Chapter 1196: Chapter 626: Extra Story: The Little White Rabbit Angers the Big Bad Wolf 1

Chester Robinson ended with, "If you need anything, just call me," and after saying that, he said nothing more, turned around, and left.

Closing the bedroom door, Alice Robinson pulled the curtains shut.

In the large room, the candle flame flickered, inexplicably casting an eerie feeling.

Alice had always been afraid of the dark; now that she was the only one left, her fear grew even stronger.

She had come here in a hurry and hadn’t brought any luggage; only now did she realize she didn’t even have a change of clothes.

She walked out of the room, went to the one opposite, and knocked urgently.

The door of the room opposite opened, and Chester Robinson’s tall figure appeared in front of her.

Alice was actually knocking so anxiously because she was afraid, but she refused to show her vulnerability in front of him; looking as if nothing was wrong, she said, "Um... I didn’t bring any clothes, and there’s nothing like pajamas in the room."

Chester Robinson turned back into his room and came out shortly with a piece of clothing.

"I only packed a few things. Make do with this; it’s clean."

What Chester Robinson handed Alice was his shirt.

Alice froze for a second.

She was actually very familiar with his shirts; back when she was with him, she often wore them.

"Forget it then..." Alice turned to leave. The person she was now no longer wanted any ambiguity with him.

Chester Robinson caught her and said, "It’s uncomfortable to sleep in dirty clothes... just make do for one night. Tomorrow, when the servants on the island arrive, they’ll bring you clean clothes."

"No need." Alice declined coolly and went straight back to her room.

On the sofa in the shadowy part of the room, Chester Robinson lit a cigarette.

The cigarette slowly burned between his fingers...

Chester Robinson took a drag and exhaled a long stream of smoke. Suddenly, he stubbed out the cigarette and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window.

Through the clear glass he could see the lighthouse on the waters opposite...

It was the only light on the entire sea; the world suddenly seemed so dark and desolate.

There’s no future for us.

A slash of pain crossed his heart; all of a sudden he understood the hurt she’d borne when he had once said those heartless words to her.

He knew better than anyone how stubborn she was...

To win her back wouldn’t be something he could achieve just by trying hard; the most important thing was that her heart still had to be with him.

Was her heart really still with him?

He didn’t know...

He had never imagined that one day he would be this unsure of himself.

Maybe only in front of the person you care about do you lose your judgment and confidence!

Coming down from the second floor, Chester Robinson hadn’t expected to see Alice Robinson curled up in a corner of the sofa, tightly wrapped in a blanket.

Seeing Chester Robinson, Alice immediately straightened up.

Chester Robinson was wearing a robe, his handsome brows slightly furrowed. "Can’t sleep?"

Alice rose from the sofa at once. "I just came downstairs for a glass of water." After saying that, she headed upstairs.

Chester Robinson took her hand and only then realized her palm was slick with sweat.

He moved around in front of her and saw the fine beads of sweat gathering on her forehead; in a soft voice he asked, "Are you scared being alone?"

Alice lowered her head and said nothing.

He knew she was afraid of the dark, so before coming to the island he had already set up this no-electricity mode; but at this moment, seeing her so terrified that she was drenched in sweat, he suddenly felt a sharp ache in his chest.

"Just get through tonight; tomorrow I’ll find a way to get the power on."

Alice nodded, stepped past him, and started up the stairs.

Chester Robinson didn’t let go of her hand; his gentle voice sounded behind her, "Come sleep in my room."

Alice replied without even thinking, "No need."

From the time they got off the plane until now, the words she’d said to him most often were "no need."

"You sleep in the bed; I’ll sleep on the sofa."

Alice suddenly lifted her gaze to look at him.

Under the warm, dim light of the flames, his face was handsome and gentle.

"I won’t do anything to you."

She did trust him, actually, but she didn’t want to give in.

He was still patient as he said, "Just for one night... If I really did anything to you, I don’t think you’d forgive me after sex, and that’s not the outcome I want."

Alice finally hesitated, and Chester Robinson held her hand and led her straight up to the second floor.

In the room, Alice could smell a heavy reek of smoke.

She looked over at Chester Robinson.

She knew he wasn’t a heavy smoker; he only smoked when he was thinking or troubled, and right now there were more than ten cigarette butts lying in the ashtray.

There was no expression on Chester Robinson’s handsome face as he said, "Let’s go to your room; the air’s bad in here."
