Chapter 1177: Chapter 616: Extra Story: Who Can Understand His Heart? (1-2)

Keith Antony watched Chester Robinson’s departing figure, shook his head, and sighed, "Boss, you can deceive yourself, but not your heart. You’ve long realized that you’ve fallen in love with Miss Alice, but Miss Alice has already left the place where she always waited for you."

Leaning against the headboard of the hotel bed, Alice Robinson’s mind was filled with the argument by the poolside with him.

She never expected that he would say those words...

I want you, I want you to come back to my side. I want us to have a brand new beginning, do you believe me?

Those were the words she once dreamt of hearing, never expecting that when they had become strangers, he would personally say them to her.

No matter if he was intimidating her to say such things, those words successfully stirred up many deeply buried memories within her.

Their past, though insignificant in his heart, was deeply etched in hers.

She once loved him so humbly, so pitifully, but he only ever saw her as a family member.

She knew he treated her well, but did he know that she wanted more than just being family?

From the day she chose to leave him in T City, that was the moment she completely excluded him from her life...

She gave up, gave up on loving him so humbly.

Claud Laurence gave her a lot of comfort...

It was Claud Laurence who, after she left T City, pursued her regardless of everything, offered her solace, and was by her side during her times of pain and tears without reservation...

Yes, when she returned to T City, she had moments of pain and tears because back then she still couldn’t truly let go... Deep down she still yearned for him to come and fetch her after healing in T City, or at least, to see her...

But he didn’t; her departure meant nothing to him.

It was his cold indifference that buried the last trace of longing she had for him...

She cut her hair to start anew, realizing that when she chose to start over, the world indeed became much more beautiful.

Life needs to look forward, and she knew that choosing Claud Laurence was a decision she would never regret in her life.

She hoped that she and Claud Laurence could be happy forever...

She called Claud Laurence, but he didn’t answer, leaving Alice feeling a bit down as she put down the phone.

Thinking about how busy she had been with work over the past few days and hadn’t called Rachel, knowing it was the weekend, Alice decided to call home.

Aunt PA answered the phone and passed it to Rachel, "Mommy..."

Hearing her daughter’s sweet call, Alice suddenly felt a pang of sadness, recalling an incident from some time ago.

That day, she came home early from work to personally cook for her daughter, only to see a dejected look on her daughter’s face.

She asked why her daughter was feeling down.

Her daughter replied that other kids at school bullied her, calling her an illegitimate child because her mother was indiscreet.

At that moment, she didn’t know how to respond, not because she was aggrieved or hurt, but because she had imposed her past mistakes on her child, giving her no choice.

Her child was subjected to rumors from the moment she was born, but she had never complained, not even that day, instead, she just hugged Alice for a long time.

She knew her child felt lonely inside because, despite her young age, she already understood what "father" meant. The child knew "father" was a taboo in this family.

Stifling the bitterness in her heart, Alice let out a relaxed smile, "Rachel, Mommy misses you so much! Are you being good at home?"...

In the early morning, Alice, still in a drowsy haze, heard a knock on the door.

She opened her eyes groggily, confirmed someone was knocking, and lazily stretched before getting up.

Adjusting the tie on her robe, she walked towards the door.

She had no idea who it might be, so when she saw the person standing outside, she was first surprised and then elated, "Claud?"

Claud Laurence’s expression was inexplicably somber as he nodded.

Alice was delighted, "What are you doing here?"

Claud didn’t speak, just gazed deeply at Alice.

Alice took Claud’s arm, "What’s wrong with you?"

Looking at the slightly lazy Alice who had just woken up, Claud remained silent, finally walking into the room on his own.

Alice had been holding Claud’s arm, but as he left her side, her hand lingered in the air, and she suddenly realized that today, Claud had emotions.

Alice followed Claud into the room, her expression shifting from earlier excitement to calm.

Claud Laurence sat down on the sofa, crossing his legs, looking at her.

Facing Claud’s dark eyes, Alice felt an inexplicable anxiety in her heart.

Knowing Claud for so long, she had never seen him angry; this was the first time.

Not wanting to remain silent, Alice broke the silence first, "Uh... Didn’t you say you were going to stay in the United Arab Emirates for a month? Why are you back so early?"

Claud Laurence’s gaze visibly darkened, "Didn’t you want me to return sooner?"

Alice shook her head, "Of course not. I just thought you’d be busy for a month... But, what’s the underlying meaning in your words?"

Claud Laurence let out a long sigh, remaining silent.

Alice walked over to him, looking at his expressionless profile, and asked, "What’s wrong?"

Claud took Alice’s hand, making her sit beside him.

Alice was puzzled, not understanding the source of his emotions.

Claud grasped Alice’s hand, asking softly, "When you had trouble in Germany, why didn’t you tell me?"

"You know?"

"Yesterday, when you called, I sensed something was off. I had someone look into your situation here."

Alice lowered her head, "I thought I could handle it myself... I didn’t want to trouble you with everything."

Claud furrowed his brows, "You didn’t want to trouble me, yet you went to ’trouble’ Chester?"

Alice was taken aback, "Claud, what do you mean by that?"

Claud released Alice’s hand, stood up, turning his back to her, "Chester is also in Germany, and you’ve already met several times, but you never mentioned it to me. The most crucial thing is, he helped you with Rodney’s issues."
