Chapter 1585: Chapter 796: The Answer! (Part 2)

Seeing that Lin Beichen already understood, Chen Bing stopped dwelling on it and switched to talking about the situation with the developer.

"We had way fewer people than they did, and in the end we all got caught."

At this point, Chen Bing’s weathered face was flushed red.

Lin Beichen also understood why this kid was feeling so awkward and ashamed.

Turns out they just lost the fight.

There was another thing Lin Beichen hadn’t figured out: this was the first job the new boss had assigned them, and they’d already screwed it up. No wonder Chen Bing was so embarrassed facing Lin Beichen.

"Mm, they caught you guys, so how did you end up here?"

Right, if they had you, did you somehow break out?

Lin Beichen couldn’t quite believe Chen Bing had that kind of skill.

"Did someone rescue you?"

"No, I told them I was with the Wolf Fang Mercenary Corps. As soon as they heard that, they let me go."

Chen Bing had actually planned to say he was with the Phoenix Mercenary Corps; after all, the Phoenix Mercenary Corps is pretty famous in Freedom City, while the Wolf Fang Mercenary Corps has just come to Freedom City, so it’s normal people wouldn’t know them.

So when he said he was Phoenix Mercenary Corps, the other side just sneered, "So what if you’re Phoenix Mercenary Corps? I keep you here, your Phoenix Mercenary Corps boss probably won’t even dare come."

But when he said the Phoenix Mercenary Corps had changed bosses, that now they were under the Wolf Fang Mercenary Corps, which made them Wolf Fang Mercenaries, the guy in the lead actually froze for a second.

Then he did something that struck Chen Bing as strange—he let him go.

But he didn’t release the others, and even told him, "I know your Wolf Fang Mercenary Corps boss is named Lin Beichen, right?"

Chen Bing was stunned on the spot, and then the man said, "Go back and tell your boss Lin Beichen to come, and I’ll let the rest of your people go. Otherwise, get ready to collect their corpses."

At this point, Chen Bing stopped talking.

Lin Beichen also knew that after that, Chen Bing had just run back.

Right now Lin Beichen had some doubts in his heart. This guy actually knew the Wolf Fang Mercenary Corps, and knew him.

Who the hell was this guy?

And he insisted on Lin Beichen personally coming to see him before he’d release their people—what was the angle?

But Lin Beichen knew that no matter how hard he racked his brains here, he wouldn’t figure it out.

Since the other side wanted him to come, then he’d go take a look. Once he got there he’d know what the guy was up to. What he could be sure of was that the other side was hostile to him.

Otherwise they wouldn’t be holding his people and demanding he come to them, instead of coming with his people to the base to see him.

As for whether this was some kind of trap, an ambush for him, something dangerous—

Lin Beichen felt that in the face of his absolute strength, any schemes were pointless. One punch and he’d blow them apart.

"Brother Lin, they also said if they don’t see you within twenty-four hours, they’ll kill Zou Cha and the others."

Chen Bing lowered his head, feeling like he’d dumped a ton of trouble and danger on Lin Beichen this time. "Brother Lin, let’s bring more people to rescue Zou Cha."

But if he had to just stand there and watch Zou Cha get killed, Chen Bing couldn’t stomach it. After all, he’d clearly gone there to protect her.

Lin Beichen nodded. "Mm, we’re heading out now."

Then he saw how downcast Chen Bing was and added, "Captain Chen, this isn’t on you. If it were anyone else, it probably would’ve gone the same way. Don’t beat yourself up too much."

Hearing Lin Beichen’s reassurance, Chen Bing finally felt a bit better. "Mm, Brother Lin, you have to take me on this operation."

"What’re you talking about?"

"Of course I’m taking you. Otherwise who the hell knows where those people are?"

Hearing that, Chen Bing realized that was indeed the case, and scratched his head awkwardly. "Brother Lin, you’re right. Heh heh."

After that, Lin Beichen had his men go notify Tyson, Zhao Ligeng, and Li Kui. Once the three of them arrived, the five of them left the base and headed toward Freedom City.

That’s right, you heard it right—just five people.

It wasn’t until they’d been driving away from the base for quite a while that Chen Bing finally processed it: Brother Lin really was only bringing five people. He suddenly felt confused, looked at Lin Beichen sitting in the passenger seat, and asked, "Brother Lin, they’ve got over fifty guys. I couldn’t beat them even with more than twenty the first time, and now we’re only going with five?"

Sure, Chen Bing knew Lin Beichen and Tyson were both badass fighters, but with fifty guys split up, that’s ten per person, and even if those two could each take ten, he, Chen Bing, sure as hell couldn’t...

On the way, Lin Beichen had already briefly explained what had happened to Li Kui, Tyson, and Zhao Ligeng.

So naturally, they knew what Chen Bing was talking about.

But as soon as Chen Bing finished, Tyson was the first to get annoyed. He shouted arrogantly, "Only fifty-something?"

"That’s not even enough for me to clean up by myself!"

Li Kui didn’t bother arguing whether Tyson was serious or not.

He followed up, "I’m definitely not as good a fighter as Tyson, but taking ten isn’t a problem."

Seeing the two of them being that dead serious, like handling ten guys per person was standard Wolf Fang Mercenary Corps level, Chen Bing was left speechless.

But since Lin Beichen hadn’t said anything, Chen Bing didn’t ask more, secretly wondering if Lin Beichen had some hidden backup or trump card.

Anyway, he wasn’t the one in charge. If anything went wrong, he wouldn’t be the one bearing the responsibility. He’d already told Brother Lin everything he needed to.

Thinking that, Chen Bing stopped obsessing over it.

Soon, with Chen Bing leading the way, the five of them arrived in the eastern part of Freedom City.

The developer was based here.

After getting out of the car, Chen Bing kept leading them forward. When they walked into a big alley, a group of people suddenly appeared ahead.

Every one of them looked vicious as hell, all holding melee weapons—steel pipes, knives, baseball bats, all kinds of nasty hardware.

One look and you knew they weren’t good people.

The guy in the lead even had a katana in his hand. He rested it on his shoulder and strolled toward Lin Beichen and the others.

Looked like he was trying to put on a show of force and scare Lin Beichen’s group.

But he realized the scene he’d imagined wasn’t happening. The other side was still perfectly calm, which left him a bit puzzled.

He figured they were just pretending to be tough. Once he beat them into the ground, he’d see if their faces stayed that calm.

As they walked over, Chen Bing leaned toward Lin Beichen’s ear and whispered, "These are the guys who took Zou Cha and the others."

Lin Beichen nodded and looked at the leader, asking, "You know me?"

"Why’d you call me out by name, asking for Lin Beichen to come?"

If he didn’t want to clear some things up, since these guys dared lay hands on his people, he wouldn’t be talking at all—he’d just put them down first and ask questions later.

"Course I know you."

The guy in front had his hair dyed bright red. Seeing Lin Beichen show up with only four others, and seeing that he’d already surrounded them, he instantly got cocky.

"You once took out the top people in the Milo Family and the Beishi Mercenary Corps by yourself—who doesn’t know that?"

Lin Beichen knew that in the Golden Triangle, plenty of people had heard the Milo Family and Beishi Mercenary Corps higher-ups were all dead, but they definitely didn’t know who did it.

Seeing Lin Beichen stay quiet like he was thinking, the guy kept talking to himself, wanting to say more, but Li Kui cut him off.

Li Kui cursed, "You dumb fuck, you don’t recognize your Brother Li?"

"I was there on that Beishi Mercenary Corps job too."

The red-haired guy clearly knew a fair bit of inside info. He sneered, "Haha, you’ve got the nerve to say that? Yeah, you were there—but you were just there to make up the numbers."

Li Kui was so pissed he was speechless, but what the guy said was kind of true. He hadn’t expected someone out here to know what went down back then.

So he kept cursing, "Bullshit your mother’s ass. How the hell do you prove I was just making up the numbers?"

"You weren’t there at the time. If you had been, you wouldn’t be standing here now." Li Kui chuckled darkly as he said it.
