. Alek could have discussed the contract without touching on that day. On that night. In that season. He could have used different ways.

And the fact that he knew of a contract that only the Moskowsky associates at the courthouse knew of meant that someone had betrayed Sergei.

That someone had leaked important information to a reckless senator for a possible payday. Or maybe it was the angle that Alek was waiting to use all this time.

After all, a man who could go to the bratva in the name of jealousy couldn’t be trusted to think rationally where sane minds were involved, no?

But Sergei...

"I won’t kill him, Anya. Not unless Solnyshka asks me to. But he’s gonna pay for that," Sergei growled as the people who had come in unmounted the TV and took it out.

Interestingly, another crew came with what looked like another TV from the penthouse storeroom... and mounted the new one.

"Should we turn it on?" one of them asked Volkov.

"Dude, read the room and get the fuck out before your head is used as a pivot for that shit," Volkov said, and the second crew did their work before leaving.

And Volkov went back to making calls.

"Pull the chord," Sergei said.

Suddenly... Volkov’s phone fell to the ground.

Anya, who was trying to speak sense to him, stepped back three steps like she had been burned by the alpha’s very presence.

"Young master... You can’t... You..." Anya trailed off, her head bowed, as Sergei threw the tablet to the ground, the object falling hard.

She knew this wasn’t the idiot who ran around chuckling about kisses and breakfasts.

This...

This was the young master she had helped raise.

The devil of Frolo.

Volkov looked like he’d just been shot in the heart.

"Someone betrayed me, Anya. The contract? It was meant to protect the love of my life, not to be used as a bargain. So, pull the damn chord," Sergei seethed before adding:

"...or I will."

Oh, but his eyes were soulless.

Turning to Katya, Sergei walked over to his omega before lowering himself onto his knees, hands resting on his thighs, his eyes lost...

"I’ll fix the leak, Solnyshka... but I fear you won’t like that version of me. So, I hope you can forgive me for not letting this go."

Meanwhile, a devastated-looking Anya turned to Volkov...

"Call the shopkeeper."

And Katya... he could finally see why everyone was terrified of being a traitor to the devil of Frolo.
