Contract Marriage: Enemies With Benefits
Chapter 70: Touching him when he sleeps
Sienna leaned close and softly caressed his eyelashes with her finger tip. Her finger then gently slid down the bridge of his nose.
Just as her finger reached his lips, Sienna snapped to her senses and realized what she was doing. She hurriedly retracted her hand as if she was electrocuted.
But firm fingers wrapped around her wrist, holding her hand in place.
Startled, Sienna looked at Callahan who was already looking at her, with a hint of a smile on her face.
She was already leaning close to him. The man yanked her hand lightly and Sienna fell on top of him.
The position seemed rather compromising especially because he was tucked under the blankets. If anyone were to walk in, it would look like Sienna was doing something to him.
"What are you doing? Let me go," Sienna struggled but the amusement in his eyes only grew as he pulled her closer.
When she saw the bandages on his hands, she didn’t dare to struggle much, afraid of hurting him.
"You can tear open my wounds and push me to get away from me," the man said in a gentle voice, "I won’t mind.’’
’Harmless, my ass. He is evil,’ Sienna groaned in her mind.
"What is it? Do you like touching me only when I am asleep?" Callahan looked like a man who was wronged, "Then, shall I close my eyes now?"
Those words sounded so flirtatious and teasing that Sienna pursed her lips, feeling the heat growing in her face.
Seeing the cocky little smirk on his face, she was even more incensed.
Suddenly, a glint flickered in her eyes.
"I suddenly remember something really interesting," Sienna crossed her arms on his chest and looked at him with a smile, "We had a bet and you lost it."
"How did I lose it?" Callahan asked.
"Are you going back on your words now? You clearly kissed me earlier," Sienna sat up.
"Good to know that you remember it."
Sienna realized that she was once again teased into saying that, "For someone who kept seducing me, and couldn’t succeed, you sure have a lot to say after losing the bet."
Callahan sat up on the bed and leaned back on the headboard, his eyes never leaving her face, "So, you have been paying such close attention to me."
"_"
Sienna was exasperated.
Callahan relished seeing that stifled expression on her face where she was irked but she couldn’t do much about it.
"Losing to you..." he held her hand and placed a small kiss on her knuckle, "will always be a privilege to me."
’Thump’
’Has my sense of romance been twisted? Why does it... sound like the most romantic thing I have ever heard?’ Sienna gulped and pulled her hand out of his grasp.
She passed the bowl of soup to him, "You seem to be feeling better now. Here, have it."
Callahan glanced at the bowl and suddenly frowned.
"What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Callahan glanced at his bandaged hands, "Just a few scratches. I think it’s temporary pain."
The man weakly reached towards the bowl.
"Let me feed you," Sienna pulled the bowl back.
As she blew on a spoonful of hot soup, she missed the twinkle in Callahan’s eyes.
The scene of one person feeding and the other eating in silence was particularly harmonious.
Halfway through the bowl, Sienna paused, "I put some effort into making the soup. A gentleman would at least offer a little taste."
Callahan opened his mouth to speak but Sienna was one step ahead as she sipped on a spoonful of the soup.
In the next second, her face twisted, "Cough... What... Cough cough..."
Callahan rubbed her back slowly.
"It’s too much salt..." Sienna realized she had probably added the salt twice, "How could you drink it quietly? I will go get you something else to eat."
Before she could get up, Callahan held her wrist and moved it closer to him. Then, he wordlessly drank the remaining soup, without a change in his expressions.
Sienna’s jaw dropped.
"I like a little extra salt in my food."
Sir, that was more than ’a little extra’ salt, okay?
Around midnight, Sienna was wide awake on her side of the bed.
Since that one particular night in Magnolia Crest, they hadn’t been keeping a pillow barrier between them. It didn’t seem to have served its purpose anymore.
Sienna tossed and turned for a while. But, then she restrained her movements, afraid of waking Callahan up.
’Maybe I should let the sleeping beauty rest and step out for a while?’ Sienna pondered.
"Can’t sleep?"
Sienna was instantly surprised. She turned to her side.
In the dark, she couldn’t see Callahan’s face, "You were awake this whole time?"
"I slept earlier. What about you?"
"I couldn’t sleep," Sienna sighed.
"Had caffeine?"
His voice, albeit nonchalant, sounded like a subtle reprimand.
Sienna thought about it, "I had some in the morning, around noon..." she trailed off, suddenly realizing something, "Are you the reason Aunty Jane never has coffee?"
Callahan didn’t say anything.
Sienna instantly joined the dots. He probably noticed she had trouble sleeping early on.
She could even visualize the man asking Aunty Jane to cut off caffeine completely and make those various kinds of juice every morning.
She was speechless but at the same time, a smile grew on her face in the dark.
She turned and laid while facing Callahan.
"My sleep doesn’t have much to do with coffee," She explained, "I started drinking coffee because of my poor sleeping habits."
When she was working under her father, there seemed to be a never ending workload.
She couldn’t sleep at night and she still had to work the next day. But at times, she couldn’t keep up. She would either feel dizzy or drowsy in the daytime.
So, somehow, she started relying on coffee to stay active during work hours.
Talking about it, Sienna couldn’t help but sigh, "I know it doesn’t help my sleep but at least, I pull through the day..."
